The standard wide field of view is useful for a broad array of subject types, including landscape, street, and reportage shooting, and the f/2 maximum aperture excels in challenging lighting and enables greater control over depth of field. In terms of the optical design, three aspherical elements and one SLD element are used to minimize a variety of aberrations and distortion for sharp and accurate rendering. Also, a Super Multi-Layer Coating helps to control ghosting and flare for improved color fidelity and contrast.

In regard to handling and focus, this lens features a stepping motor for quick and quiet AF performance that suits both photo and video applications. As part of the Contemporary line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance between convenience and performance, and meshes a compact, lightweight build and versatile handling with notable optical attributes.

I Series lens emphasizes a sleek and stylish physical design that is built to the same operational standards of Sigma's Cine lenses, including a mechanical aperture ring, knurled metal components, and various switches and tactile controls for intuitive operation.

Wide-angle 35mm lens is designed for full-frame Leica L-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/2 maximum aperture strikes and ideal balance between speed and size and manages to maintain a compact physical profile while also offering low-light performance and depth of field control.

One Special Low Dispersion (SLD) element markedly reduces chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color accuracy.

Three aspherical elements help to control distortion and spherical aberrations for a high degree of sharpness and accurate rendering.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

Integrated stepping motor realizes smooth and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an internal focusing design to promote greater responsiveness.

Manual aperture ring includes an 'A' position for camera-based aperture selection.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity and rubber sealing is incorporated in the mount's design to render it dust- and splash-resistant.

Included LCF58-01M magnetic lens cap attaches directly to the front of the lens and is compatible with the optional CH-11 Lens Cap Holder.

This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma UD-11 USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. where is this lens made?

A: The Sigma 90mm lens is made in Japan.

Q: 2. Is the aperture ring clicky?

A: Yes, the Sigma 65mm f/2 DG DN contemporary lens features a gear-like, 1/3-stop clicked aperture ring that enables a manually-selected aperture.

Q: 3. Which one is better for every day use (different genres), this one or 45mm 2.8?

A: I apologize in advance for the vague answer, but "better" will very much depend on the kind of photographs you make and the kind of compositions you enjoy. Typically, 35mm/40mm are seen as more "traditional" for street photography, but the 45mm might offer you tighter, slightly more intimate perspectives during everyday shooting. Truthfully, there isn't a significant difference between them, and you should be able to enjoy making photographs with either!

Q: 4. Can this lens be used on a Sony Nex6 without using a adapter?

A: Being that the Sigma 65mm f/2 DG DN uses the Sony E mount, it can work with the Sony NEX-6.

Q: 5. When will this be available for Canon 5D MKIV? Also, can I do macro shots with it?

A: Thank you for your interest in Sigma products. This lens is only available for Sony E and L mount mirrorless cameras. Please look at the Sigma 105mm for Canon https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/806377-REG/Sigma_258101_105mm_f_2_8_EX_DG.html?sts=pi&pim=Y or Sigma 70mm F2.8 for Canon https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1393480-REG/sigma_70mm_f_2_8_dg_macro.html?sts=pi&pim=Y. Both lenses are compatible with your Canon 5D camera

Q: 6. How would this lens do for making night sky time lapse. Will stars be sharp of have purple fringing?

A: The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Lens for Sony E is excellent for astrophotography, if you stop down to f/2.8. Purple fringing shouldn't be a major issue.

Q: 7. Would this fit a Sony a6400

A: Yes the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Lens for Sony E will fir on the Sony A6400.

Q: 8. Does fit for Fuji X body mount to use ?

A: Sigma produces the Sigma 65mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens with a Leica L and Sony E mount. Unfortunately, they do not make this lens with a Fuji X mount.

Q: 9. How well does the Autofocus work with Sony a7 cameras?

A: The Sigma 90mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary Lens for Sony E is a sharp lens and the Autofus is compatible and good with the A7.

Q: 10. Can autofocus on this lens be turned on and off from the camera body? Thanks.

A: If the camera you own has the ability to turn the autofocus feature on and off via the camera's menu, then yes, it can be done from either the camera body via the menu or via the AF/MF switch on the lens. When you disable the autofocus either via the camera's menu or directly on the lens, you would enable the fine focus ring function for manual focus usage needs.

