[Glass] I use this filter on every exterior night shot, most interior night shots, and most close-ups. My lenses already have a nice soft focus to them, so combined with this, it really gives that nice cinematic touch. I typically just bounce between three filters for everything I do; a VND, a circular polarizer, or this 1/8 Black Mist (All are Vaxis via a Tilta Matte Box). If I had lenses with a sharper focus, I might have jumped to the 1/2, but for my setup, the 1/8 hits to spot without overdoing it. 5

[Glass] I was hesitant to invest in propriety filters for my Tilta Mirage matte box, but the low price, light weight and performance make them a good value. I just hope Vaxis continues to offer them, as filters can break or get scratched. The 1/8 filter is very subtle, which may be exactly what you want. It blooms highlights and practical lights in the shot, but doesn't seem to do much for skin tones. I need to shoot more with this one, but I will purchase a 1/4 mist for stronger effect. I will also invest in a set of the Vaxis IRND filters, as the Mirage's VND filter has a bit of a yellow/green cast. The cast isn't hard to dial out with a custom white balance on set or color work in post, but reviews of the IRND filters indicate they have much less cast to deal with. The Tilta Mirage is a nice system, and unless someone else produces circular filters for it, the Vaxis filters are the only option. Thankfully, it's a good one. 5

[95 mm] I really like the pure mist. I have the 1/8 and it's probably the one that just lives on the mattebox. Just enough to soften the contrast and smooth the image but not enough to make a statement. When you want more of that effect step up to the 1/4. I think the 1/2 is just to strong for most use cases. 5

[95 mm] Not a fan of the pure mist look, but these black mist give the perfect balance of diffusion and clarity. 1/4 looks nice too, but can be a bit heavy handed for backlit scenarios. 1/8 is a great all-rounder. 5

[0.19 lb] I originally bout the variable ND filter for my Tilta Mirage matte box. As with all variable NDs I've tried, there was some noticeble IR pollution (shadows and dark neutrals take on a red cast). I have since invested in 3 of the Vaxis IRND filters, and I'm very happy with the results. I also have 2 strengths of the Vaxis Black Mist filters. These filters are affordable, light weight and obviously a perfect fit for the Mirage matte box. I hope Vaxis continues to make these available in the event that I ever loose or break any of them. 5

[95 mm] This filter does a nice job softening the digital edges in a very subtle way (might be too subtle for some, but great for news/doc to not overdramatize the look.) Fits great with Tilta Mirage, eager to compare to Tilta's new Illusion line. 5

[Glass] Great set of filters, 1/8 Mist just takes the edge off the images and the ND's have no color cast to them that I can see. Great deal for the quality. Only negative is bring a lens cleaning cloth as they are a bit difficult to get in and out without leaving some fingerprints on them. Still, for the weight savings and results that is a minor issue. 5

[95 mm] I'm very happy with the Tilta Mirage matte box, largely due to the affordable filter options from Vaxis. The IRND filters are more neutral than the variable ND option, and also reduce IR pollution (red tone in shadows). At the affordable prices they are, there is little reason not to own a few IRND filters. 5
