The 82mm Kolari Vision Pro Dark CPL Filter 82mm 5-Stopfrom Kolari Vision Pro Dark CPL Filter 82mm 5-Stopoffers standard CPL functionality while doubling as a 5-stop ND filter. The ND aspect darkens the image by five stops of light but doesn't negatively affect the CPL qualities of the filter. As a CPL, the filter helps reduce reflections, cut through atmospheric haze, and boost color saturation and vibrancy. One CPL application this filter can be used for is to shoot through glass, such as windows or car windshields.

The filter is designed with two pieces of glass. When the front element of the filter is rotated, the two glass sections are adjusted to produce the desired result for different environments. The glass optics are multicoated to reduce reflections, increase light transmission, reduce flares and ghosting, and make the filter resistant to water, dust, scratches, and fingerprints. The filter ring is made of low-profile aluminum with knurled edges and 67mm threading on both sides.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can these be used with step-up rings without optical problems?

A: Yes, step up rings will not be a problem with this filter.

Q: 2. Can this fit on Fuji 50mm F1.0 lens?

A: Yes, they are both 77mm threads.

Q: 3. can you use Canon filters in this adapter?

A: The Neewer EF to EOS R Mount Adapter with CPL Filter is not compatible with Canon filters.

Q: 4. Is there just 1 or does this have 2ea. ?

A: The Thinkware TWA-CPL Circular Polarizer Filter, B&H # THACPL, includes 1 piece.

Q: 5. why isn't there a 72mm?

A: This filter is not available at 72mm at this time. However we do have other higher quality options that are, such as the B+W 72mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter, BH #BWNDVXSP72. https://bhpho.to/2V2u8vJ

Q: 6. Has anyone used it on an ultra-wide like the Sony 16-35 2.8? I'm worried how it will perform when ultra-wide.

A: The Polarpro filters are excellent and should produce high quality images without any vignetting on the wide end.

Q: 7. If I'm attaching this to my Canon 24-105mm lens, will this accept it's lens hood?

A: Unfortunately, the hood will not work with the filter.

Q: 8. Is there a setting with no density: i.e., a completely clear setting?

A: The lowest density on that filter is 2 stop reduction of light.

Q: 9. Hi ! Video guy question ! Will this let me go f1.8 on 1/50 and 200 iso on a bright sunny day ? Or I need the other version. Thanks

A: Unfortunately, we cannot be sure exactly how much density you will need without knowing the original exposure or the ambient light level. However, I would guesstimate that, by using the Sunny-16 rule, I would recommend you would need at least a 10-stop neutral density filter for your usage needs, so the above option would not work for your usage. If you are looking for an alternative that would work, I would recommend the Aurora-Aperture 77mm Power XND Mark II Variable ND 1.5 to 3.3 Filter (5 to 11-Stop), B&H # AUVND322K77, or the Haida 77mm NanoPro Variable Neutral Density 0.9 to 3.0 Filter (3 to 10-Stop), B&H # HANPVND77, for your usage needs.

Q: 10. Can I know where is the filter manufactureed ?

A: I got 82mm Super Dark VND. There is word Japan on edge.

[Aluminum] Yeah not sure what that other guy is on about. This isn’t a perfect CPL but it’s not supposed to be. It just allows you to adjust the natural polarizing effect of a VND, not fully remove reflections. Anyways, it’s well built, a breeze to use, has minimal tint/color-shift and very little artifacting. My favorite VND I’ve ever used

[0.285 lb] After long ago exploring IR images with Kodak chemical films, I purchased the Kolari K665Pro and K720Pro to use on a stock Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and Canon lenses. I chose the Kolari Pro series for their sharp cutoff spectra as well as their filter coatings compared to Kolari's base series or Hoya. The Kolari Pro quality / performance / price point trade-offs were great IMHO. Starting with the 665, I set the camera for manual exposure (typically bracketing around +2) and manual focus (typically longer focus settings), and the stock sensors pick up enough red for good composition and control. It has been a short learning curve and I am most pleased with the images that the Kolari filters are generating: awesome black and white landscapes, cloudscapes, and waterscapes, and excellent starting points for post-processed color shots (native red hue or channel swapped)! No discernible color aberration until I push the image magnification to its pixel limits. The coatings have been great with tough lighting angles - no flares - and stay remarkably clean in windy, dusty environments! Continuing experiments with the 720, which pushes the limits of the stock sensors but still works well. Highly recommend the Kolari 665Pro for anyone getting into IR!!!

[82 mm] I have only tested this filter on my Lifepixel-modified Canon R6 (v1), but I like it already. It produces some really interesting color combinations that my other Lifepixel IR filters do not. Samples below are with custom white balance in-camera.

[Aluminum] Picked this up for use on my Canon R5C and I'm very impressed with the overall build quality. This is my first product by Kolari, but they have been on my radar for years with the Infrared conversions and magnetic filters they make. Happy to say this adapter and drop-in filters are very well built. The auto-focus features and communication with lens to camera has so far been perfect with my Sigma EF lenses, so I'm very pleased with that. The filters themselves are super clean and do not appear to have any color shifts or aberrations. And best of all, the control wheel for the VND is actually the right amount of resistance! Doesn't budge if you bump it (like the Canon brand one), but smoothly spins when you need to adjust it. At this price point, I'd recommend this kit over the Canon OEM alternative all day.

[Glass] Works well.
Would be great if there was some other strength (8-stop, 10-stop, 2-stop, etc.)

[Multi Coated] After long ago exploring IR images with Kodak chemical films, I purchased the Kolari K665Pro and K720Pro to use on a stock Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and Canon lenses. I chose the Kolari Pro Gen series for their sharp cutoff spectra as well as their filter coatings compared to Kolari's base series or Hoya. The Kolari Pro quality / performance / price point trade-offs were great IMHO.

I posted a review of the 665 and can not say enough positives about it!!! 5 stars!!!

Still experimenting with the 720. It is slightly more technically challanging on a stock camera, but just as impressive as the 665 so far. Highly recommend the Kolari Pro Gen series for anyone getting into IR!!!

[Aluminum] I’m new to IR photography. I’m using a Sony F828 with the magnet hack (Google it) & various external filters. I started with standard filters such as 720nm & 850nm but wanted something to pass more color for a more interesting twist. This 550nm delivers; it was worth the wait. It’s a lot of fun and making me enjoy photography again. There’s a lot of information out there about post-processing. Play with channel swapping (Photoshop channel mixer) to flex your creative muscles.
