The 46mm Kolari Vision Blue IR/NDVI Filter 46mmfrom Kolari Vision Blue IR/NDVI Filter 46mmworks with full spectrum cameras to transmit both blue and IR, making it ideal for NDVI crop analysis applications. It allows an NDVI to be generated from a single image using the blue and red channels of the image. This filter is also useful for landscape photography, as it produces a similar effect to a 590nm IR filter after a channel swap, right out of the camera. This standard version of the filter features uncoated glass and an aluminum ring. (An optional pro version is available that has coated glass and a brass ring.)

A full spectrum modification is required to be made to your camera. This entails manually removing the camera's low-pass filter and replacing it with a clear filter. Once that's done, this filter will work as intended. (Kolari Vision can make the modification for you at a cost if you send in your camera to them.)

Q: 1. Will this fit on the Sol 45mm?

A: Yes, the Sol 45 is a 46mm thread mount.

Q: 2. What is the difference between these and the extension kit that’s the same price?

A: Close up filters are easy to use, with no loss of light, but lose image quality, do not work well on wide angle lenses and you cannot focus at infinity. Extension tubes work well on wide to normal lenses and there is no lost in image quality. However, they do not work well on telephotos, you lose infinity, you lose light the longer they are, exposure can be trial and error, the build quality of the connection and any electronics can have an effect on usefulness.

Q: 10. Hi B&H Photo,Hope you may help. I'm interested of buying this filter for my Summilux 50mm f1.4 lens (1964 Type 2) which uses 43mm size filter.I mainly to use it for protection and would like to use Leica brand filter. However, I normally use UVA filter and never use IR filter before. With this filter it has UVA/IR so Im wondering how would the IR part impacting the picture quality. Im aware this was designed for M8 which reduces the purple-ish colour in Black colour. Im using M6 film camera with Summilux lens so I would like to know would that be ok to use this UVA/IR filter or it may have impact on picture quality if Im not using M8.Hope you may help and I rely on your expert opinions on this. :)Thank you,Frederick

A: This filter is an Infrared filter and is not for the use you described.I suggest a filter like this one. It is one of the better brands for optics and coatings.B+W 43mm XS-Pro UV MRC-Nano 010M FilterB&H # BWUVXSP43 ? Mfr # 66-1073879http://bhpho.to/1uBf9XT

[3 x 2.6 x 0.55"] I've been using the Kolari Vision IR Chrome Lens Filter on my IR full spectrum modified Sony a7iii with the 24mm G-Master lens. In order to achieve the vibrant red foliage colors with realistic blue skies and other colors, it is critical to have the correct custom white balance. At least with the Sony this required some experimentation as the usual gray card setting makes green foliage more orange than red (see photo), and this is very hard to correct in Lightroom. With my Sony, getting vibrant red foliage pushed the hues of other colors off a bit. Your experience may differ as I'm betting it's a function of the color algorithms in the specific camera being used. I did find that desaturating all color channels except blue can be any easy way to get b&w IR images with nice blue skies (see photo). Like all filters, plan to play with it a while to see how it affects your images under various circumstances.

[0.25 lb] Works great on full spectrum cameras. Lets you get into the deep infrared on 720nm or higher converted cameras.

[Glass] Shoot aerochrome with you converted full spectrum digital camera. Works like a charm, just set your white balance and trees turn red but keeps the sky blue. No need to sit in front of your computer to swap channels.
Ensure that your lenses do not create hotspots. Some lenses can create spots in the centre of images.

[0.25 lb] I love the colors; the filter snaps into the Canon adapter and fits snugly. The Vari ND wheel spins somewhat freely, similar to the canon version. I wish it had some more tension on the wheel so it would feel more solid. But in no way effects the performance, it's superior to the canon in my opinion.

[0.25 lb] I recently ordered this to have more options when shooting with a full-spectrum converted camera. It's great to be able to do false colour infrared without needing to use channel mixing in post production. It also opens up a wider range of treatments in the resulting files. I think it's my new favourite IR look.

[3 x 2.6 x 0.55"] I’m new to IR photography. I’m using a Sony F828 with the magnet hack (Google it) & various external filters. I started with standard filters such as 720nm & 850nm but wanted something to pass more color for a more interesting twist. This 550nm delivers; it was worth the wait. It’s a lot of fun and making me enjoy photography again. There’s a lot of information out there about post-processing. Play with channel swapping (Photoshop channel mixer) to flex your creative muscles.

[Aluminum] This is not a filter to have just for fun. First of all it requires you to have a Full spectrum conversion on your camera. Second of all it is for a very specific use and its price is no joke, so if you don't need it I would spend my money on something else I would use more. But in my case it's been a blast. I will use a lot more my converted camera now that I have it, and just getting started with experimenting out of the users manual I have a lot of ideas to work on with this filter.
The filter only lets through UV light so exposure compensation is required and even under bright sun you will more than likely shoot on a tripod, with high ISO using slow shutter speeds. This filter is a tool, not a toy.

[0.25 lb] Its almost magic. Se what your eyes can't see. Thats what this filter does in a full conversion camera, a tripod and a photographer capable of working with tools that are not for everyone. But if you pay what it costs and wait for it to be back ordered you are more than likely a committed photographer already. The filter can be used in a lot of scientific uses but I got it once I converted a full frame DSLR with still a lot of life ahead to full spectrum and got a very large set of filters to get the most of it shooting infrared and UV photography. So far it's been a great way to open new possibilities on creative photographic exploration.

[Glass] Infrared takes a hole lot of experimenting. If you convert a camera I would say make a Full Spectrum Conversion. After that a full set of filters to se your options. This filter is one of the most user friendly filters you can get for it. Have fun with it if you get it.

[46 mm] OK if you are not sure if you will use it don't buy it. But if you have a full spectrum camera, this is one of your filters in your IR, UV filter set. Color IR is not for every one but it can be a blast if you find a way to understand what this filter can do for you.
