The Jensen Vintage Alnico P12N IR Library for TH-U SuperCabinet from Overloud is a SuperCabinet IR library, which captures the powerful, clear tones of the vintage Jensen P12N 12" Alnico speaker in 1x12 and 2x12 configurations, and captured by 19 microphones for an impressive 1216 total impulse responses. A potent speaker long respected for its use in high-end amps of the time, like the Fender Tweed Twin, this IR library is a great choice for either pristinely clean guitar tone or gritty and greasy bite.

The 19 mics were used to record in four different horizontal positions, two distances, and two angles for a total of 16 IRs each. When the tone may seem too bright for modern uses, Overloud includes a convenient remastered version of each IR, effectively doubling the number of available IRs, which utilize finely tuned top-end response, for increased warmth in contemporary-style settings. Designed exclusively for the SuperCabinet IR processor, easily blend and create custom cabinet tones and export IRs in WAV format for use in external IR loaders and modelers. The Jensen Vintage Alnico P12N IR Library is an ideal choice for those seeking high-powered vintage tone in a versatile and affordable package.

The AlNiCo P12N is surely one of the most iconic Jensen speakers of the late '50s. Visually impressive because of the big-bell cover on the magnet, it is the highest powered 12" speaker in the range. Among others, the P12N was used in the high-end amps of the time such as the Fender Tweed Twin. Crystal clear in the treble range with transparent mids and powerful but tight bass, it is the king of clean tones but can deliver powerful, gritty, and greasy lead tones like a well-pushed Tweed-style amp. The standard 19-mic 16-position Overloud capturing process translates an involving, realistic rendition of the 1x12 and 2x12 open-back vintage-correct cabinets.

This library also includes a remastered version of all the IRs. The vintage Jensen speakers were designed mainly for clean tones. The maximum overdrive achievable back in those days was generated by the amplifier's natural clipping and compression and by some of the earlier fuzz pedals. Those speakers were voiced for sparkly, shimmering treble response, with a remarkable amount of energy well over 6 kHz, to be coupled with the warm-sounding circuits and thin resonant cabinets of the era. The IRs of the Vintage Jensen Speakers behave exactly as expected: bright, clear, and detailed.

In the modern world, especially with high-gain tones that are naturally very rich in harmonic overtones, all this energy in the treble range may occasionally turn into an overly bright, aggressive tone. To further expand the possible applications of these historic speakers, Overloud decided to offer all the Vintage Jensen IRs with a remastered version, where the top-end response is finely tuned to be warmer and less prominent to make it more suitable for contemporary higher gain applications. This creates a sort of virtually aged tone that offers a whole new range of sounds for every application. All the IRs in the library are effectively doubled by the remastered version, opening up new possibilities to the player beyond the original hardware.

The microphones used during the capture sessions for this IR library are:

  • AKG C12
  • AKG C414
  • AKG C414 XLS
  • Audio Technica AT4033
  • Beyerdynamic M160
  • Coles 4038
  • Electro Voice RE16
  • Groove Tubes MD1
  • Neumann KM84
  • Neumann U47
  • Neumann U87

  • Sennheiser E609
  • Sennheiser MD421
  • Shure B52
  • Shure SM57
  • Shure SM58
  • Shure SM81

Every microphone has been moved to 4 different horizontal positions (Cap, Cap Edge, Cone, and Cone Edge), two distances and two angles, for a total of 16 IRs each. All the measurements set have been repeated for each cabinet in the library, and all IRs have been phase aligned, so they can be blended without phase cancellation.

[Download] These rigs sound amazing! Lots of different impulses and captures to match most scenarios. The addition of direct rigs for use with even more impulse responses is a huge bonus.

[Download] I have been using these photo albums for a long time. I love that they are 3 ring - making it easy to view the photos. The pockets make it easy to just slide the photos in place when you are ready to put them away. Thank you for making this product available.

[Download] Albums are really very lovely. I like them and will use them.

I would have liked to have an option to also have full page self-adhesive pages. I cannot find self-adhesive pages to fit these albums and do not want top loading pages. Advise on this would be appreciated.

[Download] I had the 8 bay TB2 and it worked super. Needed to upgrade and went for the 12 bay. It too works super. Hardware Raid is amazing. Nothing seems to slow it down. It maintains top level transfer speeds no matter what I am doing. It NEVER dips...consistent to drawer performance.

[Download] I had old 8-bay ARC-8050 (a Thunderbolt [v1]) unit from Areca. While it kept the data that I needed, during the Mac OSX BigSur shutdown it usually timed out when I wrote something to it. I wanted to change to a higher capacity and a new Thunderbolt 3 device. I got it shipped quickly directly from a third party. I checked the order of drives in the old 8-bay ARC-8050 (top one is drive #1, bottom one is drive #8); checked the order of drives in the new 12-bay Areca unit (top left is #1, top right is #6, bottom right is #12); placed drive #1 from the old unit into drive #1 in the new one, .. etc. Connected the new unit to my Mac, booted Mac and... my drive appeared... Very and painless transfer... The new unit is very fast: write is about 1600 MB/s, read about 700 MB/s (that's 8 10TB drives configured as RAID 6 [60TB disk] with about only 4TB free on disk). I'll add more drives when I have the money :-)
