Add a professional broadcast ENG zoom lens to your EOS C300 Mark III or C500 Mark II cinema camera with the Canon CINE-SERVO 25-250mm T2.95 Lens with SS-41-IASD Kitfrom Canon. This durable lens is designed for use with EF-mount cameras featuring large-format, Super 35-sized sensors with 4K optical performance. Measuring approximately 11" long and weighing only 6.7 lb, the compact, lightweight lens is suitable for a variety of productions such as narrative to EFP/ENG or run-and-gun documentary.

The lens covers an extensive 25 to 250mm focal range while featuring a T2.95 to T3.95 aperture from wide to telephoto. Using a 1.5x extender with 10x optical zoom, the telephoto range extends to an impressive 375mm. Like the rest of its cine lens family, the zoom lens creates a soft, pleasing bokeh using an 11-blade iris and a clickless iris ring. The focus ring rotates 180° with smooth operation. An LCD screen on the lens allows you to adjust user settings and functions such as zoom speed and locking, easily configured using the integrated drive switch. This EF mount model supports Canon electronic communication, which passes metadata to your camera.

Canon has equipped the zoom lens with a servo drive unit compatible with industry-standard lens controllers, such as the broadcast ZSD-300D or FPD-400D, for full zoom, focus, and iris control. The servo drive is removable if you are shooting in a cinema style, and it can also be integrated into studio systems with its 16-bit metadata output.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this new 15-120mm lens have the macro feature of its predecessor the Canon 17-120mm? Or does it only have the extender feature?

A: The Canon CINE-SERVO 15-120mm T2.95-3.9 Zoom Lens with 1.5x Extender (PL Mount) (B&H# CAE15120PL) does indeed feature a macro function.

Q: 2. do I need a Y cable with this?

A: No. The following unit comes enclosed with 2 x IAS 20p Cables

Q: 3. How would I power this lens with a BlackMagic Broadcast G2?

A: There is a front-mounted 12-pin Hirose connector for broadcast lens control, which can also power the lens.

Q: 4. Is the 1.5 extender included in the lens?

A: Yes. 1.5x extender is built into the system.

Q: 5. I just purchased this. Can I use the zoom and focus controls at the same time? Do I need to add DC Power?

A: Yes you can. You do not need to add DC Power.

Q: 6. If the lens is closed down to a t/3.9 will there be any exposure change when zooming in or out?

A: Yes. The following unit offers maximum aperture of T2.95 and a minimum aperture of T3.95.

Q: 7. The 15-120mm focal range is on full frame sensor or super 35 sensors? If so , when using the extender, will it give you even more reach than the 22-180mm if using it on a super 35 camera ?

A: The Canon CINE-SERVO 15-120mm T2.95-3.9 Zoom Lens Kit with SS-41-IASD Servo (PL) is a full frame lens. Using it on a Super 35mm will make the lens around 1.4 times longer. And using the built in 1.5x teleconverter with that lens on a Super 35mm sensor will add another 1.5 times magnification to the lens.

Q: 8. Would this lens work with a metabones adaptor attached to a Blackmagic Design Studio 4k camera?

A: The pairing will work as long as you power the lens.

Q: 9. Would this be compatible with the Red V-Raptor with an RF-EF adaptor? If not, can you recommend a servo zoom for the Raptor?

[T3.95] This lens had been purchased to be used with a Canon C300 Mk III. It is sharp, renders beautifully and is relatively lightweight for a zoom of this magnitude. The accompanying grip, however, represents a terrible mismatch for the C300 with its own grip attached, as they come so physically close as to make either one unusable. I have removed the lens grip and have placed it back into the box that it had arrived in and I suspect that it will never see the light of day. It really is a shame, since the lens grip allows for modulated zooms that excel when compared to the controls mounted on the lens itself. In summary, I would give 5 stars for the lens, and and 0 for the grip.

[T2.95] I've had this lens for a while now and can say it's my favorite lens. Canon fixed the biggest issue I had which was a warm color shift on the 17-120. No color shifts on this lens! Flip on the built in extender and the lens can be ready for full frame. It's really the perfect lens for reality, sports, doc and most everything else.

[Canon EF] Just back from a month in Africa and first use with this lens. Canon created an incredible tool for wildlife video. Paired this with the C300MkII.
While autofocus is missing everything else is there for me. Tack shape 4K video captured directly onto CFast cards in the C300MkII meant less gear to drag along.
I occasionally used the built in extender to go to 1500mm. While tack sharp mid day shots were affected by heat waves... great for effects but not so good for capture.
While this lens is not fast (T5) I found low light captures on the C300MKII very acceptable at higher ISOs.
In short, this compact lens is fantastic. Thank you Canon.

[Canon EF] Get over the price, it is worth it. Paired with my C300ii this lens wonderful. All functions work through the EF mount including autofocus (when needed). Powered via DTap to a Vmount. Has not left my C300ii body since mounted, except for a firmware update. Really has become a all in one lens for us. Great on the shoulder ENG. Great out sticks for interviews. Even does well on a dolly remote zooming.

[10.09 lb] We do a lot of Cinema and Broadcast style shooting and this lens does both. We were concerned initially with the 180 degree focus rotation, but we got used to it fast. The macro function is amazing! We are using it with the Sony F55. When we use the 2K center crop setting, the lens FOV essentially becomes a 35-240mm lens. It's light and don't notice a lot of breathing. I can't recommend this lens enough. With the F55 it powers the servo without any additional cables and passes meta data.

[11] I am a huge fan of this lens for field docu work. Great all around piece of glass for wildlife and longer lens applications while retaining a lightweight kit one person can carry tripod and sticks.

[Yes] I do a lot of documentary shooting and this lens is all I need. It's incredibly built and extremely sharp! I use this with my C300 mkii and it's a beaut. Yes, it does add to the weight of your rig, but keeping in mind the end result. If I need anything longer, I'll have my 70-200L II ready to go. But for my needs, this lens is fantastic.

[T2.95] I have read several reviews that have taken issue with this lens being labeled as a 'cine' lens. The reviewers had not been specific about their complaints, but I have found the lens to be a much sharper renderer than its non servo, EF equivalent which I do own. With a 3rd party zoom rocker it functions smoothly. That said, when combined with a Canon C300 Mk III, its C-AF is somewhat slow, but accurate. The OIS, on the other hand, functions beautifully.

[T2.95] Saw this in Africa recently on a BBC truck on the same Canon CN20x50 Cine Lens. Mine at home did not have the handle that is made in Germany. So I called the company and they said I could get it at B&H. Wow not really a surprise since B&H has everything! Anyway this handle is a quality piece of gear for the lens. Screws are included along with simple instructions. Makes the lens much easier and, more importantly, safer to handle. Like I said, a must!