[L-Mount] Excellent build quality. Excellent image quality. Sharp wide open. Gorgeous bokeh. Reasonable size. I only wish Sigma had the focus hold button on all their E-mount lenses. This one, unfortunately, lacks it. I am also enjoying this focal length. I recently moved away from 28-35-50 to 24-40-65 and I'm loving the new trio, as I'm finding the wider spread more versatile.

[Full-Frame] Just what I needed for dual camera video interviews. Just the right focal length and wide aperture.

[L-Mount] What I have come to expect from Sigma. The i series lie somewhere between the Art and the Contemporary lenses. Dollar for dollar I don't think I could find a better lens for the money. Also, great service from B & H

[Autofocus] 65mm f2? Who uses something with those specifications? What use could you have with this lens? What kind of situation does it benefit? The answers to these questions are easy and surprising. This focal length combined with the f2 aperture allows for great subject separation, bokeh and yet it is still wide enough that other details are not lost to depth of field. I could easily say this lens helps to tell a great story because 65mm is wide enough to show what is going on in a photo, yet highlight what is important at the same time. I like it more than the classic 50mm because of the subject separation. I find it more practical than an 85mm because it doesn't feel as limiting in my hands. The build quality is fantastic and the size is just about right on my Panasonic s1. It really feels natural when I'm using it on a photo shoot. If you want to do portrait photography and don't want to spend a large amount of money, then this lens is absolutely made for you. If you do a bit of journalistic photography, then this lens should be in your bag. The image quality and performance of this lens is by far the best of all the i-series lenses. I love what I am able to capture with this all metal 65mm beauty. I don't really have any complaints about this lens for photography. It is simply wonderful. I also do video work as well and this is where the 65mm shows a weakness. It really needs a de-clickable aperture and faster speeds than f2 to produce what I would like from this focal length. The Panasonic 50mm would be a better choice, but at a very significant price difference. Overall this lens is fantastic for anyone who loves photography and I would highly recommend it. Video quality is also top notch, but physical limitations hinder the ease of use. This lens is by far one of the best lenses on the market. It shouldn't be overlooked because of the odd focal length and lower price point.

PS Sigma! Please make a 135mm f2.0 or 2.8 I series lens!

[9, Rounded] I was using the Sony 55mm lens and though it is a great lens and very sharp, it is becoming a little bit dated. I actually prefer the Sigma lens more. True the Sony is a faster lens, but for my uses, the f2 on the sigma works just fine. Plus, I love how compact it is. My small traveling kit is now the Sony 20mm f/1.8 G lens, the Sigma 65mm and the Sigma 90mm. Very small and excellent quality. Use them on my Sony a 7riii.

[58 mm (Front)] Excellent build quality. Superb sharpness. Good colour. While it may seem an odd focal length to some, I've grown to love the slightly tighter 'normal' view. Better-feeling manual focus than many, and the aperture ring feels just right. No issues with AF. I pair it with the Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN for general photo walks.

[58 mm (Front)] I'm impressed. A lightweight 65mm lens with remarkable sharpness and ease of use. 65mm is the street photography lens of the pandemic, allowing you to get close without getting close. This is a very workable focal length. I have found 90mm and 75mm too limiting, given that I usually shoot with a 35mm lens. Sigma is producing some excellent lenses for the Leica SL and L mount cameras. I think that this lens plus the 35mm Leica SL would make an excellent urban travel kit. Recommended. I have attached some walking around the neighborhood photos that illustrate its quality.

[L-Mount] Something less than a 85 but more than 50
Sharp with beautiful bokeh at the wide end
Spends more and more of its time on the camera

[35mm] I am having a blast with this lens as my walk around lens for the Leica CL. With the crop sensor, it's just under a 100mm full frame equivalent. It's sharp with great color (I'm sure Leica has a lot to do with the great color though). Plus I'm so glad to have a physical iris ring for once. I hope they make a 28mm f/2 soon, the 35 is too normal on my CL and the 24, at 3.5, I'm not as excited about. Please, Sigma, f/2? not 2.8, I'm willing to pay a little more for the 2.
