The 72mm Slim Multicoated Circular Polarizer Filterfrom 72mm Slim Multicoated Circular Polarizer Filterreduces reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. A polarizing filter arranges and filters this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light, resulting in a reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for high resolution and color fidelity and has eight layers of nano-multicoating on each glass surface to prevent internal ghosting and reflections and optimize light transmission. The surface is also water resistant for easy cleaning and for use in inclement environments and locations. It features a slim, 5mm-wide aluminum alloy filter ring, so it can be used with ultra-wide-angle lenses without vignetting. The filter ring can be rotated to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect and has a 72mm front thread for adding additional filters, lens hoods, or other lens accessories.

Q: 1. Zeiss or Hoya HD3 CP? They are about equal in price, but which is the better filter for Sony f/2.8 24-70?

A: A lens filter is made of the glass, the filter material, the ring and the coatings. The quality of each determines the quality of the filter. Both of these filters, ZEISS 82mm Carl ZEISS T* Circular Polarizer Filter B&H # ZEPOLF82 and the Hoya 82mm HD3 Circular Polarizer Filter B&H # HOCPHD382 are the best the manufacturers can make and they are of the best you can get for your lens and camera. Saying which is best is like which is better, a BMW or a Lexus? You will not go wrong with either of these beautifully made, thin profiled (no vignetting) optically perfect Polarizers. The only difference is the Zeiss does the normal 1.5 stop loss for a Pola whereas the Hoya claims only a 1.25 stop loss. For the vast majority of shooting situations with a Pola, I think that negligible but in certain situations it could be a valuable asset. You might be the type who likes to standardize on filter brands in which case since Hoya makes only filters, they do have a larger variety. Then again, maybe you only want one or two filters. Have fun.

Q: 2. Is there a lens cap or cover that I can put on this Zeiss 95mm Circular Polarizer Filter to protect it while I have it attached to my Zeiss Milvus 15mm/2.8 lens? The Zeiss Milvus lens cap (or a Nikon 95mm lens cap) does not snap on to the front of this polarizer filter.

A: The Lens Cap for the Milvus 2.8/15 lens does fit to the ZEISS 95mm Polarizing filter.

Q: 3. What is the filter thickness?

A: This slim polarizing filter is approximately 3/8", similar to a single layer filter like a UV filter.

Q: 4. Difficult to compare without actual purchase. Ex, compared to Formatt Hitech 67mm Firecrest SuperSlim Circular Polarizer Filter.....(for 67mm variant)....which has a thinner metal ring thickness? Which has a higher light transmission?

A: The Formatt Hitech would be a slightly thinner filter, but the NiSi would have higher light transmission.

Q: 5. Will the Olympus hood for the Olympus 75mm f/1.8 Lens fit over this filter?

A: I am not familiar with this particular lens but as far as I know any 58mm lens cap will fit.I had no problem with my Canon 58mm lens cap.

Q: 6. Does it fit with the lens hood on?

A: Yes.

Q: 7. will this work with the canon 28-70mm f2 lens?

A: Yes :) The 28-70 f/2L USM takes 95mm filters.

Q: 8. Would this work with the Nikon Z 14-30 mm at 14 mm without vignetting?

A: I'm sorry for the worthlessly late reply. I don't know. I do know that my Heliopan "slim" filter for my Zeiss 15mm on my Nikon D800 has no vignetting.

Q: 9. For what is this filter so expensive?

A: ZEISS, ZEISS,ZEISS ... you get what you pay for. If you want to see true color stop using Nikon glass and purchase a Zeiss lens

Q: 10. This product is listed as having 'slim profile', but would it be suitable for a Fujifilm XF 14mm lens?

A: The Zeiss filter would be too thick. I would recommend this B+W filter instead. Please see the following link:http://bhpho.to/1uxPx0aThe B+W filter is the same thickness but the ring is pushed out wider so there is less rick of vignetting.

[Aluminum] I used this filter on an original Leica Q and it works very good, doesn't flare or create vignettes in my pictures.
Quality is what you would expect from Zeiss which is a pretty high standard, metal construction, turns smoothly, high quality glass.

[72 mm] Even though this filter is very expensive, it is worth it to me. The build quality and operation are excellent. The polarizer ring turns very smoothly, and is a pleasure to use versus some the cheaper polarizing filters I have. The optical quality is also top notch. Basically an excellent product. It just comes down to if you want to pay a premium for it.

[0.13 lb] I got this to pair with a Tokina 14-20mm f/2.0 EF-S lens. It does a great job and the lens sharpness doesn't suffer noticeably from the extra glass. One downside is that if there is a strong light source like the sun in the frame, it causes some nasty circular flares in the image, but this is a problem with every other filter I've used as well, so I'm not sure I'd ding it a star for that.

[72 mm] Bought this filter for a 28mm Leitz Biogon lens on a range finder camera. Density scale in the lens makes it a snap to use -- not to mention that it's absolutely necessary to have it since one is not looking through the lens to see how much polarization one is getting.

[Aluminum] Solidly built. High quality glass. Effectively cuts haze, reflections, and glare. Works exactly as it should. I've owned a few other polarizer filters and this one by Zeiss is obviously a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.

[0.13 lb] I'm honestly surprised at how good this Polarizer is for the money. No discernible color shift or noticeable sharpness loss on my copy and it just does what it's says it's supposed to.

[Aluminum] Very neutral in color and easy to clean. Not super thin, but thin. I do not see in most cases any negative effects when I use this filter. I wish it was anti-static but it does not seem to attract dust.
