Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it come with a windscreen?

A: Yes, it comes with a foam windscreen that is effective in breezes up to about 7 mph.

Q: 2. Is the LED red only? Does the light on indicate that the mic is muted, or that the mic is on?

A: Yes, the LED status indicator light on the Audio-Technica AT8699R Microphone Desk Stand is red. The LED illuminates to indicate when the switch for the microphone (sold separately) is active so when the mic is on the LED is red. The switch can be set to any of its three operating modes which are "touch-on/touch-off," "touch-to-talk," and "touch-to-mute."

Q: 3. This mic looks like it has to be mounted in a vertical position to get proper L/R sound, correct? i.e., if I was to mount it from a left or right-facing cold shoe mount, I'd be recording an up/down stereo image, correct? Basically, can the mic be rotated in its shock mount, or no?

A: Hello to achieve a proper recording the mic must sit pointing forward and horizontal in the shoe mount. Any other configuration will not be conducive to a natural reproduction of the sound recording. Also it's extremely important to use the windscreen outside and to set proper volume recording levels in the camera. Best,MG

Q: 4. I'm looking to shoot two or three people in one shot, with the boom overhead on a stand. Mostly indoors. Would this mic capture everyone's dialogue if there is no boom operator to move to the speaker?

A: A shotgun mic should be used to pick up dialog from one person, or professional sounding audio. If you use it to pick up two people, the sound will become thin. I would suggest using a boom person, or setting up two mics in a stereo configuration.

Q: 5. I'm encountering A LOT of fuzz in the background when recording with this straight into my 5dMKii does anyone have a solution?

A: There can definitely be issues with connecting to the MK II's directly. In the long term, look into an external recorder. For now maybe search around for solutions for the exact model of your firmware/camera and external mics. Might be interference from bad hardware.

Q: 6. I’m shooting a film on an iphone. Is there a way to connect this mic with the phone?

A: The Saramonic LC-XLR Female XLR to Lightning Microphone Adapter Cable for iOS Devices (B&H # SALCXLR) can be used to connect the AT897 to your iPhone You will need to use a battery to power the mic since the iPhone can not supply phantom power. The other options for cables are the Saramonic SR-XLR35 XLR Female to 3.5mm TRRS Microphone Cable for DSLR Cameras and Smartphones (B&H # SASRXLR35) combined with the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter (B&H # APLAADAP). The MXL Female XLR to 3.5mm Male TRRS and 3.5mm Female TRS Multimedia Adapter Cable for Select Dynamic Microphones (B&H # MXMMCABLE) provides a 3.5mm TRS headphone tap which allows you to monitor the sound while recording. This cable can also be combined with the Apple Lightning adapter for use with an iPhone.

Q: 7. Does this mic work with plug-in power or strictly by battery?

A: The Audio-Technica ATR6250 is powered strictly by AA battery.

Q: 8. Would this be good for capturing ambient sound for weddings on my C100?

A: Yes it would be ideal for that.

Q: 9. Can I use line level signal on the AT897?

A: It only has an XLR out, so it will be a mic level output. It does have a spot where you can put a battery in, if you do not have phantom power in your recorder though.

Q: 10. Does the 1/8" connection also provide phantom power? Or is it only through the XLR cable?

A: When using the Audio-Technica AT8022 X/Y Stereo Phantom and Battery Powered Field Microphone with its XLR to 3.5mm TRS output cable, the microphone will not receive phantom power from the corresponding 3.5mm input connection. When used with this connection the AT8022 should be powered from its AA battery compartment.

[Beige] This X-Connector does what it's supposed to do. Thanks Point Source Audio for this connector, we went from Shure body packs to Sennheiser body packs. This is also good for taking your microphone to other venues and plug into other systems with the different X-Connectors for different brand wireless systems. I do wish there wasn't a chance to over tighten but Point Source Audio does warn on the connector to not over tighten.

[Omnidirectional] I bought this mic for my new Senn G3 wireless bodypack. I filmed an exercise video and the talent forgot they were even wearing it and I think it sounded great for the price. I was very happy with the size too...it is small and not very noticeable. .... It can only be used for the left ear as indicated.

[Plug-In Power] We have only used this once, but our congregation definitely noticed the difference. Everything was projected clearly with no noticeable distortion. Small enough to be inocuous, and not uncomfortable. The only concern that we have is if someone borrows it and unknowingly tries to bend the boom; not sure how adversely it may be affected.

[Omnidirectional] I had never even heard of the brand before seeing them on the B&H site. I gambled and purchased 3 of them for an event that was 5 days away. I received them 2 days before the event so I had them for dress rehearsal and the event itself. The mics worked flawlessly and performed better than some mics that I have that are double the price of these! Awesome first impression of Point Source mics!! These make me want to try some of those ultra flexible CO-7s. :)

[Plug-In Power] Great headset mic. Sounds amazing! Very easy to adjust to each presenter. Get tons of compliments from presenters on how they normally don't like headsets but this one was nice. Definitely my go to headset from now on!

[Beige] In our churches services. Fits the speakers well. I wish it were made more durable so as not to develop breaks in the wires.

[Plug-In Power] This mic will be used by the pastor in a sanctuary--who moves around--and appreciates the omnidirectional capability.

[Beige] We have tried several different headsets like Countryman and THOR. This one beats them all! My pastor has some “wonky” frequencies in his voice that generate feedback in the mids. This one solved most of those issues without sacrificing the quality. The construction is beefy. No more bending the delicate wire to mold it to his face. Right out of the box, this fit like a glove and sounds amazing. I can’t recommend it enough.
