The 12G-SDI to Single-Mode LC Fiber Transmitter - AJA openGearis a state-of-the-art, openGear compatible, 2-channel 12G-SDI to Fiber converter, enabling 12G-SDI signals to be extended up to 6.2 miles over standard single-mode fiber optic cable. The two 12G-SDI inputs are completely independent, allowing different 12G-SDI rates to be carried on each channel.

Designed for use in high-density openGear's 2 RU frames, including AJA's OG-X-FR frame. New DashBoard software support on Windows, macOS, and Linux offers remote control and monitoring of the openGear architecture and provides convenient and industry-standard configuration, monitoring, and control options over a PC or local network.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. does this include cables?

A: It includes breakout cable that provides multiple SDI inputs but it does not include any HDMI or SDI cables.

Q: 2. Can this be used to send and receive 4 HD signals over a single SRT stream? (4 HD in - Muxer - srt encoder - srt decoder - demuxer - 4 HD out)

A: The AJA 12GM 12G-SDI to/from SDI Muxer/DeMuxer is a format converter however it is not an encoder that would send a streaming (SRT) signal. You would need to add encoders to the outputs. More info - https://www.aja.com/products/12gm

Q: 3. Disregarding price, why would you get this vs a BMD Videohub or visa versa? Thanks!

A: How many inputs and outputs you need would be a big factor. This is a 32x32 12G-SDI option. BH #BLSVH12G4040 is a 40x40 12G-SDI option.

Q: 4. can this card simultaneously embed and disembed two different 12G signals?

A: Yes, the AJA openGear 12G-SDI/Dante 64-Channel Embedder/Disembedder Card can embed and disembed two different 12G signals.

Q: 5. Will this pass BMD camera control data?

A: Yes, the AJA KUMO 6464-12G Compact 12G-SDI Router (4 RU) will carry camera control data.

Q: 6. what is the most effective way to monitor the video inputs from this router ?

A: For monitoring you can connect this to a network and from there use an HTTP web browswer for control and monitoring.

Q: 7. Does this unit switch between salvos without a glitch?

A: It does not. This is not a clean switch.

Q: 8. Does it have built in scaler?

A: The unit handles many resolutions and frame rates, but it's designed to convert the HDMI signal to the 12G-SDI (there will be no scaling involved -- it passes thru the exact same video stream that was sent in on the HDMI input). What it does well is, it acts as a distribution amplifier, giving you two identical signals that can go out via 12G-SDI, but no scaling is necessary for this purpose.

Q: 9. Can it switch SDI standards other than 12-G also?

A: Normally, 12G-SDI gear is backwards compatible with 3G-SDI & 6G-SDI, but AJA specifically designed other matrix switchers for that purpose, as follows: For 12G-SDI, look to KUMO 6464-12G for 64x 12G-SDI inputs and outputs, KUMO 3232-12G for 32x 12G-SDI inputs and outputs or KUMO 1616-12G for 16x 12G-SDI inputs and outputs. For 3G-SDI, KUMO 6464 offers 64x 3G-SDI inputs and outputs, KUMO 3232 has 32x 3G-SDI inputs and outputs, KUMO 1616 has 16x 3G-SDI inputs and outputs and KUMO 1604 provides 16x 3G-SDI inputs and 4x 3G-SDI outputs.

Q: 10. Does this unit matches framerate and size of ins and outs, or everything needs to be settled to match previously?

A: This unit does not have scaling built in. All Resolutions and Frame Rates need to match before it reaches the Kumo 3232 Router.

[1.055 lb] As a key component to route on the fly- AJA delivers with this one. Well worth the investment.

*Note* I don't think they make the grey front anymore. The router I received has a blue stripe and larger logo screen printed on the front.

[1.055 lb] great compact switcher, the web gui is fantastic- it's not needed to be rebooted or have I had a loss of control in any way. very clean switching with an option for redundant power. If I need another, I'd chose this again without hesitation.

[1.055 lb] While I wasn't a fan of the cost at first, this is certainly a product where we are getting what we paid for. Cars and trucks of all sizes run over these cables all the time while we are trying to set things up, and after a year, the cables still look new- no signs of damage or even wear. They have sat outside for over a month at a time, in the rain and snow (minus the ends), and they just work great.

[openGear Frames] For Tactical fiber cables, these are ultra light weight, but they do take a beating! Great Cables!

[openGear Frames] I have purchased 1 set of these to replace coax SDI lines we needed to remove in favor of fiber. So far my initial tests are good. We are just using it for HD-SDI, but If they continue to work, I will purchase another set and this will give us 6 transmit and 6 receive signals on each end of our link using 4 strands of single mode fiber. They are virtually silent except a small fan on the side and use locking screw on power cables which is nice to prevent loss of power from a connector getting pulled out. Also they are VERY small and compact. We will use heavy duty Velcro to hold them on a rack shelf long term.
You can't beat that capacity for the price.

[2x LC (12G-SDI)] We use this to get audio/video to the front and back of large conference rooms, works great. The cable is only as thick as a single regular XLR cable.

[1.055 lb] I've come to expect well-made devices from AJA and the KUMO doesn't disappoint. Connectors are sturdy and well-spaced for easy access. I am using this unit to push video to several locations from four cameras we use for beauty shots. The GUI is simple yet provides all the features you would need in a router. I only had to crack open the manual once to set up a static IP.

[Yes] Basically in this price range it comes down to AJA or BlackMagic, I've worked with both & knowing that AJA tends to be a bit pricier, I 100% prefer the KUMO over the BMD 20x20 or 40x40 Physically the SDI connectors are spaced well versus BlackMagic, even with all connections loaded up I can quickly adjust by hand without the need of a trompeter if the situation arises. The Kumo is also way thinner & operates at a much lower temp, giving me a little peace of mind if I need to spec a quick fly pack that has less than optimal ventilation. The web UI is great & the unit saves all your settings independently of what computer you are using over the network. I know I can prep the KUMO for a gig, send it out & all my button mapping & labels will not change no matter who is looking at it or what computer they are using (unlike the BMD which is a session based setting via saved XML file). Basically its a solid router, if you can afford it & it has the # of ins/outs ya need. You can't go wrong.
