KITE OPTICS 12x30 APC Stabilized Binocularsbring you the latest technology in binocular image stabilization—correcting image stability by 3° for perfectly stable images, not only from a trembling hand, but even from a driving car or a boat in strong seas. This compact, lightweight instrument is powered by two AA batteries, the most common battery size worldwide, with runtime of up to 36 hours. It is ergonomically shaped and features a 1.6" long focus wheel that can be easily operated with 3 fingers.

The APC (angle power control) function detects positioning. When the instrument comes into vertical position, hanging from your neck or standing on a surface, it goes to sleep. From the second it comes to a more horizontal position, when viewing, the stabilization kicks in. No switching of buttons, no accidental battery drain. A timer function makes sure it switches off completely after 90 minutes, no matter the position, and a low battery indicator will warn you when new batteries are needed.

[2.5 mm] I bought these for my wife for her birthday. These binoculars are terrific! The image stabilization technology works wonderfully. Regular binoculars allow a quick look, but with these, we can linger, search and more greatly appreciate the field of view; birdwatching is a pleasure.
One small thing that Canon needs to address: the plastic lens caps will fall off easily. So far we have been very lucky to find them on the ground or on the floor of the car. They will fall off if you shake the binoculars, and I cannot seem to improvise a fix using tapes etc.

[-3 to +3] I have used my Canon binoculars for a little over two months now. I agree with other reviewers that the eyecups should be reconsidered but if you roll down the eyecups there is no issue unless you need to wear glasses with the binoculars. With that said, I use the binoculars for birding and find that the details I now see due to stabilization far outweighs the eyecup issue. I have found bird identification has become much easier. I found that when I am tracking a bird in flight the normal IS setting works better than the powered IS setting. The powered IS setting is better for stationary objects. Overall these are the best binoculars I have ever owned and I am comparing them to high end birding binoculars.

[12x] The exit pupil is a little smaller than the older version, but it doesnt make a noticeable difference.  The optics are outstanding and the new IS is superb.  The standard IS is fine most of the time.  The Powered IS is better if you are on a boat, etc and I discovered that if the wind is blowing hard enough to buffet your binoculars a bit, the Powered IS will filter it out.  Ergonomics are improved.  Id like to have twist up eyecups and a tripod socket, but neither is super important.

[12x] I bought these as a Christmas present mostly for my wife (thus the smaller version/lighter weight) because of the frustration I've observed with her use of lesser products.
She has never experienced the joy of large aperture, flat field, pro optics.
Combined with my decades-long experience with Canon's vari-angle prism I.S. tech and their follow-on technologies, I KNEW if purchasing something this expensive, I would do it from Canon.

I am not at all disappointed in this product:

If I were buying JUST for me, I would have gone with with one of their more expensive models with higher magnification AND a larger aperture primary lens.

Focus is crisp, easy, very flat across the field of view, and then when holding the IS button, the stabilization is so obvious and clean it makes me wonder if I need to see a doctor about hand tremors... ()

It was especially gratifying to watch my wife use them the first time and notice how easy it was to focus on objects of varying distances.
Then as a I told her to spot a more distant object, she was able to frame it, and describe the details to me. It was here where I introduced her to the IS capabilities by having her hold her view steady while letting me guide her finger to the stabilizer button. Her reaction was priceless...

I also bought (for me) a tripod mounting kit and a smartphone adapter for an eyepiece.

CANON SHOULD INCLUDE LENS CAPS, even if as an extra cost option. Depending on aftermarket parts for this critical piece is short-sighted {see what I did there?} at best.

[17 mm] I work in Airborne Law Enforcement. I have used numerous brands and styles of stabilized binoculars in my career each with their own benefits and compromises. These are hands down the best I have used. Zero compromise with these. The clarity in both high and low light conditions is incredible. The stabilizing is also incredible. After being passed around our unit, we all agree these will be the new standard binoculars for our unit. If you're on the fence about them, you will not regret your purchase or the price. The fact they have a replaceable silicon housing is also an awesome feature.

[-3 to +3] Image stabilizing works wonderfully. Because of the stabilization, I can see more detail than with my Leica 8x32 Ultravids. It is like having the binoculars on a tripod. Although the image quality is not equal to the Leica, it is surprisingly comparable for such an inexpensive pair of binoculars. There is no rain guard provided, but I found the the rain guard for my Leica 8x32s fit perfectly.

[Center] I have been using the Vortex Razor HD 8x42 which have very good optics.  I will admit the Canon 12x32 IS does not have the clarity that the vortex has but the amount of detail I am able to see with image stability makes up for and supersedes the Vortex.  I use my binoculars to bird watch.

[-3 to +3] I cannot say how much I enjoy these. The optics are sharper -- much sharper than the older models -- and with the improved stabilization I can see details a mile away and do so without jitter. I use these to watch crew rowing races and for the first time I can see the entirety of the race whereas my inability to hold my old (and rather good) 10x binoculars steady made them useless beyond 500 meters. In fact, I first bought the 10x version of these and found the stabilization so good that I returned them for the 12x. High recommended.

[12x] We received these just in time for our trip to Yellowstone, and are so happy with them. The trip would not have been the same!
