The 52mm Kolari Vision Blue IR/NDVI Lens Filter 52mmfrom Kolari Vision Blue IR/NDVI Lens Filter 52mmworks with full spectrum cameras to transmit both blue and IR, making it ideal for NDVI crop analysis applications. It allows an NDVI to be generated from a single image using the blue and red channels of the image. This filter is also useful for landscape photography, as it produces a similar effect to a 590nm IR filter after a channel swap, right out of the camera. This standard version of the filter features uncoated glass and an aluminum ring. (An optional pro version is available that has coated glass and a brass ring.)

A full spectrum modification is required to be made to your camera. This entails manually removing the camera's low-pass filter and replacing it with a clear filter. Once that's done, this filter will work as intended. (Kolari Vision can make the modification for you at a cost if you send in your camera to them.)

Q: 4. I own the new Nikon P900 camera. I want a filter to protect the lens. Which filter works better to protect the lens, a clear glass filter or a UV filter?

A: In the days when Film was the only medium, the UV filter was definitely the way to go. With digital, most seem to prefer the clear glass filter. I own both (a hold-over from the days of film) and for the most part, I use the Nikon Clear Glass Filter on all my lens on my Digital SLRs. I'm still using UV on my Nikon F-100 for the shorter lenses, Skylight for longer ones. Hope this helps.

[Glass] I love the colors; the filter snaps into the Canon adapter and fits snugly. The Vari ND wheel spins somewhat freely, similar to the canon version. I wish it had some more tension on the wheel so it would feel more solid. But in no way effects the performance, it's superior to the canon in my opinion.

[Aluminum] I have only tested this filter on my Lifepixel-modified Canon R6 (v1), but I like it already. It produces some really interesting color combinations that my other Lifepixel IR filters do not. Samples below are with custom white balance in-camera.

[Aluminum] Its almost magic. Se what your eyes can't see. Thats what this filter does in a full conversion camera, a tripod and a photographer capable of working with tools that are not for everyone. But if you pay what it costs and wait for it to be back ordered you are more than likely a committed photographer already. The filter can be used in a lot of scientific uses but I got it once I converted a full frame DSLR with still a lot of life ahead to full spectrum and got a very large set of filters to get the most of it shooting infrared and UV photography. So far it's been a great way to open new possibilities on creative photographic exploration.

[Glass] Shoot aerochrome with you converted full spectrum digital camera. Works like a charm, just set your white balance and trees turn red but keeps the sky blue. No need to sit in front of your computer to swap channels.
Ensure that your lenses do not create hotspots. Some lenses can create spots in the centre of images.

[Aluminum] OK if you are not sure if you will use it don't buy it. But if you have a full spectrum camera, this is one of your filters in your IR, UV filter set. Color IR is not for every one but it can be a blast if you find a way to understand what this filter can do for you.

[Aluminum] I recently ordered this to have more options when shooting with a full-spectrum converted camera. It's great to be able to do false colour infrared without needing to use channel mixing in post production. It also opens up a wider range of treatments in the resulting files. I think it's my new favourite IR look.

[0.06 lb] I’m new to IR photography. I’m using a Sony F828 with the magnet hack (Google it) & various external filters. I started with standard filters such as 720nm & 850nm but wanted something to pass more color for a more interesting twist. This 550nm delivers; it was worth the wait. It’s a lot of fun and making me enjoy photography again. There’s a lot of information out there about post-processing. Play with channel swapping (Photoshop channel mixer) to flex your creative muscles.
