However, the way this adapter works is that you slide the foot into a cold or hot shoe and then use the included hex wrench to tighten the top screw, thereby securing the adapter in place so that it doesn't twist or jiggle. It would be less secure if simply connected to a male 1/4 inch thread on the bottom.

[Raven Black] I own the Panasonic S5IIX mounted in a SmallRig cage with a Kondor Blue top handle (KOKBPBSSDBK). You can't attach the DMWXLR1 (XLR Audio adapter) because it sits too high plus it blocks the Nato rail where the top handle attaches. This small, simple device solves that problem. You will have to remove the cable holder underneath the bottom of the XLR adapter (no big loss). The description says something about a cold shoe mount. This is inaccurate. This extension is a Nato clamp to Nato rail plus the top Nato Rail has an Arri Anti Twist 3/8 screw hole that can be used to attach a top handle with an Arri screw in mount like the ones that are common to Smallrig (SM2165C) . 5

[Raven Black] No really, you can convert a slow mounting ARRI Rosette to a fast mounting NATO clamp. Thats the best thing to mount a side grip. Really! 5

[0.145 lb] I use this on my FX3 for my monitors. My have the KB extension handle, so this slides right onto it. All of my external monitors have cages on them, therefore having NATO rail design, so don't have to attach any adaptors. This thing is solid and sturdy - I've used it many run and gun situations, particularly sports and weddings. So sturdy, much better than 1/4 threads as those can counter rotate and loosen over time on during a gig. 5

[Raven Black] It would seem that most of the reviews here are probably for the old design. The new one has set screws in back for retaining the tension. Loosen the two back set screws (tiny ones), then set the side bolts to the appropriate friction, tighten the back set screws and it holds. 5

[0.145 lb] As usual, the folks at SmallRig offer up another strongly built, well-machined doodad for my camera rig (this time for re-positioning my EVF). The locking mechanism is smooth and once engaged, rock solid. 5
