  • This pair of ZPC-1s is matched at both 1 kHz and 100 Hz, allowing the mics to seamlessly work together to capture the most accurate stereo recording possible using various configurations.
  • You can use them in an XY pattern to capture a clear center image with a tight stereo spread or as spaced pair in an AB pattern for a wider, immersive sonic image.

  • The mics' cardioid polar patterns focus audio capture on the sound source in front of each mic while picking up less sound from the back and sides.
  • With the ability to handle SPLs up to 134 dB, the mics can be placed close to the source for nuanced recordings requiring definition and detail.
  • 48V phantom power is required to power each electret-condenser mic capsule.

  • With a solid-metal body design and included foam windscreens (with rubber-ring openings for a tight fit), both mics are durable and ready for use in any environment—indoor and outdoor.
  • The ZPC-1 pair can be used to capture sound in the field with any portable Zoom recorder, such as the F3.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I connect these directly to my Zoom F3 ( since the NT5 has Male 3 Pin XLR) or do I need an XLR connector?

A: Although the Rode NT5 Cardioid Studio Condenser Microphones have XLR male connections onboard, their form factor would not allow them to be connected directly to the inputs on the Zoom F3 Portable Field Recorder. The NT5 should make connection to the F3's inputs via standard 3-Pin XLR cable.

Q: 2. Is this Microphone can be hanging from the ceiling as well?

A: You can, but it is not intended to be hung from the ceiling. You may want to consider the Astatic 2600VP for a high quality hanging mic: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/754716-REG/Astatic_2600VP_Variable_Polar_Pattern_Hanging.html

Q: 3. Is this one mic capsule and one pre or a stereo set of 2 capsules and 2 pres ?

A: Based on the manual and information I am finding on this, this is only 1 mic capsule. It is timbrally identical with the other 8000-series microphones for optimum aural compatibility, so that you can capture a group of instruments in the same way that you would use a stereo pair of mics.

Q: 4. Will the matched pair still be a matched pair if I replace it with two NT45-O omnidirectional capsules?

A: If you replace one of the RODE NT5 Cardioid Studio Condenser Microphones in a matched pair, it should be very close, but may not be identical to the other mic.

Q: 5. Will this connect to an iPad USB?

A: Not directly. You would need mic cables, and a two channel audio interface for an iPad, such as B&H # IKIRIGPRODUO. Please note this setup is best used for recording audio in stereo. Any attempt to live stream would result in a single channel mono pickup, not stereo.

Q: 6. Will these be better for indoor dialogue than an rode ntg 2 ?

A: Only in one regard. The NTG2 is a shotgun microphone, which means it is directional because it has an interference tube. Surfaces nearby (such as a ceiling several inches away) that reflect sound can defeat the interference tube, causing more background noise than expected to be recorded. For this reason, shotgun microphones are discouraged for indoor dialog. The C02 does not have an interference tube, so it does not have this problem. It is very directional, and it is a good fit for using on a boom for indoor dialog, even near sound-reflecting surfaces. That said, both the C02 and the NTG2 are a little weak in their ability to pick up the lowest and highest sound frequencies, but the NTG2 seems to be a little better in this regard.

Q: 7. Would these be suitable for entry level field recording, such as nature sounds?

A: Yes you can use the Zoom ZPC-1 Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphones (Matched Pair) for entry level recording of nature sounds.

Q: 8. Is this a stereo set for $1,200?

A: Yes, this is a stereo set.

Q: 9. What size thread are the included shock mounts?

A: The shock mounts that are included with the Samson C02 Pencil Condenser Microphones have a 5/8"-27 thread.

Q: 10. Are these compatible with the Poly Trio 8300?

A: The Poly Trio 8500 Expansion Microphones (Pair), B&H # PORPTRIOXMBK, is compatible with the Poly Trio 8300.

[Cardioid] I read reviews that suggested that for the price, these are good mics. Yikes, at double the price, these would still be good mikes for the price. Great for starters, fantastic as a set for interviews

[1.435 lb] On the few occasions that I've used these small diaphragm microphones they've always surprised me with their detail and clarity. I can't exactly attest to the EIN level of 12dB A-Weighted (from Zooms own website) but I can't detect any self noise through normal usage. Most recently I've recorded a popcorn tin can being struck (for a virtual instrument) and the cans resonance/sustain was best picked up by the ZPC-1. Additionally I placed a single ZPC-1 in a blimp windshield, recorded a grass cutter, and was easily able to hear the tiny rocks being picked up and flung by the grass cutter at a distance of about 10 feet. Needless to say I'm very happy with my purchase!

[1.435 lb] I am trying to get setup for semi-professional video creation and wanted to generate good quality audio. After watching a lot of mic reviews, I decided to order a pair of the Samson C02 mics. While these are sold as instrument (drums, acoustic guitar, etc) many people have given them favorable reviews for dialog and even live action. Having received mine, I have done a number of tests both for inside dialog as well as taking them outside to check their sensitivity with ambient sound. I am using a Sound Devices mixer so the whole sound chain is pretty quiet, and I did not hear very much self-noise from these mics while they were able to pick up very faint sounds outdoor such as leaves rustling and birds chirping. They are somewhat directional but certainly not in the same way as a proper shotgun mic. All in all I am very glad I purchased these and I expect them to be with me for a good while.
