Easily connect wireless systems, camera mounted mics, and professional handheld and boom microphones to your camera with the DXA-MAX from Beachtek. This easy-to-use, 2-channel, active audio adapter mounts to your camcorder or DSLR/mirrorless camera and provides an XLR input with phantom power, two mono 3.5mm inputs, and one 3.5mm stereo input to connect various audio sources. The inputs feed powerful, low-noise preamps with a wide bandwidth that allow you to get clear, professional sounding audio without distracting levels of hiss coloring your recordings.

The unit connects to the camera's 3.5mm input jack and offers gain switches and knobs for each channel along with 8-segment metering to provide a clear display of critical levels. A second 3.5mm output with volume knob is available for headphone monitoring. When you're only recording a single mic, use the audio-bracketing feature to set up a backup recording on your camera at a lower level in case the main take is too hot in some spots. The built-in rechargeable battery powers the unit for up to 10 hours and the modular design with removable cheese plate gives the system tremendous versatility for camera mounting as well as options for attaching receivers and accessories. With additional cables (available separately) you can even record professional XLR mics to your smartphone or tablet.

Go pro with all the features you need, including a built-in XLR connector with 48-volt phantom power for connecting any pro mic. In addition, there are two 3.5mm mono and one 3.5mm stereo mini jacks with plug-in power for connecting any camera-mounted mic, such as the popular Rode VideoMics. You can also easily connect a wireless receiver to either the XLR or mini jack inputs. Connect two audio sources at a time for two-channel recording. Each channel can easily be independently adjusted for the optimum recording level. The DXA-MAX gives you the ability to connect whatever microphones work best for your situation.

Want to connect a sound mixer? No problem. Simply use a readily available barrel attenuator between the mixer and XLR input of the adapter. For a two-channel feed from a mixer, you can use an attenuating "Y" cable between the mixer and Stereo input on the DXA-MAX.

No more guessing at where to set your levels. The key to getting the best audio performance is to be sure that the levels are in the sweet spot for the highest signal-to-noise ratio. Too low and you are near the noise floor of the camera preamplifiers, too high and you risk clipping and distortion. The VU meters make it easy to see exactly where you are, which eliminates all guess work. Bright, easy-to-read LEDs are visible under virtually all lighting conditions.

With the optional RODE SC7 smartphone cable (available separately), you can easily connect a professional XLR microphone for superb audio, ideal for use with interview mics for one-channel audio. You can also record two-channel audio onto an iPhone with the optional RODE AI-Micro Compact Audio Interface and Beachtek BT-SC6 cable (both available separately). This allows you to use the bracketing feature to record audio to both channels at different levels, so you have a backup track in case the primary one gets blown out. You can also add a second mic or wireless receiver with a TRS connector to the second channel.

Powerful low-noise preamplifiers with dual gain settings provide a strong, clear signal to the camera. This allows you to reduce the camera gain, which dramatically reduces the hiss. You can now use the very clean preamplifiers in the adapter to effectively replace the preamplifiers in the camera. This is the key to dramatically increasing the signal-to-noise ratio for in camera recording. You now get comparable or better results than using a separate digital audio recorder to capture quality audio—and you don't have to worry about syncing your audio and video in post.

A very useful feature allows you to use audio bracketing when using a single mono microphone to have a backup channel that is recorded at a lower level. This gives you a safety track in case the primary channel gets distorted from an overly hot input.

The removable cheese plate has a built-in shoe slot plus several threaded 1/4" and 3/8" mounting holes to easily add accessories to the top of your camera. Each side of the chassis also has additional built-in sturdy mounting shoes, ideal for mounting wireless microphones. The brass mounting foot allows the unit to attach to the camera shoe so it is up and out of the way of the camera battery drawer. Beachtek's optional V-CLIK (available separately) makes it even easier to quickly and securely click-on and click-off anything from lights, microphones, monitors, and more.

No more having to waste money on buying replacement batteries. The DXA-MAX offers a built-in high-capacity LiPo battery for up to ten hours of operation when phantom power is not being used. Check the battery level at a glance with Green/Yellow/Red status indicator. You can also power the device externally via the micro-USB port from any commonly available USB battery for unlimited run times.

The tough, extruded aluminum chassis is virtually indestructible with rock-solid electronics you can rely on. Not even a two-ton truck rolling over it will damage it.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hello, What is difference between this model and the Beachtek DXA-MAX 2-Channel Active Audio Adapter for DSLR?

A: This item is the Beachtek DXA-MAX 2-Channel Active Audio Adapter for DSLR.

Q: 2. How do I use the meters on the unit when I am likely more interested to go by the meters on the DSLR where the recoding is being made? I guess I am confused at to their role.

A: The meter display onboard the Beachtek DXA-MAX 2-Channel Active Audio Adapter for DSLR shows levels at one stage of the audio signal chain. These are useful to confirm that the signal coming into the Beachtek is adequate and not clipping before sending down the chain to the next stage in the camera for further monitoring and adjustment if needed.

Q: 3. looking to use 3 lav. to record audio for my Sony mirrorless camera. I currently have the beach tech which only records 2.?

A: The Beachtek DXA-MAX 2-Channel Active Audio Adapter for DSLR (BH #BEDXAMAX • MFR #DXA-MAX) can only record up to two microphones/channels/tracks. To record more than two lavaliers, consider a 4-track recorder such as the TASCAM DR-70D 6-Input / 4-Track Multi-Track Field Recorder with Onboard Omni Microphones (BH #TADR70D • MFR #DR-70D).

