Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with a Nikon D3100?

A: YES.

Q: 2. Is this lens internal, or external zoom ?

A: external. the zoom is a little stiff actually

Q: 3. Will this also fit the L mount version of this lens?

A: Yes easyCover Lens Oak Neoprene Cover for Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports Lens (Sony E, Forest Camo) also works for the L mount version of the lens.

Q: 4. How does it compare to the Tamron 150 - 600 G2?

A: The Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 lens is generally considered to be sharper, but more expensive than this Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary lens. Otherwise, the both give you the same zoom range and same minimum aperture range, so the difference is the glass and price.

Q: 5. Has anyone used the lens for photographing birds in flight? Two people who claim to be familiar with the lens said that it does not focus fast enough for BIF photography. Also that there is image degradation past a focal length of 500mm

A: I have used this fabulous lens (with the equally necessary USB dock) for many in flight Eagles and Herons, handheld, at 600mm (on a crop sensor Canon). With Terns in flight, I personally had a hard time handheld finding them before they hit the water, more operator error than lens issue. I have MANY gorgeous photos of hummingbirds at 600 mm from this lens also...I would say it takes about 40 hours of using this lens, attuned to your camera through the USB dock system, to really grasp the potential of this baby. My FAVORITE lens, always handheld, beautiful shots. When I started putting pics up of birds with this lens, my likes and favorites blossomed instantly...it is so worth the money, time, and the fine tuning USB dock. Try it! And try it again until you figure out how powerful it is. My partner occasionally wishes he had one, too, after seeing the gorgeous Purple Martins....YES, birds in flight and stationary are great subjects, just put in the time to learn the lens with your camera. And smile when people ooohhh and aaahhh over it and your pics...!

Q: 6. Is this lens compatible with the Nikon D 80 DSLR camera ?

A: Yes, the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Nikon is compatible for use with the Nikon D80 DSLR camera.

Q: 7. Is this compatible with the Nikon D7100?

A: Yes it is compatible. Unfortunately the tele converter only works with the sigma lense. They did not design it to work with other Nikon lenses. A real disappointment. When considering weight in a camera bag, it is one of the first pieces to be left behind. The lense itself is amazing.

Q: 8. Will it function with a canon 2x teleconverter, and to what extent?

A: It will not auto focus with any Canon camera. You could try taping the pins but I wouldn't expect quality results even if you manual focused. At about f/11 your not going to have much light to work with. Even some of the Canon 1.4x III is having problems with AF since the new firmware update on the 150-600C. I can get auto focus with the Canon 1.4x II, the Tamron, and Kenco 1.4x TC but at f/9 the AF struggles in low light.

Q: 9. Is this lens compatible with canon 5DMlll?

A: This lens works very well with my Canon 5DMIII, using it has been a good experience and it has performed much better than I had anticipated at its price point.

Q: 10. Will this lens work on my D5600

A: I have that lens and it works just fine with my D5600.

[0.205 lb] Until I bought the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary zoom, the standard lens I carried into the field was Nikon's 80-400 mm. The 10 Sigma 150-600 is nearly as light but oh so very much sharper. I have photographed everything from dragonflies and butterflies to wild turkeys and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep with it. The lens produced sharp images of each and every subject. I would and have recommended this lens to friends and acquaintances.

[0.205 lb] I use this lens on a Canon 70D for bird photography. The lens works very well in auto focus and provides very sharp photos. I also recently bought the 1.4x 1401 extender which gives me additional range. This extender works well in manual focus with the 150-600mm contemporary lens on the 70D. I don't think that the extender will work with this lens in auto focus with any of the Canon DSLR cameras.

[0.205 lb] Just received my lens and could not wait to try it. It went on my 60D and ran out to the backyard to snap anything I could find. Only two things showed up. And to be honest, very pleased with the images. Although a bit heavy, something I get get used too its a pleasure to use. Just have to play with it more.

[0.205 lb] If you want to reach out and get sharp pictures then this is your lens. One thing to note is the weight and size--it is somewhat heavy, but NOT for the range this lens has! I have been using a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and a 2x teleconvertor, so this lens is a bit heavier, but the reach and sharpness do not compare! I use it hand held at F16 and 600mm and get sharp pictures. It does take some getting used to, but it is well worth the little effort it takes. Sigma nailed it for me with this lens!!

[0.205 lb] Have used this on 4 outings (2 zoos, a horse farm, and a walk in the park) so far. Am very very pleased w/ it. Makes me want to upgrade some of my shorter lenses to better glass. It is heavy, but especially at the zoo's & the horse farm where I could usually find something to lean on, I was able to shoot & get great pics hand held. Not so much at the park. Needed the tripod there.

[0.205 lb] A great option for replacing the plastic, pinch 105mm lens caps for this lens. A nice snug fit and doubtful to lose as I have with past pinch lens covers I've used.

[0.205 lb] Like it. Was shooting Eagles with it yesterday. Got good results. Of course it is not a F4 600mm. But for the price, and weight good. If you can afford the sports lens get that one.

[0.205 lb] Researched this purchase for months. I relied on B&H 's reviews as well as reading through any other information about this lens that I could type into a search bar. I had purchased Sigms art lens recently and was very happy with quality of the lens and it's capabilities. The 150-600 contemporary zoom is big and comes in at around 4 and a half pounds and it is well worth carrying to get the shots you can get. My first big day to test the lens was at a spring training Baseball gain and the pictures I collected are amazing. Close ups from the right field bleachers and from behind home plate. Mounted on a Nikon D7200 with a monopod the images were sharp and I was able to stop action beautifully. Since then I have shot wildlife a including birds in flight with brilliant results. Could not be happier with this lens.
