Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what is the main difference from the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II Lens that costs a lot more?

A: The FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II has improved optics (significant difference in my personal opinion after I traded my original one from the II), it's 30% lighter, and has a better linear AF motor for improved speed and accuracy.

Q: 2. Just got it today. Is it normal that the lens twisting just a tiny little once locked on mount. It seems to be a little loose , I guess that is what I meant to say.

A: My FE 2.8 70-200 GM OSS will wiggle back and forth very slightly when mounted on my a7RII.

Q: 3. Is this lens compatible with the Sony A 6000

A: Yes. This lens is fully compatible with the Sony Alpha a6000.

Q: 4. Does this lens focus by wire? Or is it a mechanical focus? How is the focusing when you manually focus? (For video -rack focus, tracking, tactile feel)

A: It is focus by wire.

Q: 5. Does this len work for a7

A: Yes it does. They are all E-mount. So it is supposed to work just fine.

Q: 6. Is there any variable ND filter that fits inside the lens hood?

A: Like any other mainstream 70-200mm zoom, you can put as many filters as practical on this lense's filter threads and the hood will go over the filters and attach to the lens via its dedicated baynot mount.

Q: 7. Does the Optical Steady Shot also functions well when filming with e.g. the Sony Fs7? Does anyone have experience with that?

A: The Optical steady shot feature is compatible with the FS7.

Q: 8. I just purchased this lens for use on my new Sony A7R III. Very heavy and hard to imagine using a camera shoulder strap that allows this lens to pull down on the camera? Damage to the camera? What solutions are there for straps while carrying this lens on the A7R while walking around? This is a new system for me. I just converted from Nikon D810. Thank you in advance.

A: I come from a Canon 5D world, moved into a Sony alpha 6500 for a lot of reasons, but weight and size were a big one. That being said, I have always used an over shoulder sling type that secures to the tripod connection point on base of camera body. It swivels and it can literally dangle behind you, hang and all of the weight is distributed up and over opposite should and it wont slip off.

Q: 9. Zoom ring looser as it gets closer to 200mm ??

A: I have both the Canon and Sony 70-200 mm and they are about the same.It seems right to me.

Q: 10. Someone said... Sony's G Master 24-70 IQ is better than Zeiss 55 f/. 1.8... My question is: How much IQ will be this 70-200 f/. 2.8...? I can't imagine this powerful lens!

A: This lens will give you excellent image quality and sharpness.

[0.17 lb] This is a really magnificent lens. It's extremely sharp. Perfectly built and beautiful to the eye. It may be a little heavy but that doesn't bother me at all. I've used it mainly for portraits so far. It produces pretty nice bokeh and performs flawless in every moment. Here are a few shots made with the lens and the A7ii

[0.17 lb] I have never owned a 70-200 lens, & had a bit of a void in my lens distances. I'm glad I waited for this to come. I'm still getting to know it's nuances, but very happy so far.

[0.17 lb] After experiencing how well LensCoat lens covers work for my 200-600mm, I picked one up for this lens. The fit incredibly well and provide that extra-level of protection, while also making you look important when not in the field! Highly recommend these covers

[0.17 lb] Everything you would expect. Big, fairly heavy - sharp and contrasty at all apertures. Fairly quick AF. The best choice if you need a large, fixed aperture and are willing to pay the price!

[0.17 lb] I LOVE this lens. I have owned both the EF70-200mm f/2.8L II as well as the VR2 version of the 70-200mm f/2.8 in Nikon. The new GMaster has raised the bar as far as I'm concerned, especially when shooting portraits with the EYE AF mode. It's difficult to get an eye out of focus even wide open and working in close to my subjects. The integral tripod foot is similar to Nikon's and is a superior to the Canon in removal with it's quick release. The lens is SHARP! Tons of contrast and really nice neutral color rendition will allow me to use this for both stills as well as video projects. Sony knocked this one out of the park...

[0.17 lb] I got this one because I bought the same for the 200-600mm lens. Why I used to hunt and go berserk over camo for certain seasons, now I shoot with the camera. I like the real tree system for both lenses. The switches and buttons are still accessible, but not in the cold when you're wearing thin gloves...you need your fingertip to activate switches through the plastic window. Rings still turn great...just adjust the neoprene to ensure no drag against the neighboring pieces.

My only issue (which is trivial) is the small arc cutout for the white locator pin used to attach the lens to the body is not large enough to see the pin; however, you know where it is based on the small arc itself. Or, get out your scissors and cut a bigger arc!

[0.17 lb] Minimal use as just obtained 1 week ago. A few test images suggests to be extremely well corrected and very very sharp on my Sony A7RII. Have not used with the extender however.
