Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this filter slim enough to not vignette on the Sony FE1635z?

A: I own both zeiss, the cp and the uv one, and I do not see any diffrence with/without filter at 16mm or 35mm regardin fall off/ vignette on the sony-zeiss 16-35f4 lens. Hands down best filters I oned.

Q: 2. Does this create vignetting on the Voigt 40mm f/1.2 on a Leica M?

A: No, this filter should not cause vignetting on a 40mm lens.

Q: 3. What is the outer diameter of this filter? I would like to use a chrosziel clamp on matte box with a step up ring, should I get the 98mm or the 100mm ring to clamp onto this filter?

A: This has a front thread size of 95mm.

Q: 4. with an ultra-wide angle lens (i.e. Canon 16-35mm F4L with a full frame camera), do you get the dreaded X show up and if so at what density does it show up?

A: The X you can sometimes pick up in the image with a variable ND filter is caused most of the time by variable ND filters that go over 7-8 stops and lower quality ones. The B+W filter is fine. The one thing you might pick up is when set to the widest setting on that lens, 16mm you might pick up some vignette. And that is going to happen with that lens with most filters because of how wide it can go. The filter is designed with a thinner frame so it should be somewhat minimal.

Q: 5. will this fit a nikon af-s nikkor 24-120 lense?

A: The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR Lens B&H # NI241204GAF has 77mm filter threads. Therefore the 49mm filter will not work. This one is the one you need. ZEISS 77mm Carl ZEISS T* Circular Polarizer Filter B&H # ZEPOLF77.

Q: 6. Does it fit with the lens hood on?

A: Yes.

Q: 7. If I have the 82mm thread, should I order 72-82 or 82-95 size?

A: The 72-82 will provide better grip

Q: 8. I have a UV protective filter, Can i use it in addition to a Polarize filter? Stack all 3?

A: It's typically advised you don't stack filters due to diminishing transmission and risk of unwanted glare/artifacts/color-shifting/cross-polarization.

Q: 9. As these are metal, will they scratch the filters or lens barrel?

A: Yes they metal. Have not had occasion to use them yet.

Q: 10. will this work with the canon 28-70mm f2 lens?

A: Yes :) The 28-70 f/2L USM takes 95mm filters.

[Brass] After long ago exploring IR images with Kodak chemical films, I purchased the Kolari K665Pro and K720Pro to use on a stock Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and Canon lenses. I chose the Kolari Pro series for their sharp cutoff spectra as well as their filter coatings compared to Kolari's base series or Hoya. The Kolari Pro quality / performance / price point trade-offs were great IMHO. Starting with the 665, I set the camera for manual exposure (typically bracketing around +2) and manual focus (typically longer focus settings), and the stock sensors pick up enough red for good composition and control. It has been a short learning curve and I am most pleased with the images that the Kolari filters are generating: awesome black and white landscapes, cloudscapes, and waterscapes, and excellent starting points for post-processed color shots (native red hue or channel swapped)! No discernible color aberration until I push the image magnification to its pixel limits. The coatings have been great with tough lighting angles - no flares - and stay remarkably clean in windy, dusty environments! Continuing experiments with the 720, which pushes the limits of the stock sensors but still works well. Highly recommend the Kolari 665Pro for anyone getting into IR!!!

[Solid ND] Works great on full spectrum cameras. Lets you get into the deep infrared on 720nm or higher converted cameras.

[Solid ND] I have never had a bad experience in my years purchasing with B&H, and this transaction was no different. Their ordering site is always easy to use the the delivery is always on time. This is a well run company. My 10-stop filter works like a charm.

[Solid ND] I used this filter for the first time today, having bought it late last year. Instead of the usual watery subjects, I used ferry-unload traffic; we live on a small island and traffic is hard to find. I took a photo without the filter (Nikon 1 J5, 6.7-13mm lens), and simply multiplied that exposure by 4100 (10 stops) for use with it. Below is a 30-second exposure.

[Glass] After long ago exploring IR images with Kodak chemical films, I purchased the Kolari K665Pro and K720Pro to use on a stock Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and Canon lenses. I chose the Kolari Pro Gen series for their sharp cutoff spectra as well as their filter coatings compared to Kolari's base series or Hoya. The Kolari Pro quality / performance / price point trade-offs were great IMHO.

I posted a review of the 665 and can not say enough positives about it!!! 5 stars!!!

Still experimenting with the 720. It is slightly more technically challanging on a stock camera, but just as impressive as the 665 so far. Highly recommend the Kolari Pro Gen series for anyone getting into IR!!!

[Glass] I’m new to IR photography. I’m using a Sony F828 with the magnet hack (Google it) & various external filters. I started with standard filters such as 720nm & 850nm but wanted something to pass more color for a more interesting twist. This 550nm delivers; it was worth the wait. It’s a lot of fun and making me enjoy photography again. There’s a lot of information out there about post-processing. Play with channel swapping (Photoshop channel mixer) to flex your creative muscles.
