This NiSi 77mm Black Mist 1/4 & 1/8 Filter Kit with Casefrom NiSi 77mm Black Mist 1/4 & 1/8 Filter Kit with Casecan be used to create a cinematic look by lowering contrast and highlights within the frame to balance the tonal range between highlights and shadows. Black mist diffusion filters are also commonly used to help soften wrinkles, blemishes and create a flattering image of a subject. Black mist suppresses highlights and lifts shadows for well-balanced contrast. Light sources maintain a strong center with a pleasing glow from the light source. Beyond portraiture, black mist filters can also be used in other applications, such as night photography, landscape, and still life, to create a cinematic atmosphere by adding extra blooming and gradients to the highlights in a scene. Any direct light source will become more film-like, with a smoother, buttery texture around the highlights.

Made of optical glass, the filters in this kit have strength grades of 1/4 and 1/8, the filter effect becomes approximately twice as strong as a grade number increases. Each filter features a 77mm aluminum ring, and the kit includes a convenient storage case.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a front thread - can this be stacked with another filter? If so, what’s the thread size?

A: This does not have a front thread for stacking.

Q: 2. Are there adapter rings for the 82 mm kit to allow the filters to be used on 67mm and 72mm lenses?

A: You can use a standar step up ring to connect the 82mm filters on lenses with a smaller diameter. Please review the options below. 1-67-82mm step up ring https://bhpho.to/3IMV5yt 2- 72-82mm step up ring https://bhpho.to/3Pb6RGo

Q: 3. Is this also fit to Tamron 15-30mm f2.8?

A: No, you will need to get the 150mm system from Nisi specifically for the Tamron 15-30mm lens. Click the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/2Go1Rxx

Q: 4. rather than pay extra for the 15stop filter couldn't I combine the 10stop with the 6-stop polarizer in the cheaper Circular kit?

A: Combining multiple ND filters will result in vignetting at wide angle focal lengths whereas a single filter with 15 stop filter will ensure you don't get vignette.

Q: 5. Will this work with generic adapter rings with thread sizes 49 and 58 mm?

A: Yes it would work with generic step up rings that go to 82mm. The step up ring needs to step to 82mm to screw onto the Nisi V6.

Q: 6. Anyone have issues with reflections? I just purchased and when filming light I'm getting reflections on the glass. Any tips on not getting that?

A: In my former career, I was a motion picture camera assistant. As such, part of my job before each take was to make sure there were no reflections or hot spots of light hitting the front lens element or the filters. I would use a matte box with top and side flaps to get rid of most of the problems. The rule of thumb was if I was using a longer lens, I could take care of it with the matte box and flaps. However, if using a very wide lens, a matte box and flaps are no good because if you set the flaps to get rid of the flare or hot spot, they are visible in the frame. When that happened, I would ask one of the grips to set a flag at the source of the flare, be it a movie light or the sun. If it was a moving shot, the grip would have to "fly" the flag to make sure the light did not hit the lens. Now, what can a regular guy do without a grip department? Use a sunshade or matte box or a french flag. You might be able to move the offending light or the camera enough to get rid of the flare. Just know if you cannot stop the extraneous light from hitting the front end of the lens, it will be in the image to some degree.

Q: 7. Is Schneider 77mm Hollywood Black Magic 1/4 Filter can fit Canon EF 50mm 1.2?

A: The Schneider 77mm Hollywood Black Magic 1/4 Filter will not fit directly fit on the Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM Lens (which has a 72mm filter thread) without a 72-77mm step-up ring.

Q: 8. Where is this manufactured?

A: This product is made in China.

Q: 9. Is there much difference between this filter and the Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter? The Tiffen is $70 cheaper.

A: The Schneider 77mm Hollywood Black Magic filter would have much higher quality glass and construction compared to a lower cost filter. The higher quality glass is why it has a clean glow as mentioned by another user.

Q: 10. Which filter that fits this filter holder is recommended for solar eclipses?

A: The LEE Filters 100x100mm Solar Eclipse Filter is recommended for solar eclipses and it will fit in the NiSi V6 100mm Filter Holder Kit with Enhanced Landscape CPL Filter.

[0.485 lb] It's practically the same as the Tiffen one but costs a lot less. It's worth grabbing. The 1/8 is subtle so it's great with coroporate gigs.
