Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can Adobe Premiere import files shot by this camera in H.264 (1920x1080), without needing any conversion?

A: Yes Adobe Premiere can. The latest version of Adobe Premiere is able to handle H.264 files.

Q: 2. Canon xf705 camera tested with Sony 128GB SF-G Tough Series UHS-II SDXC Memory Card ?

A: While we are not aware of any specific testing the Sony 128GB SF-G Series UHS-II SDXC Memory Card, B&H # SOSD128GBUII, should be compatible with this camcorder. https://bhpho.to/2oxZAWA

Q: 3. The Canon XF705 monitor has desqueeze function for anamorphic use?

A: We are not aware of the XF705 having anamorphic options such as a de-squeeze mode.

Q: 4. Have you had any problems mounting a light on this camera with a shotgun mic attached?

A: It's possible that depending on the size and model of the on-camera light, there may be some issues with clearance, but using an additional shoe mount adapter like the one illustrated here, should solve the problem: https://bhpho.to/3dJmeTJ

Q: 5. Why would I spend thousands more on this over the upcoming AG-CX350? I'm trying to compare and its not clear to me how to justify the big difference in $$$.

A: Some advantages this camcorder has over the AG-CX350 include offering a 12G-SDI output that will give you 4K 60fps through SDI. The CX350 only has 3G-SDI output for HD only through SDI. The XF705 has a larger form factor and it has an L Lens, which is Canon's top glass.

Q: 6. Hi, what is the best high quality memory card to use on the XF705?

A: The camera would need nothing faster than this Sandisk model: https://bhpho.to/39uM6Bh - any faster card would be overkill.

Q: 7. What's the Canon XF705 ENG STYLE EMEENS ?

A: The XF705's design is suited for ENG, documentary and run-and-gun productions. ENG means Electronic News-Gathering, which is a term used for camera people shooting for the news.

Q: 8. There are two little screw holes right under the hole for the shoulder strap at the back of the camera. What is it for?

A: Canon has not announced what those holes are specifically. We image they may be for brackets like this: BEC 5/8" Microphone Bracket Plate B&H # BEMICB.

Q: 9. PICTURE PROFILE?

A: Yes, the XF705 has a number of different Preset Color Settings and a Custom Color Setting.

Q: 10. Has anyone had experience with XF705 low light performance? And how far can you push the gain?

A: With its 1" sensor it will out perform cameras with smaller sensor's. You should see acceptable performance in low light with this camcorder. Higher gain will always look like higher gain. So practice good cinematography techniques of exposing correctly, adding light whenever you can and you will get great images.

[1x RJ45 Female] These units are ideal for instant connect up and they work. You can customise the bit rate and it keeps the video smooth. One TX can feed many RX.

[Device: 15 W] This has everything I wanted in a pick up and shoot, quality camera. The image stabilization when zoomed all the way in is great. The autofocus is excellent. Being able to record in Log is great too.

[Device: 15 W] Bought this and its matching tx. They seem pretty good. You can select different definitions, FHD, HD, SD, and then can assign them to the 3 types, and allocate bit rates for each. Eg you can select HD, send that to SD and a bit rate of 800 and FHD to HD and a bit rate of 2000 etc. It then selects the resolution type, eg 720P. The only limitation I find a bit strange is that the full range of resolutions, are not available all the time. They vary what is available depending on the Hz, 50Hz or 60Hz of the incoming HDMI. I am using 60Hz, and this does not have 1080i, but if I was using 50Hz, then 1080i would be included.
60Hz has 480i, 480P, 720P, 1080P.
50Hz has 576i, 576P, 720P, 1080P, 1080i.
The other strange thing I notice is that if I select a bit rate of 800Kbps, and then monitor the link at the IP level, it seems to be using about 3.5Mbps.
However, for quality and ease of use, these seem to be great devices.

[5 to 95%] There's so many protocols to work with in this little box, and decodes practically anything thrown at it.

It's not an entry level unit but it's very very good and VITEC keeps improving it

[Proprietary] The Osprey is quite versatile and reliable. We have purchased dozens of the G1 & G2 encoders for use throughout numerous facilities in our extensive network. Our primary use is for multicasting, but we also do a number of unicasts and YouTube streams.
Osprey tech support is so helpful and knowledgeable, which is another huge selling point.
We have used numerous other manufacturers products (HaiVision, Evertz, Ensemble Design, and Lynx). All of them work fine but Osprey offered the best quality and reliability for the price.

[Device: 15 W] The Canon XF Plugin 3.4.1 for Avid Media Access [macOS] was released last week and after installing, I’ve been using AVID Media Composer to AMA link to the HEVC .265 UHD files from the XF705 and transcoding them to DNxHR HQX successfully. I’m not a tech analyst, but everything finally looks good to me. I’m just starting to use the camera, but the combination of the color and the above average lens, makes this camcorder a step above the others.
