Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What's the difference between this filter and the seemingly identical Edition I version, which is $50 cheaper right here at B&H?

A: The version II has haptic feedback, so each stop has a click to notify you when you've reached the desired stop without really looking. It comes in a much smaller, eco-friendly package, a newly designed defender case and the trim is a little bit more gold. Optically there really isn't a difference. I have the original 2-5 and the newer 6-9 and the image is identical. Different color shifts but it's almost non-existant. Hopefully this helps!

Q: 2. Does the V1 have issues with filming windows and dark color too?

A: This filter would not exhibit issues with filming windows or dark colors.

Q: 3. What is the difference between the Peter McKinnon Signature Edition PolarPro 77-6/9 filter for 249.99 vs. the one for 299.99?

A: The Polar Pro Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II ($249.99) is the newer variant of the filter. It has a haptic feedback mechanism that clicks to indicate when you've reached the next or previous stop. The ring is also a bit more gold than it's predecessor and comes in a smaller environmental friendly package. The older version ($299) comes in a bigger fancier box, does not have the haptic feedback and is optically the same as the newer variant. If I were you, I would go with the Signature Edition II, it's cheaper and it's the most updated version of the filter.

Q: 4. Will this filter allow the hood to be used with the Canon RF 85mm F1.2L lens? Is their any colour shift, image loss of detail, or vignetting when using this filter with that lens?

A: The lens hood for the Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L Lens can still be used along with this filter. However, it is best to adjust the filter to the desired setting prior to attaching the hood.

Q: 5. Will the lens hood of Sony 70-200 GMII fit over the filter?

A: No, the PolarPro 77mm Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II Variable ND 1.8 to 2.7 Filter (6 to 9-Stop) will not fit the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II Lens with a lens hood.

Q: 6. I run the Sony e-mount for both photo and video. Is this the best filter solution for me or is there a better option out there? Also, how much filter would I need outside in bright sun to shoot at f1.4?

A: No, the following workflow ND 4x6 or 100mm ND filters would make a more suitable workflow. Here are the 4x6 filters that we have to offer https://bhpho.to/3I4VM76 Be mindful of the following wide angle lens look into soft transitions filters mid-range lens look into hard transitions filters

Q: 7. What is the difference between this filter and the almost identical "PolarPro 77mm Peter McKinnon Edition Variable Neutral Density 1.8 to 2.7 Filter (6 to 9-Stop) (B&H link: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1479431-REG/polarpro_77_6_9_vnd_variable_nd_77mm_6.html)? I can't seem to find any differences in the description or specifications.

A: The difference between this ND Filter and PolarPro 77mm Peter McKinnon Edition Variable Neutral Density 1.8 to 2.7 Filter (6 to 9-Stop) is this Filter ring incorporates a haptic feedback mechanism for quick adjustment, without the need to stop and look at the filter position. Also, the Filter will include a Defender 360 hybrid cap/case for storage and transport, featuring a waterproof and dustproof seal.

Q: 8. Which filter should i purchase to fit my Sigma 50mm and Sirui 50mm?

A: The PolarPro 82mm Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II Variable ND 1.8 to 2.7 Filter (6 to 9-Stop), B&H # PO8269VNDED2, listed above would be compatible for use with the Sirui 50mm T2.9 Full Frame 1.6x Anamorphic Lens as it has 82mm front filter threads. As the Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Anamorphic 1.33x Lens uses smaller 67mm front filter threads, the PolarPro 67mm Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II Variable ND 1.8 to 2.7 Filter (6 to 9-Stop), B&H # PO6769VNDED2, would instead be compatible for use with the Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Anamorphic 1.33x Lens. As the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens has 77mm front filter threads, the PolarPro 77mm Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II Variable ND 1.8 to 2.7 Filter (6 to 9-Stop), B&H # PO7769VNDED2, would be the correct size filter for use on the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens.

Q: 9. Does this filter color match the Polar Pro Basecamp Matte Box ND filter?

A: These will both be different in terms of the intensity of ND they include, however colorcast and filter color matching should be the same out of both.

Q: 10. If you use this Variable ND Filter on a Sony 200-600mm Lens, can you still put the lens hood on?

A: yes the Lens hood has a cutout that allows you to rotate the variable nd filter

[Multi Coated] You really can't go wring with anything by PolarPro. I also own the original version of this model and it's worth it to get the new one. Image is beautiful and the packing on this is A+.

[5 x 4.7 x 1.1"] It's great, 2 in 1 filter. Produces great images and video with it.

[Glass] This specific filter has the ability to create some beautiful imagery. It blooms lights and specific colors in a very pleasing way. You get the polarizer for reflections, you get the ND to keep your shutter right. The gold makes this special though. Everyone does black mist. Set yourself apart with gold mist and see what you can do to stand out.

[Multi Coated] I purchased this filter to help with some VERY specific dessert video and it worked without a hitch. I’ve used plenty of VND’s and ND filters. This is one of the best as the color cast was fairly minimal.

[5 x 4.7 x 1.1"] love the fact that you have a clear feel each time you add or take off a stop of light

[Multi Coated] I don't see why I'll ever remove this from my Lumix S Pro 50mm. Maybe only for the 2 to 5-Stop for lower light indoor conditions.

I tried others before and there was always some crazy vignetting that you can't remove in post. I don't see that here at all.

If you need, and why wouldn't you, to open up your aperture... get them.

I'm now thinking of buying the mist edition just to take that clinical look away from the sharp, modern lenses that I use.

[Multi Coated] I think the 2-4 stop is perfect. Very subtle but offers more natural cinematic affect that I was going for. I almost always leave it on my camera.

[Multi Coated] This VND is great and meets my needs. I typically use the tilta mirage but in cases where I want to have a lighter rig this works perfectly. I may switch to using these exclusively.
