Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this head be adapted to accept an RC2 plate?

A: Yes, you can purchase the Manfrotto clamp 323RC2; https://bhpho.to/2cjY1Xe

Q: 2. How do I remove the hot shoe adapter to use the ball head with a tripod?

A: Unfortunately, you will not be able to remove the cold shoe from this unit. You can attach a cold shoe mount with a 1/4"-20 thread. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?q=cold%20shoe%20mount%20with%201%2F4%22%20&filters=fct_bottom-mounting_3264%3A1-4in-20-female%2Cfct_top-mounting_3263%3Aaccessory-shoe

Q: 3. Is it compatible with the Sony A7III?

A: Yes it is. It has a shoe mount to attach to the top of the A7III. It also has an 8.8 pound load capacity so it could mount an A7III on top of it as well.

Q: 4. Can I mount it on my Canon 6D Mark II?

A: Yes it can. This mount has a Cold Shoe connection on the bottom of it which you can mount in to the 6D Mark II's shoe mount.

Q: 5. Which country is this made in?

A: This ball head is manufactured in China.

Q: 6. Hi, can this head be used on Monopod, Manfrotto 290 Aluminum Monopod? Thanks.

A: Yes, that head can work on most Monopods. It has a 3/8 female thread. If the monopod does not have a 3/8 thread then you will need a bushing like this, Wimberley BS-100 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 Brass Reducer Bushing MFR #BS-100 • BH #WIBS100

Q: 7. will this work for my canon 5d mark iv with 24-70mm lens? do i need something else or does it screw right into the base of the camera?

A: In most use cases this would be sufficient for a Canon 5D Mk IV with a 24-70 f/2.8 (approximately 3.5lbs), but on an uneven surface or at an angle, the resulting torque from the camera/lens combination might overpower the ballhead. With your specific combination, I would also advise against using the Manfrotto 259B extension as it would result in a very high center of gravity, making it prone to tipping over. The camera simply screws into the Manfrotto 492 ball head, but you could consider a quick release system like the Manfrotto 323 to simplify/speed up the mounting process: https://bhpho.to/39OdhHl

Q: 8. Is the round, padded mounting platform "attached" to the screw, so one can loosen the ball, then use the platform as a "handle" to tighten the screw to the device? Or, must one tighten the ball and rotate the device or entire head to tighten?

A: The platform can be unscrewed from the stem, rotating the head to screw into the camera is the best solution.

Q: 9. Can I mount Sony A7s III and Atomos ninja V with this?

A: Yes, you can.

Q: 10. what thread is on the bottom?

A: The threading on the bottom of this head is 3/8 16". This head will also come with a reducer bushing to be placed on 1/4 20".

[Ball Head] I used this ball head on a monopod to steady my shots, seems to work very well!

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] I'm a freelance videographer and have owned several ball-head shoe adapters for my 7 camera display, but all have fallen short for one reason or another. They either loosen regularly or are difficult to adjust on the fly. Some require a hex head wrench to tighten to the cold shoe and/or to adjust the ball head's position. The Manfrotto 492 is well made, easy to use and it's large knob makes adjusting and tightening a mounted display fool-proof. Plus, it looks professional. I'm pleased with this purchase even though it was considerably more expensive than smaller units.

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] Most small ball heads are cheaply made. Not this one. Quality locking screw that can be adjusted to allow drag or lock.

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] This unit is durable and priced right. I use it for a Panasonic GH% or a Ninja Inferno. I really like it and highly recommend it if you need a small tripod.

[Ball Head] Don't be fooled by its small size. This thing is *sturdy*! Impressive build quality, just what you'd expect from Manfrotto.

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] It's an order of magnitude better than cheaper and lighter knockoffs. You can position a 9 monitor with battery at any angle and it will stay there on a moving camera. Can't say that about the other mounts, and I've tried them all.

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] As usual, you get what you pay for. This Ball Head mount is 4x more expensive than some cheaper options, but it may just be 4x better. Others often have some wiggle, even after you secure them, especially when use with heavy weight items, like a 5 monitor with battery. This Manfrotto is solid. Zero shifting once you've locked it in place, even with heavier loads. I often run as a one man operation, so I just need gear to be locked in and reliable, I don't have the time or manpower to constantly make adjustments. For me Manfrotto has always been worth the price. This is my second one of these, and the first has been rock solid for years.
