Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you please tell me how thick this is?

A: This mat board is 2-Ply / 30 Pt. (approximately 1/32) thick.

Q: 2. Is the surface smooth, like hot press, or slightly pebbly, like cold press?

A: These boards have a smooth surface.

Q: 3. Is 8x10 the size of the back board or the size of the window? I am thinking the size of the back board, but would like to be sure. Thanks.

A: Its the size of the whole board. There are no windows.

Q: 4. How many mats(front and back) come in an order and are the mats reusable?

A: One by one. If you need front and back you should order 2. Well, if you don't care about very little stains or something then you might use it again but I don't suggest that way since it is not made to do so. Especially if it's for the exhibition, definitely not.

Q: 5. How thick is this board exactly? I'm looking for something to dry mount ink jet photographs.

A: Hi Brittany -- I use this for mounting traditional photos. It is not rigid, it will bend, but it is solid enough to support your prints as long as you mat and frame them. I wouldn't use it for mounting prints without a mat.Hope this helps.Russ

Q: 6. Which kind of tape should I use with this product (to close the mat)? Thanks!

A: I use Scotch double sied removable scrapbooking tape. It is photo safe and conforms to ASTM D4236 and ISO 18916. It comes in a roll (in a scotch tape like dispenser) 1.2 in x 300 in. The removal of the top protective backing is a bit of an art. Since the mats have hinges, you need not worry about that. Lineco makes self adhesive hinging tissue. Can go to a hobby store and purchase these.

Q: 7. Is there acid in these mats or the linen tape? If so, how much does that effect the longevity of the photos I would mount? Thanks!

A: The Archival Methods Bright White Pre-Cut Exhibition Mat (11 x 14" Board for 8.5 x 11" Print, 5-Pack) is archival material. The mat is made of 100% cotton fiber that is acid- and lignin-free, and incorporates alkaline or neutral sizing, and the linen tape is a pH-neutral water-activated adhesive.

Q: 8. Hi how many gsm is this board?

A: 120 GSM.

Q: 9. Can i stick the print straight in this board? I mean normally people make a window and mount it on board as a frame? I just want to make my prints last long a d stick on sturdy media which i can cut to size on board cutters. Please suggest me a product

A: You can certainly stick prints directly to the Archival Methods 4-Ply Pearl White Conservation Mat Board.

Q: 10. What does 2 ply mean

A: it means thickness - the more plys the thicker and stronger (more firm) the matt - 2 ply is very good - 4 ply is better but a lot more expensive - never had an issue with 2 ply

[1/8" / 3.2 mm] I purchased these presentation kits to get some large format prints ready for an upcoming artisan fair. The quality is great. The package has everything needed to hinge the backboard to the mat. I didn't use the included cut back corners, because I prefer to mount the prints with hinging tape as well. But I'm sure the corners would work just fine for many people. The kit even has a clear protective bag for the finished product.

[0.83 lb] Worked well for my 13x19 photo paper size, 11x17 printed area (centered), giving 0.75 space around printed area (12.5x18.5 mat opening). Placed 18x24 mat/board combo in 18x24 frame.

[1/8" / 3.2 mm] I am a member of several camera clubs. Each month we have friendly competitions. The requirements include having the image matted. These archival mats look very professional. They are easy to use and, if I want to (which I don't often) I can reuse them. Using this product is so much easier than cutting form core board, using the dry mount and then cutting the mat, particularly for submissions like for the camera clubs.
