Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can anyone explain the dot markings to stops on this filter?

A: I had this same question and decided to run some tests (using my Nikon D810). I did this inside with the lighting (more or less) constant. I ran three sets of tests: 1) in manual mode with auto ISO, I noted the ISO without the filter and with the filter positioned at each of the ten different dot makings; 2) In manual mode (and constant ISO) I set the aperture to zero out the meter without the filter and at each of the dot markings; and 3) In aperture priority mode, I noted the shutter speed without the filter and at each of the dot markings. The results varied somewhat depending on the test. Reported below is the average of the three methods. The first dot corresponded to 1.0 stops, second dot to 1.1 stops, third dot to 1.4 stops, fourth dot to 1.8 stops, fifth dot to 2.2 stops, sixth dot to 2.5 stops, seventh dot to 2.8 stops, eighth dot to 3.2 stops, ninth dot to 3.7 stops, and tenth dot to 4.1 stops. So, as others have said, the dots are just a guide.

Q: 2. Regarding the Heliopan 52mm Slim Circular Polarizer SH-PMC Filter (705240), does anyone know if this filter will work with the larger Canon lenses (300mm f2.8, 400mm DO ...) that have rear mount drop-in filter holders. The issue is that 52mm screw in filters fit in the filter holder but when sliding the filter holder into the slot in the lens it does not fit because the filter is too thick. Is this particular filter slim enough to work with the above lenses? Please help.

A: Unfortunately this type of filter is built to be used on the outside of the lens, and is too thick to work inside a drop-in filter slot. Most circular polarizers, with their moving parts, will be too thick to use.

Q: 3. Or maybe I should also ask. The main pieces I want to carry are a Canon R with the 24-105 attached and a Canon 70-200. Would those fit? It looks like there would be enough room but I notice that says it can handle up to a 70mm attached and that made me wonder. Again thank you much.

A: Your gear will fit in this bag with the 24-105mm attached or body alone but not with the 70-200 attached.

Q: 4. Will this also work for the lite chaser 15 pro max case?

A: Yes, the PolarPro VND 3-5 Filter for iPhone 15 Series LiteChaser Pro 15 Cases, B&H # POIP15VND35, is compatible with the PolarPro LiteChaser Pro 15 series cases which covers both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Q: 5. Would these work on a camera that has been converted for infrared? Mine passes visible light above 590 nm and near infrared light. I do not want to block infrared light any more than visible light.

A: You would need to ask the company that did the IR conversion specifically but Kolari Vision (for example) makes their own IR ND filter so these filters should be fine too.

Q: 6. Will this fit on the iPhone 16 Pro as well?

A: The Moment CineBloom Snap-On Filter iPhone 15 Pro & 15 Pro Max (10% Diffusion), B&H # MOCBFI15P20, is only compatible with iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max Moment cases. For the iPhone 16 Pro Max, you would need to get the Moment CineBloom QuickLock Diffusion Filter for iPhone 15/16 Pro/Pro Max (10%), B&H # MO107131.

Q: 7. How wide of a bottle can fit in the side pocket? I usually carry a 28oz Gatorade in the summer.

A: Think Tank Photo Vision 15 Shoulder Bag has a adjustable side pocket. The largest diameter it will hold is 3.58 inches.

Q: 8. Can you confirm if the Vision 15 can be used on an airline as either a personal item or carry on luggage?

A: Yes, you can carry on this bag, whether personal or otherwise.

Q: 9. Will a Lee 150mm ND filter fit properly in an NiSi filter holder?

A: yes, it will fit nicely.

Q: 10. Will this filter accept an 82mm Canon lens cap?

A: The filter doesn't have any front threads so the lens cap would most likely fall off.

[Multi Coated] I’m new to IR photography. I’m using a Sony F828 with the magnet hack (Google it) & various external filters. I started with standard filters such as 720nm & 850nm but wanted something to pass more color for a more interesting twist. This 550nm delivers; it was worth the wait. It’s a lot of fun and making me enjoy photography again. There’s a lot of information out there about post-processing. Play with channel swapping (Photoshop channel mixer) to flex your creative muscles.

[0.785 lb] OK if you are not sure if you will use it don't buy it. But if you have a full spectrum camera, this is one of your filters in your IR, UV filter set. Color IR is not for every one but it can be a blast if you find a way to understand what this filter can do for you.

[Multi Coated] Works great on full spectrum cameras. Lets you get into the deep infrared on 720nm or higher converted cameras.

[Glass] I've been using the Kolari Vision IR Chrome Lens Filter on my IR full spectrum modified Sony a7iii with the 24mm G-Master lens. In order to achieve the vibrant red foliage colors with realistic blue skies and other colors, it is critical to have the correct custom white balance. At least with the Sony this required some experimentation as the usual gray card setting makes green foliage more orange than red (see photo), and this is very hard to correct in Lightroom. With my Sony, getting vibrant red foliage pushed the hues of other colors off a bit. Your experience may differ as I'm betting it's a function of the color algorithms in the specific camera being used. I did find that desaturating all color channels except blue can be any easy way to get b&w IR images with nice blue skies (see photo). Like all filters, plan to play with it a while to see how it affects your images under various circumstances.

[86 mm] Shoot aerochrome with you converted full spectrum digital camera. Works like a charm, just set your white balance and trees turn red but keeps the sky blue. No need to sit in front of your computer to swap channels.
Ensure that your lenses do not create hotspots. Some lenses can create spots in the centre of images.

[86 mm] 4 stop ND but as advertised. Know exactly how many stops used rather than VND with imprecise wheel.
