[Neoprene] I have used this lens for bird and waterfowl photography. I have been amazed with the quality of my images..tack sharp. You do have to be careful and watch for vibrations. Perhaps a little on the heavy side but that's something I can live with. A ltlle pricey too!

[Neoprene] I have only had this lens for 10 days and I am amazed at how this lens tracks birds so well. It was not hard to find the birds through the lens and then keep them in view, shots were very sharp. I also took pictures of whales from quite a ways away and the pictures were so good I didn't even have to fix them in Lightroom. Even with the wind blowing about 25 MPH this lens was still tack sharp while on my tripod. I really can't name anything about this lens that is not great. It is just a little bit heavier than my 400 f/2.8 so you can take some shots while just holding it. Where the 400 f/2.8 did not reach far enough for me, the 800 f/5.6 takes care of those long shots. I didn't have any problems with it being a f/5.6 instead of f/2.8. I would highly recommend this lens!

[Neoprene] Good way to protect the lens and barrel from minor dings and bumps. Looks good too. Takes a little time to work the pieces onto the lens barrel and get into position, but looks good and stays in place.

[Neoprene] We use the lens mainly for bird photography. We are still learning how to use this lens. The issue we have is how to take tack sharp images at a higher rate. Huge magnification comes with this lens, but a cost of easy vibration. Any tiny vibration from the camera, the tripod and your hands would be magnified enormously. Thus blurry image results. You would think the image is sharp, but not until you blow it up 100% on your screen to find out it is not tack sharp. If the image is blurry, it is operator's error. When the image is tack sharp, the detail is just out of this world. I shoot raw and there is no in-camera adjustments for color, sharpness, and so forth. In its raw format, the image is incredibly sharp, extremely detailed, and its color rich and vibrant. What can I say? One of the excellent super telephoto lens that Canon has ever made so far. I even go so far as to say it is the sharpest super telephone lens that Canon makes.

[Neoprene] I finally managed to purchase this lens after 28 years of wanting a big glass. I looked at many different lens's some much less expensive and decided to go for this big gun.
So far i found that the clarity and use is top notch. My photos have gone from OK to WOW! I mainly shoot wildlife and this lens lets me get those close shots that are National Geo quality without harassing the animal! I really love that as I can shoot them in more natural positions and they stay put for more opportunities for that just right position.
Heavy? 9.9lbs,plus the tripod and lens mount does push down on my shoulder, but it's relevant. I can carry it for miles and only complain a little about a sore shoulder the next day. I'll get some more padding to relieve that situation.
Over all I have finally got my hands on the best lens out there! Love it!

[Neoprene] I have been taking wild life photos for 30 years with canon lenses and the new 800 is a great improvment over the old FD 800 , if the picture is a thousand word it speeks for it self

[Neoprene] Used it the other day on my lens while using the wire on a fence to stabilize better. Had no fear of acquiring any scratches

[Neoprene] Cover fits like a glove. All sections fit tight and take some effort to get in place. But this means the cover is not going anywhere. Sections are available for the entire lens, but I chose to leave the focus and control ring uncovered. I just prefer the feel of the actual lens. Would recommend this for anyone who want some extra protection for their lens.
