Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What's the battery range life for this one versus the extended life version?

A: This battery has a capacity of 9600 mAh / 69 Wh. The extended version has a battery capacity of 12,800 mAh / 92 Wh.

Q: 2. Will this record all resolutions or just Pro Res 422?

A: The ProRes formats available for recording on the JVC M.2 SSD Media Adapter Caddy are ProRes 422LT, ProRes 422, and ProRes 422HQ.

Q: 3. How much more than camera can it hold? What does inside look like?

A: The inside of the bag is burnt orange with a tight black document pocket on one side. It comes with a velcro divider. With the HM170 in the bag there's about 3-4 inches of clearance in front of the camera, assuming you push the camera all the way to one side. There's probably 1-2 inches of clearance on the sides of the camera. These measurements were taken with the lens hood and microphone mounted. I would say there's enough room for the camera, power supply, a few batteries, and some small items but not much else.

Q: 4. Can the camera display a time and date stamp?

A: Yes, go into the camera settings, select SYSTEM RECORD SET TIMESTAMP ON.

Q: 5. Does this device allow for NDI Outputs? If so, how many?

A: The JVC vMix Studio Switcher & Control Surface Kit has one NDI network output.

Q: 6. Does the camera come with a battery charger and remote?

A: The following is enclosed when purchased with the JVC GY-HM180 Ultra HD 4K. Q: 7. Do I need to buy an adapter for my battery to fit on this camera ?

A: The camera accepts Gold-Mount batteries. If you have Gold Mount Batteries already you would not need an adapter. At the time of this posting we are actually offering a free JVC Gold-Mount Battery & Tandem-70 Power Package.

Q: 8. Can i get 120fps output through the sdi?

A: The JVC GY-HM180 Ultra HD 4K Camcorder with HD-SDI can only produce the 120p footage internally with h.264.

Q: 9. What is a solution to mounting wireless receivers to this camera? I have two Sennheiser EW-200's. Thanks!

A: The Sennheiser EW series products come with a Shoemount Adapter, if you do not have that anymore we have it available as a replacement part. You can use the shoe mount adapter to connect the receiver to the cold shoe on the camera. The HM850 also has an additional accessory thread on the top handle, you could purchase a Pearstone Shoe Adapter to connect a 2nd receiver to that as well. If you wanted to use a light on your cold shoe we have products like the Vello V-Rig Triple Shoe to give you additional connections.

Q: 10. what is the packed weight and box dimensions?

A: The weight of the box is 9.05 Lbs (4.1 KG). The box dimensions are 19.8 x 12.9 x 9.5 (50.3 x 32.7 x 24.1 CM).

[f/2.8 to 4.5] I was very worried when I bought the camera that the supplied battery wont last long.
I purchased an extra battery, the same that is supplied with the camera, the 9600mAh one.
It works well, gives me about 3 hours before I have to replace it, so with the 2 batteries I have 6 hours. not quite enough for my kind of work but a great start. If my calculations are right, the 12800mAh should then give you about 4 hours. but again it will depend on a lot of factors, how much you use zoom or focus and stabilizer. all my work is handheld, so a lot of zoom and all stabilized.

[82 mm] I can get 2-3 hours of use of these batteries on my GY-HC500 depending on how much I operate the zoom lens. I carry 2 spares with me so I'm always prepared for anything.

[JVC BN-VC296G] I give the JVC HC900 5-Stars! Excellent Camera all the way around. Caution....The on camera microphone requires a 5-pin XLR connection. The nearest 3-pin XLR jacks are located in the rear of the camera below the battery. If you purchase a 5-pin male to 3-pin female XLR cable, it will need to be at least 16 in length. Weight is about 18.6lbs with battery.

[f/2.8 to 4.5] I decided to get this bag because of Porta Brace's outstanding reputation and the fact that it's a near-perfect fit for the HM170, although it would also fit other smallish camcorders. The inside of the bag is burnt orange with a tight black document pocket on one side. (See attached photo) I would say there's enough room for the camera, power supply, a few batteries, and some small items but not much else. All in all, an excellent bag that will stand the rigors of the field.

[11.195 lb] Awesome product, horrible customer service. The bag works great, fits my camera perfectly and room for a few accessories without over packing the bag. But if you might need customer service, don't expect it from BNH, buy elsewhere.

[20x] First of all, if you look at the reviewers who gave this caddy 1 star you can see that they don't actually own the caddy. They are just complaining about the price. I do own this caddy. I'm reviewing it based on my experience using it.

I got this caddy as part of a bundle with my JVC GY-HC500 camera. With the bundle, the caddy was included with the camera along with a 1TB SSD at no additional cost! That makes this caddy a great deal if you can get it bundled with the camera for free!

There is a lot to like about this caddy. It gives you the ability to record a lot of high quality 4:2:2 10-bit 4k footage without having to worry about space limitations. You can go up to 60p in 4k with this caddy in the GY-HC500. You can also of course do other frame rates like 4k30, 1080p30, etc. At 1080p30 your recording time will essentially be endless with this caddy and a decent size SSD.

There are a few limitations that I have found while using this caddy. First of all, you have to remove the battery to remove the caddy from the camera. I recommend having the camera turned off while removing it anyway. Another limitation is that you cannot live stream with the camera while also recording to the SSD in this caddy. You can live stream while recording to SD Cards, though. Another thing, in order to get the camera to recognize the SSD in the caddy and be able to format it, record to it, etc. you have to go into the system menu and select one of the system options that include (SSD) in the name. Then the camera will reboot and you will be able to format the SSD and record to it.

Overall I have found this caddy great to use. It's a little less convenient than using SD cards that you can just pop in and out, but it makes up for it by giving you a lot of space to record to when combined with a decent sized SSD. I just wish they would add capability to live stream while also recording to the SSD in the caddy. Maybe some day they will do it via a firmware update.
