Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the difference between the Max-4 and the Max-5?

A: The MAX-5 is a little more subtle in terms of color saturation. Less browns more tan, like reeds, etc...

Q: 2. Can you use this while sitting in your car, shooting out the window? Will it mold to the door frame inside and out?

A: Yes this would be perfect for using over a car door or partly open window or throwing over a branch. The LensCoat LensSack Junior Beanbag Camera Support will take the shape of just about anything you lay it on.

Q: 3. It has been said by Bryan Carnathan from The Digital Picture site that this lens may suffer from focus shift between f/2.8 and f/11. Since I will be using this lens for insect photography, I would like to know if anyone noticed this problem?

A: Like many still camera lenses compared to Cine lenses focus shift should be expected.

Q: 4. What is the actual focal length at 1x? At 1.4x? We all know any number of 70-200 zooms from the past that as successive generations of updates claimed closer minimum focus distances, that was achieved by making the long (nominally 200mm end) reduced, sometime by a lot - say to 120mm or so.

A: Canon claims the actual focal length of the Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens is 100mm at 1X and 1.4X magnification.

Q: 5. The Eos R7 is not a full frame camera. Do I have trouble focusing on close-ups (plant, insect, face)? Because this lens is a mirrorless lens designed for full frame camera. Is the focus area narrow?

A: When using this lens on a Canon R7 it will have a crop factor of 1.6x. This will make the equivalent focal length 160mm. This will have no effect on the minimum focus distance though, which will remain 10.2".

Q: 6. Would this lens be suitable for scanning 35mm film negatives on a full frame RF mount camera?

A: Yes, the Canon RF 100mm f/2.8 L Macro IS USM lens would be a great choice for film scanning. The lens has a 10" minimum focusing distance, which allows you to an individual frame with a little allowance for sprocket holes when photographing/scanning.

Q: 7. Is the regular weight very heavy or should I consider the lightweight version?

A: I have the regular and it is only 2.3 lbs

Q: 8. will this lens work with the RF teleconverters?

A: No. This lens does not work with Canon RF-Mount Teleconverters.

Q: 9. What is the best size LensCoat LensSack beanbag for use with a Nikon 200-500mm lens: Junior or full size?

A: I watched a video on this and the smaller bag seems to be the right size for that lens. LensCoat has the video. And Id think if youre shopping for bean bag supports, youd know this isnt a bag or case...lol

Q: 10. Is this waterproof?

A: no, although the store has a waterproof version

[0.125 lb] Once the lens is on my camera, I leave the hood on and use this as my lens cap. Best and easiest way to work.

[0.125 lb] Bought this for my heavy duty Gitzo 4 series tripod. I use it with a Canon 600mm and it makes it very easy and comfy to carry the tripod with the lens/camera on it from location to location.

[0.125 lb] I really like these instead of using a lens cap. My wide angle has a built in hood so the lens cap is actually two parts - it is a pain to get on and off. These are easy and they stay put plus adds some bump protection for the end of the lens too. Cost a tad more than a cap.

[0.125 lb] Works as intended -- I don't carry a super heavy rig (Gitzo Series 2, Canon 5D Mark IV with battery grip, Canon 100-400 mm II zoom) but this pad does the job and even fits my smaller tripod legs (recommended for Gitzo Series 3,4,5) without coming off. Won't use it often but is great when you need it.

[0.125 lb] There is not much to review about a Lens Hood Cover, except that it provides adequate protection, in my case it fits perfectly on the Sigma 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 DG HSM II Lens at a reasonable price.
The reason I purchased it is the original Sigma Lens Hood Cover is a constant struggle to remove & put on the lens.
I will only use it when actually going in the field to photograph since it is made of a material therefore not sure if there may be issues with fungus if used as a permanent (long term) replacement for the original plastic Lens Hood cover.
