Benro designed this WH15 Long Lens Wildlife Head for those who regularly shoot with long telephoto or zoom lenses, like sports and wildlife photographers. It has a load capacity of 33.1 pounds, making it well suited for even full frame DSLRs with long prime telephoto lenses. The head features dual panning functions so you can pan from the base with the adjustable pan friction, or if required the quick release platform can also be independently rotated. The head features friction control for both pan and tilt functions along with eight selectable settings to counterbalance the tilt. These selectable settings allow the head to remain in position without having to lock it.

The sliding Arca-type quick release plate helps balance equipment on the head, has a classic locking-knob design, and features an index scale for precise, repeatable results. It also has safety screw cutouts to prevent a loosened plate from accidentally releasing too soon.

The WH15 has a three-section pan handle that you can extend to suit your application, and you can mount it to either side of the head for right- or left-handed use. The handle can also be removed and used as a selfie stick.

Q: 1. Can the center column be inverted to mount the camera under the tripod?

A: Yes, the center column on this tripod can be inverted to mount the camera below.

Q: 2. Can the tripod be used without a center column? (Camera attached to base)

A: You can't use it without a center column, however it does come with a shorter center column that you can use in place of the larger one that is currently on it.

Q: 3. Can I attach this to Peak Design tripod? I will be using the Z9 with 100-400 on it if possible.

A: By default, the Benro WH15 Long Lens Wildlife Head would not be able to mount to Peak Design tripods, but if you get the Peak Design Universal Head Adapter (B&H # PEUHDADPT), you would be able to adapt the WH15 to them.

Q: 4. Is anyone using the RRS BH-55 with the Benro TMA38CL tripod ? If so any issue with 77mm Ball base vs the tripod mounting plate dia of 56 mm ?

A: This combination works very well. The plate mount on the BH-55 is Arca type size making the 77mm ball base irrelevant.

A: The thread size is 3/8" and it is carbon fiber.

Q: 6. Hi, is this compatible with Benro S8 head?

A: No, the S8 does not have an arca-type release. You need to stay with the Benro plate system: https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1026243-REG target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1026243-REG/a

A: Yes, the center column on this tripod can be inverted to mount the camera below.

[90°] Tremendous tripod solid in all respects. In addition to that the package includes a short center column. It is also easy to use and adjust highly recommended.

[Yes] I bought this tripod to solve some negatives associated with the top-notch tripod I have used for 5 years. After careful consideration I purchased this to replace my FEISOL Elite Tripod CT-3472LV Mark 2 Rapid with Leveling Center Column. As a commercial photographer I carry my equipment on a cart when I work on-site so a couple of extra pounds is an asset rather than a challenge. The Feisol center column inevitably tilted during photographing clients which was distracting; also the carbon tripod just seemed top-heavy with a big lens portrait camera on it so I felt uneasy about having clients accidentally tip it over during busy shoots. The third challenge with the carbon is the necessity of sending it back to have the plastic compression rings replaced twice in 5 years. I have used the Benro for a couple of jobs so far and am delighted with it. I am using a Swiss-Arca head on it. The tripod is rock solid and does not tilt during a job. When I step away I don't worry about the compression rings giving out and am less concerned about a customer accidentally tipping it over as they walk by.

[Pan & Tilt Head] Substantial tripod with well designed ergonomics. I was hoping that the wildlife head would provide the same functionality as my Wimberley head but at first blush, it is not an exact replacement. The head is wonderful for video and locks easily for stills. Panning for slower moving subjects is a breeze. For faster, erratic moving subjects, the least resistance in the fluid head may provide too much resistance for these types of subjects. I've not had the tripod/head long enough to fully validate my previous statement but I suspect there will be instances where a gimbal head would be easier to use. For most of my needs, the tripod/head is perfect - I sold my Wimberley.

[90°] I am a bird photographer who, like many of us, is branching out into video. There are excellent tripod heads for still wildlife photography, including various gimbals and also spring-loaded ballheads that simulate the weightless performance of a gimbal. For me, the problem has been that video requires smooth panning, and this is difficult to achieve with tripod heads designed for still cameras. For video one can use a fluid head, but these lack the counterbalance feature that allows the camera/lens rig to stay put without tightening the head. Enter the Benro WH15. It has a variable, dial-it-in counterbalance feature that allows weightless performance, while also exhibiting the smoothness of a fluid head. Hence, the Benro H15 is a tripod head that is close to ideal for both still and video wildlife photography. The Arca-type tripod mount rotates 360 degrees so you can use the head either for long lenses or for an on-camera mounting plate. It also has a (partly) retractable handle, which is helpful for smooth movement when shooting video. The one thing it will not do is allow full three-dimensional instead of just two-axis pan-tilt movement. If you can live with this limitation, plus also its three pound weight and its hefty price tag, it is a nearly ideal tripod head for wildlife photography and videography. It's beautifully made and claims a 33 pound plus weight capacity. I think it's a terrific product, and I expect it will inspire competing products of its type over the next few years.

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] Needed something for Sinar 4X5, but also needed to able to take it outdoors. For the good price, it comes with a sturdy case, interchangeable spike/rubber feet, weight capacity to hold the the camera on the heavy duty Slik pan & tilt head, and it's steady. With only two sections extended, the camera is at head height, and very stable.

[Yes] Bought to mount PTZ cameras that can be easily moved for live event recording. Very light weight and easy to use.

Only downside is in order to take out the center pole, you have to unscrew the hook at the bottom. Not an issue enough to rate less than 5 stars, tho. Just being thorough.

[Yes] Had a cheap tripod.. Really jittery for astrophotography. Bought this tripod and made a such a difference. Glad I purchased it. Watched and read some informative videos and articles on how important your tripod is. Different types, styles and made out of different materials etc. Definitely wasn’t worth spending 70 dollars on my first on. Got me by at the beginning but trying out now types of photography I definitely needed the upgrade. I am tall so I opted for the taller version. Also keeps the Tamron 150-500 very steady!
