Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do this switch require a Unifi Key?

A: The Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Switch Enterprise 48 48-Port 2.5Gb PoE+ Compliant Managed Network Switch with SFP+, B&H # UBUSWENPR48P, does not require a Unifi Cloud Key but it does require the Unifi controller software running on a computer or a server. The Cloud key is a dedicated "mini-computer" that can run this software.

Q: 2. Do you know if the AV Line M4250-10G2XF-PoE+ (GSM4212PX) will connect to my laptop at 2.5gbps using the SFP+ Port? Thanks!

A: Most laptops do not have SFP+ ports, but if you have a means to connect to the SFP+ port then you will be able to achieve speeds up to 10 gbps.

Q: 3. Is there a rackmount kit for this switch?

A: Unfortunately, we do not have a rack mount kit for the Netgear AV Line M4250 GSM4210PD 8-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed AV Switch with SFP (110W) BH #NEGSM4210PD.

Q: 4. Does this switch come with the parts to rack mount?

A: Yes. Included in the box with this Netgear M4250 12M2XF AV Line Managed Switch , would be Rack-mounting standard brackets Longer brackets for recessed mounting.

Q: 5. Does setting up LAG reduce throughput? Some of the other SFP+ switches in this category use software and CPU to bond the ports.

A: LAG, including static link aggregation and LACP (Link Aggregation Control Protocol), is a technology that can aggregate multiple physical ports into a logical interface, increasing link bandwidth and providing backup ports to enhance connection reliability. So, the LAG will not reduce the TP-Link TL-SX3016F JetStream 16-Port SFP+ 10GE Managed Switch's through put. As for the ports, if you need to configure the advanced features such as LAG and VLAN, this switch has a web interface (standalone mode) to log in. And you can also download TP-Link's Omada Software Controller to manage the switch.

Q: 6. Can this be mounted with the network connections facing the front of the cabinet as opposed to the back?

A: Yes, you could mount the Netgear AV Line M4250 GSM4212PX 8-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed AV Switch with SFP (240W) so that the network ports are facing the front of the cabinet if you'd like, however you will then be putting the LEDs and the USB port on the back side.

Q: 7. Is a controller required or can this be standalone?

A: For best usage and control, I recommend that you purchase a Cloud Key 2.

Q: 8. The picture shows 8 PoE ports and 2 non-PoE ports for a total of 10, but the SPECS tab does not list the 2 non-PoE ports. Which one is correct for GSM4212PX?

A: The two non-PoE ports are additional 1G RJ45 ports which can be used as regular network ports.

Q: 9. Does the single pack comes with a power adapter?

A: Yes, the single units come with USB Type-C Power Adapter & Cable (5V, 1A)

Q: 10. Does the three pack come with the power cable?

A: No, you would need to use the PoE feature to power it or use a separate USB-C cable.

[31.5 dB] I have several of this model in use at client sites, and I'm happy with them. I need VLAN and PoE for many of my sites, and this little beauty fills that need at a reasonable price.

[47.4 W (Max)] I bought this for my unifi cameras. Managing POE power and network priority couldn't be easier with the app.

[47.4 W (Max)] All or our traffice will now traverse through this 10GB highway. This is our network migration to a 10GB backbone. Pretty awesome for a Catholic church.

[1 GB] I have primarily used HPE/Aruba switches for the last 20 years but they are becoming more and more expensive and more difficult to recommend to small clients. I tested out a Netgear M4300 3 years ago and it had all of the features I needed for a much better price.
This is actually the 4th Netgear M4300 model I have purchased and its a great device. It has a large feature set similar to the HPE/Aruba switches I have used before. The web and command-line interface are both fairly intuitive. The manuals are very detailed.

[1 GB] Netgear is my go to for small business networking equipment. The same feature set and quality as the "big guys" but with a simpler GUI interface and more palatable price. This nice little POE switch doesn't disappoint. It has several Netgear Access Points connected to it and with advanced features line VLAN it fits nicely in with my SonicWALL router for a secure network. I'm an IT consultant and I use these products for all my clients. I have yet to be disappointed!

[Internal] Instead of replacing the network switch, simply add this for the higher speeds. If you have an existing switch with 2 SFP+ ports with LACP you can easily just add this to the network not buy an entire switch (which can cause twice the price).

Thankfully the limited L3 includes LACP so my WAP operates at 10Gbps and a 20Gbps connection to my primary switch!

Upon purchase you may get the impression that you're required to use Netgear Insight if you register, but you really do not have to activate Insight & can simply use it locally (no additional fees).
