The 49mm Kolari Vision UV/IR Cut H-Alpha Filter 49mmfrom Kolari Vision UV/IR Cut H-Alpha Filter 49mmcuts UV and IR light when your camera's native UV/IR filter isn't strong enough and lets some IR light pass through. It can also be used in combination with ND filters that do not cut out IR light. And it also works as a protective filter, as it causes no color cast nor exposure correction. The filter has coated Schott B270 glass. This filter features an aluminum ring threaded on both sides.

Alternatively, this filter can be used with a full spectrum modified camera to provide more than four times the sensitivity in the H-alpha (Ha) line compared to most cameras' native sensitivity, and greater than six times the sensitivity in the sulfur II line. A full spectrum modification entails manually removing the camera's low-pass filter and replacing it with a clear filter. (Kolari Vision can make the modification for you at a cost if you send in your camera to them.) This Ha filter has a similar transmission to Kolari's hot mirror filter, but with an expanded spectral response covering the H-alpha and sulfur II emission lines, making it also useful for astrophotography.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this fit with Sony Alpha 1?

A: Unfortunately, Kase does not list this Kase 4-In-1 UV & ND Clip-In Filter Set for Sony Alpha Cameras as compatible with the Sony A1.

Q: 2. Does the frame on this 'seal' around the perimeter, protecting the sensor from dust?

A: Yes, the Kase 4-In-1 UV & ND Clip-In Filter Set for Sony Alpha Cameras is sealed to protect dust from attaching to the camera's sensor.

Q: 3. Can I purchase replacement matte black shading fabric??? Lost one!

A: Sorry about this, but it is not provided separately.

Q: 4. Does the adapter lock securely (or securely enough) and not easy to fall off?

A: Yes. The following unit offers a tight fit that is designed for Ricoh GR IIIx.

Q: 5. With a filter, does this adapter provide enough clearance for the lens to further extend in macro mode? The lens extends a few mm further in macro mode.

A: The NISI 49mm Filter Adapter for the Ricoh GR IIIX should have no issue with extending the lens further while in macro mode.

Q: 6. Interesting. Is this sealed at the edges so that the sensor does not get dust on it? Or is there an airgap around the frame somewhere? I'm thinking the UV filter might be a good choice, easier to clean than a sensor if you change lens frequesntly?

A: Yes, the Kase 4-In-1 UV & ND Clip-In Filter Set for Sony Alpha Cameras is sealed to protect dust from attaching to the camera's sensor.

Q: 7. Will these fit the a7r4?

A: Yes. These are compatible with the Sony Alpha a7R IV.

Q: 8. I shoot with the Sony a7riv and noticed a couple of reviewers stated the filters were loose and could fall out if the cameras were tilted forward. What is your expert take on this?

A: It's possible that a small percentage of these have slight manufacturing defects that create a less than snug fit. Taking care when using the filters will mostly solve this.

Q: 9. Is the filter maker fixing this problem any soon? : "Cons: It doesn't have a snug fit in the Sony a7sIII. If you remove your lens and your camera body is tilting forward, it can easily fall out."

A: As of the date/time of this reply, I have not heard of a redesign of the Kase 4-In-1 UV & ND Clip-In Filter Set for Sony Alpha Cameras (MCUV/ND8/ND64/ND1000).

Q: 10. Will this fit Sony A7S3?

A: Yes it will!

[49 mm] This filter has greatly enhanced my photos of the night sky. I use a Canon EOS 6D Mark II that has a full spectrum modification and this filter helps reduce the red spectrum which makes the picture look more natural.

[Aluminum] I love this filter and it makes the quality of shoots much better. Highly recommended as long as you have a lens that fits the filter.

[3 x 2.6 x 0.55"] I recently ordered this to have more options when shooting with a full-spectrum converted camera. It's great to be able to do false colour infrared without needing to use channel mixing in post production. It also opens up a wider range of treatments in the resulting files. I think it's my new favourite IR look.

[0.08 lb] Filter really makes a bold difference in astro imaging. Noting that the lens sun hood doesn't fit over the knurled edge of the filter. I can live with it since a sun hood is rarely needed at night... if I were to use this filter for artistic reasons during the day I might have another thought

[Multi Coated] I've been using the Kolari Vision IR Chrome Lens Filter on my IR full spectrum modified Sony a7iii with the 24mm G-Master lens. In order to achieve the vibrant red foliage colors with realistic blue skies and other colors, it is critical to have the correct custom white balance. At least with the Sony this required some experimentation as the usual gray card setting makes green foliage more orange than red (see photo), and this is very hard to correct in Lightroom. With my Sony, getting vibrant red foliage pushed the hues of other colors off a bit. Your experience may differ as I'm betting it's a function of the color algorithms in the specific camera being used. I did find that desaturating all color channels except blue can be any easy way to get b&w IR images with nice blue skies (see photo). Like all filters, plan to play with it a while to see how it affects your images under various circumstances.

[49 mm] If you have a BMPCC 4K camera, you will need a UV and IR cut filter, the 77mm fits, but the 82mm does not.

[IR/UV Control] The BMPCC 4k's color is a little off because of IR, this fixes it to make it PERFECT.
