This mobile studio utilizes HDBaseT technology to control up to three Datavideo PTZ cameras while streaming H.264 video to the web. It features three HDBaseT inputs that can control connected cameras and accept video inputs, as well as one HDMI input to add an additional video source. Three HDMI program outputs allow you to connect to monitors to display your program, one HDMI is for graphics output, and a streaming RJ45 LAN output connector lets you stream live to the Internet using a minimum Cat 6 cable. Depending on the data rate of your stream, you can also record to an optional SD card.

The HS-1600T Mark II is built into a suitcase-like form with a 17.3" TFT LCD monitor with 1920 x 1080 resolution built into the lid. The rest of the unit features all the switcher controls, including a T-bar for transitions, a joystick, audio sliders, and a host of buttons for controlling your PTZ cameras, inputs, program outputs, and streaming video. There are also 2RCA and XLR audio inputs to mix analog audio into your program.

The monitor supports multiview mode, while the HDMI and streaming output support your program output. The switcher also supports popular mix effects, including picture-in-picture, wipe, mix, and fade, and it incorporates one upstream keyer. It can also send red and green tally signals via the built-in tally connector. The built-in real-time encoder enables live streaming, and you can stream and record your program at the same time.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can it be rack mount?

A: No. Unless you find a way to rig it yourself but there is no bolt on setup for it. I use velcro onto a mobile video cart we use.

Q: 2. The only allowable input formats are 60fps at 1080i, 1080p or 720p? Any device having lower FPS attributes will not be seen by the V-1HD? Also, if I had a device that outputs 720p and another device that outputs 1080p, can they both connect to the V-1HD simultaneously?

A: The V-1HD can mix between 1080I and 1080p only. In the 720p mode all HDMI sources must be 720p. Sorry, but the V-1HD will not work with any formats like 480i/P - you can use one of the Roland Multi-Format mixers like the Roland V-40HD.You can however select a output format to be 720p, 1080i or 1080p at all times to downscale or upscale.

Q: 3. can the preview output be the same as the program output? i.e. two program outs for two screens?

A: You can accomplish this by using an HDMI Splitter, such as this one: https://bhpho.to/3tlqnU1

Q: 4. I'm in CANADA Toronto. Do you have a store?

A: Hello there, we do have a store, located in New York City. We also ship all around the world and would be happy to assist you with questions about this product or any others you may be interested in. You could give B&H a call at 1-800.606.6969. Thank you for your interest!

Q: 5. Would there be any problem connecting HD cameras via HDMI cables of 150+ feet? Some switchers I've researched have problems with this.

A: Actually, it is not the switcher but the signal that cannot handle long cable runs since HDMI becomes too weak after 30-50' or so. Booster cable can get this up to 100' but for longer runs we suggest signal conversion to SDI or Cat5/6 cabling. Please email us so that we can further assist you. provideo at bhphoto dot com.

Q: 6. specs show a 20 ms latency. Since this would be used for IMAG, how many ms or Lines would be noticeable for lip sync issues?

A: Audio and video latency can be fine tuned when using the Datavideo SHOWCAST 100-12X All-in-One Single Operator 4K Production Bundle.

Q: 7. Does this switcher work with a PAL camera. Specifically I want to use this with three Sony HXR-MC2500E for live events. Has anyone tried this mixer with the camera?

A: Yes, the Roland V-1HD is both PAL and NTSC. You can set the HXR-MC2500E (B&H #SOHXRMC2500E) to 1080i50 for it to work with this switcher.

Q: 8. Good day ! How long ROLAND V-HD POrtable switcher safely operates before its overheat and stop working ?

A: I can use mine for the whole day at 1080, all inputs with no issues

Q: 9. how do you control the cameras?

A: The included Datavideo HS-1600T MARK II switcher offers next generation design which features a built-in camera controller for up to 3 Datavideo PTZ cameras. (Works with PTC-140T and PTC-150TL)

Q: 10. If i want to RECORD, WEBCAST and PREVIEW from the outputs, could I use a hdmi splitter?

