Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Whats the size of the balls? Is it compatible with Ultra Light Arms?

A: The ball measurement is not provided by Tilta, regarding the Tilta Ball Head with 1/4"-20 Screw with Locating Pins for SmallHD Monitors.

Q: 2. What is the diameter of the ball?

A: The ball diameter is approximately 30mm.

Q: 3. Does the locking pin align with the SmallHD monitor pins? Most of my smallrig pins are too far off center to hit the hole.

A: If the locking pins on the Wooden Camera NATO Mount to Ball Head Ultra Arm v2 with 1/4"-20 & 3/8"-16 Combo do not line up, they can be removed. If this is not an option, something like the Kondor Blue Swivel and Tilt Monitor Mount with ARRI Style Mount might be a better fit. It incorporates a lip, instead of pins, to keep your monitor from swiveling.

Q: 4. Can you tell us the height & width of the plate?

A: The Kondor Blue 12" ARRI Lightweight Dovetail Plate (Black) is 12 x 2.675 x 0.5" (L x W x H).

Q: 5. Will this work with the Tilta FX6 Baseplate?

A: It is unknown if the the Kondor Blue 12" ARRI Lightweight Dovetail Plate works with the Tilta Quick Release Baseplate for Sony FX6. We recommend a Tilta dovetail. Tilta 14" Lightweight ARRI Standard Dovetail Plate BH #TITTC0714 • MFR #TT-C07-14

Q: 6. I heard that it's hard to detach camera from it. Is it true?

A: Untrue. I have a D750 and its a piece of cake to put it on and take it off. The trick is to leave your camera offset from the final position you want to set it too. Tighten down the knob until you can't turn it anymore, then physically twist the camera the last 45 to the final position. This makes it extra tight. To remove, just reverse the order. Very very simple. This is an awesome ball head. Don't give it a second thought, you will not be disappointed.

Q: 7. Are the Arri locating pins spring loaded or able to be removed? I want to sue this with a regular 3/8-16" hole.

A: The SmallRig Magic Arm with Dual Ball Heads (1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 ARRI Accessory Screws) (B&H# SM3874) features ARRI locating pins that are spring-loaded.

Q: 8. is the screw for this product 1/4" 20?

A: The Kondor Blue ARRI Rosette to Accessory Mount has a M6 mounting bolt, and held captive in place by the Arri Mount and is mounted to an Arri Rosette through the 3/8 mounting hole. You could use the bushing below to reduce the 3/8 female hole to 1/4 20. Oben 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 Reducer Bushing BH #OB1039

Q: 9. This ball head looks like it can go easily in landscape position, what about portrait position?

A: Basic answer is that I could discard all my other tripods and keep this one. It's THAT good in any position even with a heavy camera and I use D4s and D3s bodies. Camera position is very fast and simple in every dimension.

Q: 10. I asked on a RE page on FB if anyone had experience using the MagicBall. I was told that a gear head would be what is needed for RE photography. Does anyone use it for RE work?

A: It all depends on how precise you wish to be with your RE photography. If just a then/now, you can shoot with this marvelous head in roughly the same spot of the original photography. Being honest, you could just handhold the camera for causal RE photography. On the other hand, If you are contracted to analyse soil erosion, then a more precise head will likely be necessary. Here is a selection of gear heads that B&H sells. https://bhpho.to/2WuDB3i

[Black] Kondor Blue are the only mounts I use. These are sturdy and hold in place during rugged field production conditions. Nothing drives me more crazy than mounting attachments that move during a shoot and Kondor Blue takes that out of the equation. I typically use the Nato clamps for extra grip but some attachments require the 1/4 screw.

[Black] These work great. Tighten well and are easy to use in any position. They can hold a lot of weight comfortably too. My favorite part is being able to change out and customize the pieces.

[Black] Hard to believe how few 3/8 w/ ARRI locking pin arms there are on the market but these do the trick. Price could be cheaper but beggers cant be choosers.

[0.08 lb] These arms are well made, versatile, and an excellent value. I bought a more expensive arm at the same time I bought a Kondor. The Kondor was so much better, I took back the expensive one, and bought two more Kondors.

[0.08 lb] The build quality is great like other Kondor Blue products. There are quite a lot of knock offs such as Smallrig and they dont provide double 3/8/-16 with arri pins and dont sell them separately so this is the only magic arm you can get. Yeah, it's expensive but you get what you pay for and clients care about it.

[Black] At first I had weird experience with this product, but after their customer service rep made sure I understood how to use it. I 100% recommend this product. The team at small rigs go out of their way to really the end user.
