The STC-20 Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone with All-in-One Recording Package from Sontronics is a comprehensive mic setup designed to provide musicians, producers, and engineers with quality vocal recording capabilities without breaking the bank. At the center of the kit is the British-designed STC-20 microphone, featuring a 1" gold-sputtered diaphragm that's ready to capture a wide range of vocal and instrumental performances and deliver smooth and natural recordings. The mic offers a cardioid polar pattern that helps reduce background sound and focuses pick up on the talent in front of the the capsule.

Also provided is a shockmount to isolate the microphone from vibrations and reduce low-frequency hum and handling noise for cleaner, more professional recordings. In addition, the included pop filter reduces breaths and plosives in words with prevalent "P" and "B" sounds for clearer sounding vocals with less distracting noise to worry about in the mix. The included XLR cable lets you connect the mic to preamps and recording equipment, and a pouch is provided for storage and travel.

Q: 3. how long is cord?

A: While the manufacturer does not specify the length of the cable, a picture in the manual would suggest 12''-18'' estimated length.

Q: 4. The female to 2x male XLR cable seems short. Is it meant to be just an adapter? I would be connecting the mic to a MIxPre-3 II.

A: Just buy yourself 2 XLR cables 10 to 15 ft and just use this as an extender with the cables the Rode NT4 comes with.

Q: 5. Does Rode make any mics that have a built in interface?

A: Rode does offer several USB mics but they do not have a stereo X/Y style USB mic. You can use the NT4 with a dual-input USB interface such as the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (B&H # FOSCARL2I23G) to connect it to a computer. The included Y-cable for the mic has two 3-pin XLR connectors that will connect to each channel on the interface. Q: 9. Your website says that the NTK comes with a 6072 tube. I thought it came with a 6922 tube?

A: We stand corrected. According to RODE: Hand selected and graded 6922 twin-triode valve . Thanks for pointing this out.

Q: 10. "You can power the mic with 48V phantom power." This sentence is in the description for this product. I don't understand. Is it necessary to buy an additional accessory to use this mic?

A: In order to use this mic, you will need a mixer, interface, or hardware recorder with an XLR mic input, and the ability to provide 48v phantom power. As well, you would need an XLR mic cable to connect it to either of those sources, a mic stand to attach it to, and a pop filter if recording vocals.

[Solid-State] Good microphone set for recording guitar and voice. The AT2020 is a little on the heavy side so, if you use a boom microphone stand, be sure it's a good quality stand that can support it.

[Mono] I have a different mic to capture dialogue and more finite audio needs, but I snagged this to run as a secondary mic to help capture the sound of the space and use that audio to help in post production. Its great for that, but I probably wouldn't use this as a main mic.

[Phantom Power] bought this for a small home project studio. Very cheap for 2 condenser mics. A/B these mics against shure sm27 condenser. Both me and my kid liked the 2020 better, felt it was clearer and more realistic sounding on both voice and acoustic guitar. The 2021 sounded thinner with less bottom end. We'll use them on drums, guitar cabinets.

[Mono] 2020 - Smooth lows, crisp highs, and natural midrange. A fantastic mic at a very good value. 2021 - Excellent for highs and midrange. Unfortunally gets overwhelmed easily by lows. However, for most of its applications that is not a problem.

[Mono] I'm using the microphones for ADR and Foley on a short film project I'm doing. They've performed fantastically - and integrated with my Zoom H4N (Note: You'll need to provide Phantom Power).

[Cardioid] I bought two of these packages so I would have the two medium condenser mics along with some other medium and large condenser mics for up close recording of individual instruments and use the two pencil mics to capture the stereo image from back in the audience. These two mics in this package do not disappoint -- the aural quality and clarity is great and considering the price they are phenomenal.
