Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the threaded connection on the bottom 5/8" ? I didn't see it listed on the product page.

A: the bottom of this boom arm is designed to fit into an existing mic stand, the 5/8" thread listed is at the top on the boom arm, to allow for industry standard a mic clip/holder for a microphone.

Q: 2. Could the Boom Arm hold the Amaran 300c RGB LED Monolight with an Aputure Lantern 90 (3') attached to it?

A: The Impact Boom Arm (Chrome-plated, 86") at full extension is not strong enough to hold the Amaran 300c RGB LED Monolight with an Aputure Lantern 90 (3') attached. The setup is over 8 lb and the boom at full extension supports no more than 8 lb.

Q: 3. How is this arm compared to the GVM360 boom arm?

A: The GVM360 offers a better locking system. The the impact unit and includes stand with purchase.

Q: 4. What is the difference between the Manfrotto 085B and 085BS, in regards to the boom arm only?

A: The 085BS replaces the no longer available 085B. I believe the only difference in the boom arms was the color and the length. If memory serves me correctly the 085B has a 7' silver boom and the 085BS has a 9' black boom. They are both three section arms with the same counterweight and spigot. While I've never owned the 085B I do own the 085BS and can au the stand and the boom arm are extremely sturdy and hold up very well.

Q: 5. Will this work atop a Manfrotto 5001 stand with the 124 clamp?

A: The 5001B stand is way too small to securely support a boom arm, pivot clamp, and whatever you are going to put on the end of the arm. And the top section of tubing is too thin to accept the 124 pivot clamp.I would suggest you go with a stand like the 1052BAC or similar.

Q: 6. Is it possible to remove the rotating stand mount from the boom arm?

A: The impact base boom does allow a end-user to remove the mount to be fine tune but we do not suggest doing so.

Q: 7. Will this be able to support the weight of a "Shure SM7B" (1.69 lb / 766.57 g)?

A: Yes; this boom arm, placed on a stand includes a counter weitht, which will balane an SM7B, no problem.

Q: 8. Im thinking about buying it to use with a Selens 75' (12.05 pounds). Does this arm will hold it?

A: The maximum load capacity of the Manfrotto 085BS Heavy-Duty Boom and Stand at full extension is 13.2 lbs (6kg) with the included 15 lbs (7kg) counterweight. If you use a larger counterweight or use the boom arm at a shorter distance (not at full extension), it can support more weight. As you state your setup weighs 12.05 lbs, it should be compatible for use with the Manfrotto 085BS Heavy-Duty Boom and Stand at full extension.

Q: 9. Does it come with a 5/8"-27 male threaded end for a microphone clip or an adapter for that?

A: No, the Impact Boom Arm would have a 5/8" stud for lighting. To allow for a microphone to fit, you can use the CAMVATE 5/8" Light Stand Head with 5/8"-27 Screw for Microphone Clip Stand, BH # CAC2950. http://bit.ly/3AlsoVd

Q: 10. Can this be attached to a "K&M 260 Straight Microphone Stand (Black)"?

A: On the K&M 260 straight stand, removing the pole extension fromn the base would allow the boom to be inserted into the 260.

[15.54 lb] I love this boom. I use it for an audio-technical 2035 mic around my desk zoom meetings and for music recording. The weight of this mic does not cause the arm to fall at all - rock steady, unlike my cheaper boom arm I am replacing. Easy to get tight, and adjust the length. Great unit in the intermediate price range. If you extend the boom length out to near its max, the extended thiner tube can drop down a bit, as very little of extended tube is within the outer tube it slides in at this extension. Stays put, but doesn't look as nice. Something to keep in mind if you need the full extension.

[Steel] I walked into the store to purchase a cheap boom arm for another band mates microphone stand. The store associate steered me away from the cheaper option to this one, which was less than $10 more. Although I'm happy with the boom arm form my mic stand, I was a little jealous of this one once I checked it out. It's great quality for just a little more money. I will by buying K&M again.

[Hardware] I needed some short booms to replace some 3 footers that were adding to stage clutter. These short ones did the trick and the quality was topnotch.

[Steel] If you have a venue or practice space, janky mic cheap stands will just accumulate naturally. Transform them into pro mic stands with these. Works well with the on stage tripod stand bases, and the round, cast iron bases. I like the telescoping bit, most of the time it’s good collapsed, for guitar playing singers, and it is a little less distracting visually from the full length boom. Generally only need to telescope it out to get out over a big pedalboard. They don’t seem quite as heavy duty as the older k&m stands or DR stands, but I haven’t had any break in 6 years or so since I got these from B&H.
