Get started in the world of wide-angle macro photography with the Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for full-frame Leica L-mount cameras from Venus Optics. Before now, wide-angle macro required the use of extension tubes and other workarounds, but now the Laowa 15mm Macro offers true 1:1 magnification without the hassle. The ultra-wide perspective on full-frame cameras allows you to get exceptionally close to your subjects and have them fill the frame with a minimum focus distance of just 4.7", while still capturing the background for more informative scenes. Internal focusing further assists by not disturbing your subject, even when you reach the 0.2" minimum working distance.

Optically, it is designed to minimize distortion that plagues wide-angle lenses with the use of an advanced 12 element in nine groups construction with one extra-low dispersion and three high-refractive elements. A multilayer low-reflective coating further improves image quality by reducing the appearance of flare and ghosting. Also, when used on APS-C cameras or in crop modes the lens offers +/- 6mm of vertical shift which can help correct for perspective when shooting objects such as buildings.

Full manual operation is required with this lens through the use of a physical aperture ring with a range of f/4 to f/32 and a large focusing ring. The lens has a flat front element with a 77mm front filter thread for using a selection of specialized filters to enhance your scene. It also has a near circular 14-blade diaphragm for smooth out of focus elements and comes with a lens hood.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is this lens compatible with the canon 6D?

A: Man this is an EF lens, it is compatible with the 6D

Q: 2. At infinity focus, how far out from the bayonet does the rear element extend? Or more to the point, has anyone tried to use this lens in K mount at infinity on a Canon full frame dslr? Any trouble with the Canon's mirror hitting the rear element?I'm hoping I can buy this lens in PK mount and use it on both a Pentax dslr and a Canon 5D. Since this lens has a manual aperture, there's no auto aperture lever extending from the bayonet which would hit the 5D's mirror. So, in theory, I should be able to use this lens in K mount on a Canon 5D just by using a simple PK to Canon adapter.Unless the rear element / housing extends too far out from the bayonet. Anyone know?

A: My lens is a Nikon mount so I don't know how helpful this will be.At infinity focus, the rear element's barrel back face projects approximately 3.5 mm beyond the rearmost surface of the Nikon mounting flange

Q: 3. Does the optic of this lens support for 50 Pixels camera (Ex. Canon 5ds/5ds r)?

A: It covers 24x36 with a couple of mm of movement. It's sharper than I expected, but not the 80+ line pairs per mm needed by a 50MP sensor to be critically sharp. Mind, there aren't many lenses that are.

Q: 4. Is this Len comp with Nikon d5100,7100&7200 cameras ?

A: yes, but it is all manual

Q: 5. In 4k60 on the s5iix (BH #PADCS5M2) , i think there is a 1.5x-ish crop. Would this lens be ~ 22-24mm focallength @4k60crop?

A: That is correct. Using the Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Leica L on the Panasonic S5ii X in 4k 60 will crop 1.5 times. And the lens will be like a 22.5mm lens.

Q: 6. How is this lens in terms of COMA aberation? Has anyone tried this lens for night landscapes, where a close in foreground object is combined with a sky full of stars. Are the stars sharp to the edge, or do they start to look like birds in flight?

A: I'm sorry but I haven't done the type of photography that the asker is interested in.

Q: 7. Where is this made? Japan or China?

A: As per our records, this lens is manufactured in China. Please note that this is subject to change at any time.

Q: 8. Can you mount a canon macro twinlite flash on the lens?

A: Yes, with the Canon macrolite adapter and a step up ring, you attach the twin lite. You may get vignetting but can be cropped out in post. Click the links below to view the parts needed; https://bhpho.to/2BpDqgT https://bhpho.to/2BTRJKu

Q: 9. I see the complaints about tilt shift and macro being problematic on full frame. I’m considering this for landscapes and wouldn’t bother with TS... would it work well? Decent image quality? I’d use on an a7 iii, don’t care that it’s manual focus

A: You will be very happy with the Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens on your full frame A7R III. The lens is very sharp, well made, and features a 3 year warranty.

Q: 10. Will I still get 15mm wide angle when used on a full frame Sony A7riv?

A: Yes Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Sony E is a full frame lens so the it will be 15mm on the Sony A7riv.

[77 mm (Front)] I didn't think I would like it the first 2 hours and had planned to return it. I'm glad I didn't . I love this lens

[14] Brings back the days when every shot had to be hand-focused ... many young photographers reject manual lenses out of hand, but I regard autofocus as a frill. The lens itself is great ... very sharp, minimal distortion, and you can add filters, which is unusual for 15mm glass. And compared to virtually every other lens made for the Nikon Z series so far, it's affordable! Highly recommended.

[15mm] Disclaimer: I am not a pixel peeper. New to the A7iii scene, I was not sure how to activate the Focus Magnifier, so my first few test shot was just trying to focus using the LCD screen, and focus peaking. No matter, the picture came out sharp (to my satisfaction) anyway. Then I found out the nearest focus distance was crazily short, so I started taking close-up shots of flowers, those came up sharp too! (The Ultra-wide angle helped to keep everything sharp). By the time I discovered how to set Focus magnifier on the A7iii, I was already sold. This thing is a keeper. Did I mention it perform quite well in low light too? Can't wait to use this for astro-photography. How much more versatile can one lens be? (Con? No EXIF. If that doesn't bother you, grab one!)

[77 mm (Front)] I purchased this lens to replace my Sony 12-24 f/4 because that lens was just not quite fast enough for my needs which generally includes a lot of night photography. The lens has acceptable levels of coma, which is really important to me. It is also very easy to use and handle. Lastly, I really appreciate the super close minimum focus distance for grand scenic landscapes where you want to include something very close to to the lens in the foreground (like flowers). All-in-all, this lens is a great choice for Sony full-frame users.

[1x] I wasn't crazy about the price, but once I put it on my a7s, I was very happy. Sharp. Minimal distortion. And though I keep seeing people say it doesn't matter on a wide angle lens, the bokeh is gorgeous. Oh and a UWA with a 72mm filter thread...awesome!

This is going to replace my 14mm Bower that I've flown FOREVER. I gave the 16-35's a quick look, but they seem even more over priced. Plus there's always something special about a prime. I recommend. Happy shooting!

[110°] I was a bit skeptical when I ordered this lens. But it has been a very pleasant surprise. It is very sharp. It is totally manual, which is fine since this goes back to my early days shooting, 60 years ago. It is not pre-set either. I am very please with it across the board.

[1x] I primarily shoot still life product in studio and wanted something that offered a different perspective than the typical 100mm macro. The lens, when used in a macro setting, can be difficult to get good looking images, but if you take the time to compose and light properly, you can achieve really interesting sizes and angles The build of the lens is very solid and for the price, it's definitely something fun to use.
