Spanning a versatile zoom range and characterized by its bright design, the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD Lens Fujifilmis a 25.5-105mm-equivalent lens for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras. The wide to short-tele range is ideal for everyday shooting and the fast f/2.8 constant maximum aperture suits working in difficult lighting conditions and offers improved control over depth of field. Complementing this design is a series of specialized optics, including aspherical and low dispersion elements, that produce well-corrected imagery with high sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy. Individual elements also feature Tamron's BBAR coating, which suppresses flare and ghosting for greater contrast when working in backlit and harsh lighting conditions.

Adding to the versatility of the zoom design is a Vibration Compensation image stabilization system, which reduces the appearance of camera shake for steadier photo and video recording in low-light conditions. Also benefitting handling, an RXD stepping motor enables quick, near-silent autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override and a minimum focusing distance of 7.5". Suiting this lens's use in inclement weather conditions, it also features a moisture-resistant construction along with a fluorine-coated front element to protect against fingerprints and smudging.

Versatile zoom is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and covers wide-angle to short-telephoto fields of view with its 25.5-105mm equivalent focal length range.

Bright constant f/2.8 maximum aperture affords consistent brightness throughout the zoom range and offers improved control over depth of field.

Two molded glass aspherical elements and one hybrid aspherical element help to correct distortion and spherical aberrations to achieve a high degree of sharpness and accurate rendering.

Two LD (Low Dispersion) elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range in order to realize improved clarity and color accuracy.

BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating has been applied to individual elements in order to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting to achieve greater contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.

RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) autofocus motor delivers impressively quiet, quick, and smooth focusing performance to suit both stills and video applications. This focusing system also offers a minimum focusing distance of just 7.5" and a 1:4.8 maximum magnification for working with close-up subjects. Full-time manual focus override is also possible, and it is compatible with Sony's Direct Manual Focus function or fine-tuned manual control.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

VC image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for more effective handheld shooting in difficult lighting conditions.

A moisture-resistant construction benefits this lens' use in inclement conditions, and a fluorine coating has also been applied to the front lens element to protect against dust, dirt, and smearing.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can you turn auto focus off?

A: You can turn autofocus off. Since there is no switch on the lens it has to be done from within the camera.

Q: 2. Can i use this lens on a sony 6400 and the ronin SC?

A: Yes, you can use that combo with the Ronin SC but you may be getting close to the weight limit of the gimbal.

Q: 3. Additional warranty

A: If you haven't bought the lens, you can add either a 3 year or 4 year plan on our website when you purchase the lens. If you have already purchased the lens, you'll need to call and have our agents add the protection plan for you.

Q: 4. Is this lens sharp enough to replace the Sigma 16 and 30mm duo?

A: While I have not seen a comprehensive lens review comparing the three lenses listed above together with one another, personally, I still believe that the Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN lens and the Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN lens would both still be sharper than the Tamron 17-70 F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD lens.

Q: 5. Anyone else having very noisy auto focus at 10+ aperture? It's quite silent at f2.8 but at f22, it's very very noisy.

A: Changing the aperture should not change how loud the auto-focus is. Sounds like you got a defective lens. You could email Customer Service at cs@bhphoto.com to arrange an exchange.

Q: 6. How does this compare to SIgma 24-70 F/2.8?

A: This Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD Lens is optimized for an APS-C sensor, but it would be the equivalent to a 25.5-105mm lens on a full frame sensor. If either one was used on a Sony E mount camera with an APS-C sensor, the Tamron lens would be slightly wider as compared to the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens for Sony E once you factor in the 1.5X crop.

Q: 7. come with a lens pouch or not?

A: A lens pouch is not included with the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD Lens for FUJIFILM

Q: 8. Does the lens block any light from the built in flash? Looks kinda big and might.

A: It will not block light from a built-in flash.

Q: 9. If I zoom at 70mm, set manual focus and fast zoom out, then while zooming out I loose focus. Is it OK for this lens or I have faulty lens?

A: Yes that is normal because the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD Lens for Sony E is not a parfocal lens.

Q: 10. Is this compatible with the Fuji X-T1? I've seen conflicting reports saying only X-T2 or later.

A: The Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD Lens for FUJIFILM is compatible with the FUJIFILM X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera.

[APS-C] Note to Adobe users - UPDATE your software. There is a known bug with this lens and the X-T4 that doesn't apply lens corrections properly. Nearly ruined every image of my vacation!

Once updated the images refreshed and they were all perfect. Fell in love with this lens all over again.

[Yes] The new Tamron 17-70 has become my new all around shooter for local travel and for fun restaurant snaps. Good color, contrast, quick to focus on the Fujifilm XT4, and it's 2.8 all the way. At the wide end, you're able to do some casual closeup shooting. While it's not a true macro, being able to get in closer than your run of the mill standards is a huge bonus. I've always loved Tamron products. This is the nicest one so far.

[f/16] This is the bread and butter focal length for APS-C. And getting a constant f2.8 is really useful. With APS-C sensors you want to keep the ISO low, so speed helps. Furthermore it's harder to get subject isolation with APS-C so speed is key.

Focus works as well as any native lens (which is excellent).

The lens is sharp throughout, produces good colour and contrast. It close focuses and has OSS - great for a6000, a6100, a6300 and a6400 cameras without sensor shift.

It's bigger than its peers is the only negative thing I can say - but this is to be expected as it's either substantially faster (than the 16-70, 18-135) or has OSS (vs. 16-55).

I found the image quality to be better than the the Sony 16-70 (though I still like that lens) and quite a bit better than the Sony 18-135. It's a tad behind Sony's most excellent 16-55 (which is a true stunner at every f-stop and focal length). Put another way the Tamron is close to the Sigma trio (giving up f1.4 for zoom convenience and OSS). It's a good compromise at a good price. Highly recommended.

Now get out there and shoot!

[9, Rounded] this lens is the best I have owned. The only lens I use since I purchased it.

[Yes] This lens is awesome. For many shooters and videographers this could be a one and done lens. There are some things to be aware of. First of all it is a big lens. I would recommend getting a small cage or L-bracket like the UURig R006 to have a better grip on the small bodies of the A6XXX series when using this lens. I would not consider this a travel lens because of it's size, but your mileage may vary. I would choose the excellent Sony 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 lens over this for a travel. Also there is no switch to turn off Tamron's version of OSS, so you need to do it in camera when taking long exposures on a tripod. If you don't they will come out blurry with this lens. Also for me, this is not a substitute for the Sigma trio of F1.4 lenses, with the exception of the 16mm which is my least favorite of the three. The Sigma 56mm in particular has that magical look to it and is sharp wide open. Bokeh on the Tamron 17-70mm is good not great, but certainly an improvement over the popular full frame Tamron 28-75mm. Sharpness is excellent across the board, but as many reviews have said you need to stop it down to F4 at the long end if you're pixel peeping or making large print. For social media posting or small prints you won't notice it shooting wide open on the long end of the zoom range. If you want a fast all purpose lens for your Sony A6XXX camera and don't mind the size, this is the one you've been waiting for.

[f/16] I have the 28-70mm Tamron f/2.8 but with APS-C I needed a little more on the wide end. This lens is PERFECT and has stabilization too! Really enjoy shooting with this lens!

[Yes] I used the lens for a recent food photography gig and the versatility of the lens came in handy. The focal length, image stabilization, and constant 2.8 aperture makes this a no brainer for any Fujifilm user. For such a good focal range its not an overly big lens and balances well on the XT (single digit) and XH1 bodies.
