Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Why this lens is not compatible with FF lens? 200, 300, and 560 are fully compatible with FF base on tests and those lenses were made base on FF film lenses

A: B&H information is incorrect. It has been confirmed directly with Pentax and indirectly with practical usage by many users that this lens is in fact entirely compatible with a FF sensor.

Q: 2. Are there any scratches on the front or rear glass elements?

A: The Pentax SMCP-DA* 300mm f/4 ED (IF) SDM Autofocus Lens for Digital SLR is a brand-new lens with a 1-year warranty--it's in perfect condition with no scratches anywhere.

Q: 3. I know this says it's for CF cards. I'm looking for a case that will hold the smaller SD cards in their plastic cases. Do you think the SD case would fit in the pockets of this wallet?

A: Certainly! THis is the reason I got this card case. Just leave/put the cards in their plastic cases and put the cases in the card folder.

Q: 4. If I use this 300mm f/4 SDM lens on my Pentax K-x DSLR body, does it matter whether the camera is set to AF or MF? Will the choice of manual vs. auto focusing always be determined by the AF/MF setting on the lens? I am confused about the focusing behavior of the camera body and lens combination since both have an AF/MF switch.

A: The focus controls are typically determined by the settings on the lens.

Q: 5. Will the 1.4 Pentax teleconverter auto focus with the DA* 300 mm lens? I have read that with settings F4 and higher - auto focus won't work.

A: Sorry for the late respoe. This message was in my 'junk' folder and I'm just seeing it now.anyway,..... fwiw, I have had no problems with AF when using the 1.4 converter together with the DA 300.good luck.

Q: 6. Is the tripod collar removable?

A: The tripod collar on the Pentax SMCP-DA* 300mm f/4 ED (IF) SDM Autofocus Lens for Digital SLR is removable.

Q: 7. Given the warning I am assuming this won't work with the new Pentax K-1?

A: I have the K-1 and it works great with it! The lens is FF compatible.

Q: 8. Does it accurately autofocus throughout the expected range?

A: Yes Pentax SMCP-DA* 300mm f/4 ED (IF) SDM Autofocus Lens for Digital SLR can autofocus well as close as 4.59 feet to infinity.

Q: 9. Does this come with a case?

A: It comes with a soft case

Q: 10. How does the manual focus ring work with this on, if it is one piece? How will it rotate?

A: The individual LensCoat pieces don't bind at the edges, so I've had no issues with using the manual focus at all. Actually the hardest thing to operate are the switches, but you have to expect that if you're going to cover and protect them.

A nice item I got  for half price when buying my rain cover through B&H. It is quite large but it works with both my Nikon 200-400 and 200-500. A bit big but cinch it tight and it works fine. I cannot see letting this dangle when shooting in the rain. It would get soaked and you certainly dont want it back on your big glass if it is wet. I see this being used and then stashed in a  pocket or camera case until needed again to keep your lens dry.

I love these caps for hiking, especially on the seashore, protecting my big lenses from harsh elements. Easy to put on and take off. Hang it on the camera strap with the included short leash when not in use. Super!