Q: 4. What happens when you attach an XLR on right channel, and either: two mono 3.5 mics on the left & right; or one stereo plug mic?

A: Only one source each should be connected to the Beachtek DXA-MAX's Left and Right inputs. Connecting multiple sources to one channel will cause phase issues and a loss of audio quality.

Q: 5. When using two audio sources, shotgun and wireless, how is it recorded? Can I select one or the other during Post even if two are captured at the same time during recording?

A: If using two mics and wanting them on separate audio channels for post production, then use the stereo output mode on this to achieve separate channels.

Q: 6. Will this work with a Deity D3 Pro and a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K?

A: Yes the Beachtek DXA-CINE will work with a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K.

Q: 7. Is this audio adapter compatible with the Sony HXR-MC2500 Camcorder?

A: Yes, the Beachtek DXA-MAX is compatible with any camera that has a 3.5mm microphone input.

Q: 8. it works with other brands of lavaliers wireless? Like Sennheiser G3.

A: Yes, it can work with other wireless microphone receivers although the size and shape of the DXA-GO was designed specifically to accommodate the size and shape of the Rode Wireless Go receiver. The Sennheiser G3 receiver is larger than the Wireless Go receiver, but it could work, depending on your camera and the amount of space needed. For comparison, the Wireless Go receiver measures 1.7 x 1.8 x 0.7" while the G3 receiver is 2.5 x 3.2 x 0.9". We do have other 2-channel passive camera mixers with 3.5mm TRS inputs and outputs that will work in exactly the same way and just a different configuration than the DXA-GO. Take a look at the Saramonic SR-AX100 Passive 2-Channel Audio Adapter for DSLR Cameras (B&H # SASRAX100) and Kopul CMX-1-V2 Two-Channel Mini Mixer with Shoe Bracket (B&H # KOCMX1V2) which are both compatible for use with two wireless receivers like the Wireless Go or G3.

Q: 9. Does it work with Rode Go wireless 2 ?

A: Yes it will work with the Rode Wireless GO II system

Q: 10. Would this allow for two mono inputs such as two original Rode Wireless go mics, plus a stereo shut in mic at the same time?

A: The Beachtek DXA-GO Two-Channel Adapter/Bracket for GO Wireless Receiver and Camera will accept two mono inputs simultaneously or a single stereo input, but will not accept all three inputs at once.

[1.43 lb] I use this with a Lumix S-5. The internal battery lasts plenty long (you can also charge while in use), and it sounds great and is whisper quiet. It is less costly and has more useful audio options than the Panasonic hot shoe XLR adapter, and does not need to be in a hot shoe draining my camera battery. Lots of useful ways to mount it. Comes with useful cables and hardware.

[Aluminum] Was looking for an audio mixer for my Lumix S1H and didn't want to pay the price for the Lumix audio interface. This multichannel mixer works great for integrating multiple audio signals into your video. Small, portable, and love the addition of the cheese plate.

[4 Hours] I ordered two and had to RMA one back the very day I received it because it was defective out of the box (while charging the red blinking charge light never changed to green to indicate full charge after six hours plugged in. Can't trust that item in the field). However, I had the chance to test the second unit with my Sennheiser ME-66 Power Mic and a Rode NTG with phantom power and I am sincerely impressed. This Beachtek preamp is powerful and the sound so clear and virtually hiss free, I was amazed at the audio quality. From now on I am using this Beachtek model with my GH5 cameras instead of using the Panasonic DMW-XLR1 modules that cost two thirds more and use the camera's preamp since it does not have its own. I haven't had the chance to test internal battery life but if it lasts as long as the manual states, this will be one of the best purchases I've made. I'm taking the chance and once again buying a second one as a backup. Let's hope no more defective models!

[1.43 lb] We originally purchased the DXA-MICRO-PRO adapter, which is the same unit except that it is powered by a 9v battery, whereas this unit is powered by a rechargeable battery with an option for an external power cord (USB). Except for how they are powered, and for the addition of the accessory plate, the units are identical. This is the unit to get if you are able to power it from USB or AC-to-USB. Otherwise, your choice is rechargeable battery (this one) or disposable battery (the other one). I hate batteries, so I got this one.

The designed was really perfect to fit the wireless go mics. Easy set up to plug both camera and device and ready to go. You need to follow instrunction for installation and everything go smoothly. I actually bought another one for the other camera. Highly recommended for this new product

[4 Hours] I bought this to prerecord our church worship services during the pandemic. I paired it with the Tascam TM-2X stereo XY microphone and my Canon 5D iii. I mounted it on top of my camera and was able to mount the microphone and a 7 monitor on top of the cheese plate. It was easy to set up and the instructions for setting the input levels was dead on (be sure and check your sound levels on the camera). The headphone monitor worked well also. I haven't tried inputting sound through the XLR input yet. Search for Magnolia Creek Baptist Church on YouTube and watch the worship portions on May 10th, 24th and 31st to judge sound quality.

[4 Hours] I have used this on a variety of projects. Solid built, like a tank! Input and output options allow me to use Mini TRS and XLR. Headphone out is strong and clean. Battery life is really good unless you are using phantom power, but still very usable. Recorded audio is clean, clear, and undistorted. I believe you won't be sorry buying this unit.

[10 Hours] I used it on a mirrorless camera and purchased an extra power cable and it worked very well. Tested it at 40 dB gain without plugging in a microphone to hear the low noise of the device.

[2400 mAh] small form factor, sites atop my small Sony rig with ease. I have it mounted on a small rig cage, and I use my Rode NTG5 with it.
