Featuring an aluminum frame with small built-in magnets, the 590nm Kolari Vision Infrared Magnetic Clip-In Filter Nikon Z-Mount 590nmfrom Kolari Vision Infrared Magnetic Clip-In Filter Nikon Z-Mount 590nmsecures magnetically to the camera mount, and your lens then mounts on top. The filter sits securely between the camera and lens. It's compatible with full frame Nikon Z-mount cameras.

This 590nm version requires a full spectrum modification to be made to your camera in order to function properly. This entails manually removing the camera's low-pass filter and replacing it with a clear filter. Once that's done, this 590nm filter will work as intended to block visible light up to 590nm from the light spectrum. (Kolari Vision can make the modification for you at a cost if you send in your camera to them.)

The filter material of the clip-in filter is glass. A small removal tool is included but not required. The compact tool looks like a guitar pick and is included just in case, as the filter can easily be removed by hand.

Nikon Z6 II and Z7 II

Nikon Z5, Z6, Z7, and Z9 — due to a weaker magnetic force within these four compatible cameras, the filter has to be attached while the camera is laid on its back, with the lens mount facing up; after the filter is secured magnetically and the lens is mounted, the filter will stay firmly in place, and you can then freely move the camera

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Could this be used with a z50 or zfc?

A: Unfortunately no, it is only compatible with the Z6 and Z7 models.

Q: 2. What is the ft or distance of the range. Length of a car or tractor trailer truck length?

A: The range of this remote is 16ft and must be line of sight with the camera.

Q: 3. How do these filters stay put inside the sensor cavity and not fall out or perhaps slant and damage the sensor?

A: The Kase ND1000 Clip-In ND Filter for Nikon Z 6 / Z 7 / Z6 II / Z7 II pressure fits tightly in front of the sensor on compatible cameras.

Q: 4. Are these case clip in filters compatible with the Z-9 with its sensor cover?

A: Unfortunately, as far as we are aware, Kase specifies these as only being compatible with the Nikon Z6/Z7 (I and II) and the Nikon Z5.

Q: 5. Can this filter be mounted in nikon FTZ adapter?

A: The Kase ND64 Clip-In ND Filter for Nikon Z 6 / Z 7 / Z6 II / Z7 II can be used over the sensor in one of the compatible cameras when using the Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter.

A: Yes, the Kase Clip-in Filter R-MCUV for Nikon Z6/Z6II/Z7/Z7II is also compatible with the Nikon Z6 III.

Q: 7. Can I use this with my Nikon D3000 in bulb mode to shoot longer than 30 sec? If yes, please share how. Thanks.

A: You would rotate the rear control dial to until you reach the bulb mode and press the shutter button on the ML-L3. It will keep the shutter open in bulb mode for 30 minutes or until the shutter button on it is pressed again.

Q: 8. What is the difference between this and the older, cheaper Kase clip-in filter for Nikon Z, the KA1128030001?

A: This Kase Clip-in R-MCUV filter is multicoated and reduces ghosting, glare, and flares. The other filter is only a clear UV filter meant to protect the sensor.

Q: 9. Is there any way to attach a lanyard?

A: Unfortunately the Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote has no place for attaching a lanyard.

Q: 10. does it have an on/off switch?

A: There is no on/off switch for this remote.

[Dedicated] I decided on the 3-stop version because I was looking for a little help during sunny days and this has worked perfectly. The magnet slaps right on place and is easy to remove with anything that has a thin corner like a guitar pick or a credit card. No more ND filters dependent on diameter size!

[Dedicated] After long ago exploring IR images with Kodak chemical films, I purchased the Kolari K665Pro and K720Pro to use on a stock Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and Canon lenses. I chose the Kolari Pro series for their sharp cutoff spectra as well as their filter coatings compared to Kolari's base series or Hoya. The Kolari Pro quality / performance / price point trade-offs were great IMHO. Starting with the 665, I set the camera for manual exposure (typically bracketing around +2) and manual focus (typically longer focus settings), and the stock sensors pick up enough red for good composition and control. It has been a short learning curve and I am most pleased with the images that the Kolari filters are generating: awesome black and white landscapes, cloudscapes, and waterscapes, and excellent starting points for post-processed color shots (native red hue or channel swapped)! No discernible color aberration until I push the image magnification to its pixel limits. The coatings have been great with tough lighting angles - no flares - and stay remarkably clean in windy, dusty environments! Continuing experiments with the 720, which pushes the limits of the stock sensors but still works well. Highly recommend the Kolari 665Pro for anyone getting into IR!!!

[Glass] Best high quality filter for my infrared photography!

[Glass] I'm not sure how long rear filters have been around, but this is absolutly groundbreaking for astrophotography, as well as other purpose filters ie: Polarizer, Neutral Density, B&W, etc. So much easier, and cheaper, than purchasing numerous front filters and the smudges and dust they attract, not to mention the space those velcro filter holders take up in your gear bag. I'd rather have room for another lens (or two). Simply cover your lens with a UV/protection filter. Lastly, these rear filters are simple and easy to change out. I'll personally just use one camera for astrophotography and will buy a rear Polarizer filter for one of my other cameras for daylight shooting.

[Glass] I’m new to IR photography. I’m using a Sony F828 with the magnet hack (Google it) & various external filters. I started with standard filters such as 720nm & 850nm but wanted something to pass more color for a more interesting twist. This 550nm delivers; it was worth the wait. It’s a lot of fun and making me enjoy photography again. There’s a lot of information out there about post-processing. Play with channel swapping (Photoshop channel mixer) to flex your creative muscles.

[0.225 lb] I use a wide range of lenses, from cheap primes to large zooms, and my filter sizes vary across the range. With these clip-in filters, I can attach ND filters and shoot video with both RF and adapted EF lenses with no issues.

This 6 stop ND was perfect for shooting a music video outside in sunny Los Angeles, and the 1/8 Mist had just a hint of glow to highlights without killing the contrast.

I own all three 1/8 mist (0-stop, 3-stop, and 6-stop), and I have one in my camera at all times. Looking to try the 1/4 mist at some point to compare.

[0.225 lb] After long ago exploring IR images with Kodak chemical films, I purchased the Kolari K665Pro and K720Pro to use on a stock Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and Canon lenses. I chose the Kolari Pro Gen series for their sharp cutoff spectra as well as their filter coatings compared to Kolari's base series or Hoya. The Kolari Pro quality / performance / price point trade-offs were great IMHO.

I posted a review of the 665 and can not say enough positives about it!!! 5 stars!!!

Still experimenting with the 720. It is slightly more technically challanging on a stock camera, but just as impressive as the 665 so far. Highly recommend the Kolari Pro Gen series for anyone getting into IR!!!

[Dedicated] It is a filter with the appropriate settings for use in both photos and videos, especially when the sunlight is not strong or the day is cloudy. Additionally, its internal use makes it convenient by eliminating the need to recalibrate a gimbal when removing or attaching it. It has a minimal impact on the white balance, which is very easy to correct. Highly convenient as with just one filter, I can use an infinite variety of lenses.