A: The Roland V-1HD does have a Preview output so you are good there. Downsteam, you should be able to do what ever you wish with your HDMI signal.

[17.3"] I purchased mine from a different retailer here in Canada, I've had 0 issues with overheating or issues of that sort. I think a particular con that should be noted though, is that it does have fans, and like most other switchers I have used, in a quiet room it is relatively very loud for such a small unit. The ATEM TV studio had fins on the rear that you could cook eggs on when it was running, but it was silent. The ease of traveling with this thing is sort of life changing. I'll take its shortcomings (not many worth noting for price and size really) with grace. I highly recommend it.

[48 kHz / 16-Bit] I have really been impressed with how robust this unit has been in such a small package. I love that you can also hook up and iPad for accessing the settings.

[17.3"] easy to set up and use. Don't know it can hold a title slide image but other than that it is perfect.

[4] As always I get a product, check for latest firmware and software before use. Since then had it for 8 months and never any problem with it. Used it in several 8 hours event production with computer and cameras and works perfect. On a table with cables and airflow in open air. One small note maybee but always important, same format on all inputs important (apart from the hdmi 3 scaler input) can make it lock up.. mostly used it in 1080i or 720p.

[4] This is a fantastic piece of equipment. I absolutely love it. Well made, light, and loaded with features. I purchased AV Matrix converter boxes to use with the Roland v-1SDI; HDMI to SDI, and SDI to HDMI. The v-1SDI is easy to use, and has an intuitive interface. The free Roland companion software works great too. Dollar for dollar, this Roland device is an extraordinary value. Get it's matching case too.

[1920 x 1080] Was making due with Feelgood's LivePro, but this unit reminds me of working switchers on a remote three camera shoot for sporting events. Solid feel and build, flexible design and you can tweak to your heart's delight!!

[17.3"] This is an update to a previous review; Roland proactively contacted me based on my previous feedback (quoted as originally written below) and has done a great job of making things right and standing behind their product. Roland Technical Support was prompt and professional in exchanging the defective unit we had received initially for a replacement unit; in addition to the manufacturer's own burn-in and testing period, we've used the replacement switcher on some fairly hot days outside and the it has been stable. The surface of the switcher still gets noticeably warm, but no further crashes or instability have been reported from the field, and it does a great job of being a simple yet powerful little switcher. It's not without a few quirks and default settings that should always be checked - most notably, the sleep timer that isn't disabled by default - but it's a great value and for simple jobs, nice and easy to just setup and go compared to anything else in this price range. ORIGINAL REVIEW FROM 4/10/17, which this review replaced: Except for the fact that it has repeatedly overheated, in the middle of a show, dropping all inputs and outputs until it is manually power-cycled, it's a *fantastic* piece of gear. Until Roland comes up with a solution / better thermal design in hardware, it's probably best to stick with the older, more stable V-1HD and spend the money you'll save on a few SDI/HDMI converters....

[4] Still working on a second order to get all the needed cables/accessories to fully use the Roland V-1SDI with my cameras but wanted to preemptively put a review on B&H.

I bought a refurbished V-1SDI through B&H while they were also on the Deal Zone. Ended up saving close to $1000 on my unit by shopping here. For a small business that is just starting to invest in mobile broadcasting, this incredible deal is helping my bottom line.

Will update this review as I get more hands on experience, till then kudos to B&H!

[48 kHz / 16-Bit] It's expensive. But the balanced XLR inputs, stereo RCA in, aux in, balanced TRS outs and thorough iPad control are worth the extra expense. Layout is intuitive, metal box is sturdy as are the connectors. EQ/compressor/limiter on each channel and on master out. Brightness/contrast on all ins. Also saturation, color and zoom on input 4 scaler. PiP, split screen, etc. at touch of a button. After using Roland V-1HD+ I would not be happy with the more popular, cheaper competition. I don't know why B&H pics don't include screenshots of the iPad app. That's the best feature of this product. You can see them here - https://proav.roland.com/global/products/v-1hd_plus_remote/
