Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is the unfi version any better? Or is it just that controller bring all the stats to the on web page?

A: Unifi needs a controller, Edgeswitch has a built in web intertface and CLI for advanced users. I think the hardware is identical.

Q: 2. Pardon my ignorance but I'm not an IT guy. I am purchasing three Sony PTZ cameras that will power with POE. Normally you would look all three via cat 5 but there are many times when the distance of all three combined would be over 100m which is the typical max length of POE from what I gather. If I take the control cable from the PTZ cameras into this box, cam I simultaneously feed 3 cat 5 POE to each camera 100M each? Or is this strictly a switched output rather than using it as a splitter.

A: I would recommend using a Ubiquiti Networks 50V PoE Adapter with Gigabit LAN Port at each desired end location. Injecting power at the site of the PTZ camera at a closer point dropping the distance limitations.

Q: 3. Does it have a stand-alone built-in management web UI? Or some "platform" enrollment is needed to manage this device?

A: This Ubiquiti Networks Pro Max 16 PoE 16-Port 2.5G / 1G Managed Network Switch is managed by either a Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Cloud Key device or Dream Machine gateway.

Q: 4. With the cloud key running, do you have client visibility only to downstream clients or all clients on the subnet?

A: The cloud key has visibility of all the network it manages, not just a subnet or downstream.

Q: 5. I current own this switch but need a switch with more ports (I need 12 ports). Which model should I upgrade to?

A: You could simply add the same model to the current switch and network and double your ports. This is an example of a higher level switch with more ports: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1273932-REG/ubiquiti_networks_us_16_150w_us_unifi_switch_16port.html

Q: 6. Does it have RADIUS auth option?

A: Yes, the Ubiquiti Networks ES-5XP EdgeSwitch XP 5-Port Advanced Gigabit PoE Managed Switch, B&H # UBES5XP, supports RADIUS authentication.

Q: 7. Is this hub compatible with Apple USB SuperDrive?

A: According to apple's specs, the superdrive uses USB type A, the 'standard' type (before USB-C), and the HUB uses type A, so I assume it should be compatible.

Q: 8. can this provide power to 2 portable hard drives? along with 2 flash drives or card readers?

A: I connect two hard drives, an iphone and a usb stick. It works.

Q: 9. Is there a rack mount kit for this ethernet switch?

A: Several people on Reddit confirmed that the XG-6 fits the EdgeRouter Rackmount kit perfectly. That kit is black though, like the rest of the Edge line. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1426600-REG/ubiquiti_networks_er_rmkit_edgemax_universal_rack_mount.html per Ubiquiti forum: https://community.ui.com/questions/US-XG-6POE-Rackmounting/cd011e35-5e1e-462a-aa7a-681b0ec6e80b

Q: 10. Can the port LEDs be turned off to save of the cost of useless light solution?

A: Yes, the port lights for the Ubiquiti Networks Pro Max 16-Port 2.5G / 1G Managed Network Switch can be customized or disabled.

[55 W] I purchased this POE switch for a camera system. There are 4 cameras that are connected to a NVR thru an access point (bridge mode). I used this to power the cameras and feed the antenna. The switch has a 48vdc power supply. Works like a charm.
