The SGM-250H Shotgun Microphone from Azden is a durable, high-performance mic designed for indie film and TV location recording. With a hypercardioid electret capsule, and an extra-long interference tube, the SGM-250H can deliver ultralow noise and a highly directional pickup pattern that rejects a significant amount of extraneous noise from the sides, while maintaining true-to-life quality sound.

A switchable high-pass filter at 75 Hz provides a convenient method of mitigating low-frequency noise, and the enclosure is made of a rugged aluminum and brass alloy for durability and excellent RF interference protection. The frequency response is wide and flat with a slight bump in the midrange for capturing the nuances of speech without sacrificing quality. A low signal-to-noise ratio and gold-plated XLR connectors ensure a clean, natural sounding signal with minimal obstructive noise. Ideal for filmmakers and video content creators alike, the SGM-250H is a workhorse shotgun mic that can excel in a wide range of shooting scenarios.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will the 250p work with xlr to mini on GH5s if you select phantom mode on camera...and does it reduce battery life noticeably?

A: There is no way to send phantom power from a camera's mini-jack mic input, since it is an unbalanced connection. So the SGM-250P will not work if converted to mini-plug on any camera. For this you will need a microphone that is self-powered. Our SGM-250 model shotgun microphone can run off a AA battery and could be adapted to a mini input if desired. However, for better results, we'd recommend the SMX-15 microphone for unbalanced, mini-jack connections. The SMX-15 also has a built in gain booster circuit to help over come the noise that is usually inherent in the poorer quality mic preamps that are built into most mirrorless and DSLR cameras.

Q: 2. Will this connect to a Rode RODELink Newsshooter Kit?

A: Yes, the SGM-250 should work well with any XLR plug-in wireless transmitter.

Q: 3. Will this mount onto the tilta cage for the bmpcc 4k?

A: This shotgun mic will mount into the shoe on the top of the Tilta Camera Cage for Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K/6K (Basic Kit, Tilta Gray), BH #TITAT01BG.

Q: 4. What does the CX suffix stand for? Camera XLR?

A: While the manufacturer does not specify, we believe it refers to Cabled XLR.

Q: 5. Is there an extension cable so I could use this as a boom-pole mounted mic with my C70? I already bought this mic from BH, but need a cable solution...

A: Unfortunately we no longer offer TA3 extension cables to accommodate that length at this time.

Q: 6. The specs indicate the operating voltage to be 11 - 50 volts. When I use this Azden mic with the Xvive U3C Wireless transmiiter, may I keep the transmitter phantom power voltage switch at 12 v instead of 48 v so I may get 7 hours battery power usage out of the transmitter as opposed to 5 hours usage using the 48 v setting?

A: Yes that is exactly what you should do.

Q: 7. Does this mic need phantom power?

A: Yes it does, which you have to turn on from the audio settings on the BMPCC.

Q: 8. shoud i buy the shockmount seperately or it will be provided in the 199 dollar pack ?

A: The Azden SGM-250MX Shotgun Microphone comes with Azden's SMH-X Universal Shockmount for Camera Shoes and Boompoles.

Q: 9. HOW TO INSTALL THIS MIC ON bmpcc 4k, should I buy anything additional?

A: Install on bmpcc a cold shoe B&H # SM1241 or PEAMF1420 to mount mic. This mic has a Mini XLR provided: Azden SGM-250MX Mini-XLR Short Shotgun Microphone for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema (Shockmount, Phantom Only) and the bmpcc has a mini xlr connection: Audio Connectors 1 x Mini XLR Mic/Line Level (+48 V Phantom Power) Input 1 x 1/8" / 3.5 mm Stereo Mic/Line Level Input 1 x 1/8" / 3.5 mm Stereo Headphone Output

Q: 10. Hello, what kind of shoe mount is needed to mount this to the BMPCC4k?

A: I used one from small rig. Works great and hasn’t ever been taken off since I added on. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1421793-REG/smallrig_1241_cold_shoe.html

[Phantom Power] Needed a mic for short videos of actors for their demo reels. Tried basic mics but to have them out of frame they needed to be three feet from the actor and at that distance the sound was poor. Then tried lavaliere mics, but only the very high end (expensive) mics picked up the vocal range needed. Went to B&H and tried-out some shotgun mics in their soundproof mic room. With the help of a very knowledgeable salesperson I picked the Azden. The actors and their agents are happy with the sound, and the price didn't break the bank. Very satisfied.

[Hypercardioid] I've had this mic for a year now, and use it for producing my YT channel. It's an amazing mic not only for the money, but just an amazing mic period. I even did an episode called "Audio Impossible", that illustrated how even in my somewhat noisy environment I was able to isolate my vocals with the help of this awesome mic.

[Hypercardioid] This has been the best shotgun mic I have used thus far. I have used several ranging from $50 - $250. I used this particular mic outside with the foam windscreen that came with it. The sound of my talent came out clean and blocked a lot of distracting noises. I still had other noises bleed through onto the audio track, like cars 15 - 25 feet away, but they were not overpowering or distracting. The audio was clean. I was recording directly to a Zoom H4n Pro.
