Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Looking at a couple of the step-up rings 77-95mm and 82-95mm, both by Sensei .Do you know the thickness (e.g. fore-to-aft dimension) of these rings?Thanks... Bill

A: They are about 5mm thick which is about the same as a standard UV filter ring.

Q: 2. Will this fit on the E-60 leica 35-70 f/4 R lens?

A: Yes, Sensei 60-67mm Aluminum Step-Up Ring should fit on the Leica 35-70 f/4 R lens.

Q: 3. What is the outer dimension of this step up ring?

A: The outer diameter on the Sensei 82-95mm Aluminum Step-Up Ring is 98mm.

Q: 4. Can I double up two step-up, 43-58mm and 58-67mm, adaptors to put 67mm filter on a 43mm filter thread lens?

A: Yes. I do that with my larger filters so I don't have to buy every size to fit all my all my lenses. I do try to make sure I don't block any sensors that are on the front of the camera.

Q: 5. Can this be used in a 114 Matte Box? Hypothetically want to take a Sigma Art Lens and used a Bright Tangerine Mistfit Atom.

A: The Sensei 72-95mm Aluminum Step-Up Ring allows you to connect a lens with a 72mm front thread to a 95mm thread adapter ring. Unfortunately, you cannot replace the adapter ring for the matte boxes with a step-up ring because they are designed as a proprietary system.

Q: 6. If I flip this around can I use it as a step-down ring? I know I'll have to deal with vignetting (well, maybe not technically vignetting, but overlap into the image area), but will it work until I can get the correct size filters? Or are the threads threaded in such a way that it can only screw on to the lens on one side and the filter on the other and cannot be flipped?

A: No, this can only be used as a step up ring.

Q: 7. What lens cap do i need to fit this ring?

A: This is a step up ring to fit a larger filter into smaller diameter lens. So to answer your question the lens cup will need to be 77mm.

Q: 8. What is the outside overall diameter of this ring in millimeters? I am trying to adapt this ring to fit a NiSi M75 filter holder, so it needs to fit inside the 85 mm diameter recess of the holder.

A: The outer diameter of the Sensei 77-82mm Step-Up Ring is 84mm. However, I unfortunately cannot confirm if it would be directly compatible for use with the NiSi M75 75mm Filter Holder.

Q: 9. I have never used step rings before and am just wondering can they be stacked to use 62mm filter on 52mm lens? Or is there an other option I should consider. Does stepping up like that increase the chance of lens damage considering the filter extends wider than the barrel? Thanks

A: Yes, they work just fine. I would echo the caution on internal reflections.

Q: 10. Will this fit canon lenses for a 5D mark ii camera?

A: This kit will fit any lenses and filter you want to use on the 5d mk ii.

[Side, Top] I purchased this step up ring to use with a wide angle adaptor (Raynox 6600). I love B+W and only purchase their filters and rings as I know they are made of quality materials.

[Side, Top] I bought this step-up ring NOT to mount a 49mm filter on a 46mm lens. I bought this because I have a Leica Summicron 28mm lens and the Leica lens hood is way too big for this lens. A large portion of the viewfinder is blocked by the Leica lens hood. This step-up ring has just enough added height to serve as a lens hood except under the brightest glare. This step-up ring is metal and well constructed and fits the front of my lens perfectly.

[5 mm] A quality product by B & W. Will enable me to use existing 72 mm polarizing filters and products such as a 72 mm EXPODISC on my 58 mm prime lens. And the service from B & H make for a winning combo.

[58 mm to 77 mm] In typical B&W fashion, this ring appears to be made perfectly. Inner and outer threads are very smooth.

[58 mm to 77 mm] The step-up ring works as promised. Made from high quality metal it threads smoothly onto my ND filter adapter and onto my Fuji lens. Very basic piece of equipment that does the job.

[6.5 x 4.5 x 1"] I've used a wide variety of step-up rings over the decades. This one is smoother and stronger than the cheaper ones I have used so I recommend it without reservation.

[Aluminum] As with all B+W products I've experienced, this product is build to the highest standards. Everything you expect in a step-up ring.
