This Hoya 82mm Mist Diffuser Black No. 0.5 Filterfrom Hoya 82mm Mist Diffuser Black No. 0.5 Filterdiffuses light sources to create a soft glowing effect around highlights. It reduces overall contrast, but especially in the shadows, and helps to create a cinematic look and film feel in still images and video. The effect is an increase in halation or "blooming" of highlights and specular light sources, plus a reduction in contrast, wrinkles, and skin blemishes for a softer, more romantic look. The effect of the Mist Diffuser Black No. 0.5 is similar to filters rated 1/8 when compared to cinematic mist filters.

The cinematic mist effect is created by equally distributing a fine black nano powder between two layers of optical glass then bonding them together. This filter is made of optical glass to retain image detail, but the glass is not multicoated to provide enhanced flares. The slim aluminum frame can be used on wide angle lenses without vignetting.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are Hoya 82mm diopters compatible with Sirui 1.6x Full-Frame Anamorphic Lenses?

A: The Sirui 35mm T2.9 1.6x Full-Frame Anamorphic Lens (Sony E) does accept 82mm filters so the Hoya 82mm HMC Close-Up Filter Set II (+1, +2, and +4) will fit it.

Q: 2. I have a 67mm threaded Kit lens currently, but use 82mm filters with a step up ring, so when I get my new 82mm lenses, I don’t have to repurchase. Would 82mm close up lenses work on my 67mm with the step up ring?

A: Yes, they will work.

Q: 3. Would this be ideal for someone recording nighttime conerts with lots of artificial lights at night time?

A: I would not recommend using any filter for night time concerts. The Red Enhancer filter is made to enhance fall foliage.

Q: 4. Do these filters have a thread on the front for using a cap?

A: Yes, they are threaded the cap will work

Q: 5. The hood of the Canon RF 70-200 no longer fits. Is there a hood that will fit over the filter?

A: The outer diameter of the PolarPro 77mm Peter McKinnon Mist Edition II VND ND4 to ND32 Filter (2 to 5-Stop) is 90mm; therefore, you will not be able to connect the Canon ET-83FW III Lens Hood on the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens. Unfortunately, the filter is not designed with front threads to connect clips on or thread in lens hoods.

Q: 6. Is this one achromatic?

A: The Hoya 82mm HMC Close-Up Filter Set II (+1, +2, and +4) (B&H# HOCUS2MC82) features lenses that are made of optical glass with anti-reflection coatings to improve clarity, light transmission, and to reduce reflections and ghosting. As such, they offer good image quality even if they're not specifically claimed to be achromatic, which is indeed the case. If that's a major concern then you may want to opt for a macro lens.

Q: 7. What is the Filter Factor, i.e how many stops of Light are reduced?

A: The filter factor is, 2x (1-Stop) to 2x (1-Stop).

Q: 8. By how many stops of light does the circular polarizer decrease exposure?

A: The following unit will effectively reduce your lens aperture by up to 2 full stops.

Q: 9. Is the Hoya RA54 filter coated for anti-reflection, or, more to the point, is flaring an issue with it?

A: I have used a 49 mm in my optical train on a refracting telescope setup after the field flattener optics and before the t ring adapter for a Nikon D3300 camera body. My stars are circular through out the image plane, no coma or fringing. It does reduce light pollution, so longer exposures can be made for astrophotography. Never used it for day light photography. I would think if it performs well as an inexpensive light pollution filter for astrophotography, it should perform well for other non-wide angle applications.

Q: 10. This filter fit in canon sx 50

A: This item requires Canon Filter Adapter FA-DC67A, which is compatible with the SX40, SX50 and SX530. If not available from B&H, try Canon U.S.A. Shop (shop.usa.canon dot com). 67mm filters will then thread on the adapter.

[Glass] while this is not an everyday filter it in some cases gives very good effects. I like using it in those situations, which can be more often than one may think. It is a very good quality set. I like the two filter set as I can better control the effect ie amount of fog. It is worth the price and would recomend them.

[Glass] Love this set - it does exactly what it says it does. So many people rely on post for this type of effect but its so cool to go old school and get an analog effect during shooting.

[Glass] The filter set allows different combination of fog effect and I use it to augment ghost shadows on special photography at night when bright lights are illuminating the scene.

[Glass] I use this softening filter in certain landscape situations, not necessarily for portraiture. And guess what, that can be lots of fun! I use it with my 105 Nikor micro lens occasionally and can get the most dreamy look, just gorgeous. No kidding. I also have the 77mm size, pro mist 3 for the 70-200 zoom. Really can't tell much difference between the #2 and #3 strength. Get the black version if you don't want some halos around the highlights. I like the halos personally. The more backlighting or highlights with light areas, the more halos
