Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does setting up LAG reduce throughput? Some of the other SFP+ switches in this category use software and CPU to bond the ports.

A: LAG, including static link aggregation and LACP (Link Aggregation Control Protocol), is a technology that can aggregate multiple physical ports into a logical interface, increasing link bandwidth and providing backup ports to enhance connection reliability. So, the LAG will not reduce the TP-Link TL-SX3016F JetStream 16-Port SFP+ 10GE Managed Switch's through put. As for the ports, if you need to configure the advanced features such as LAG and VLAN, this switch has a web interface (standalone mode) to log in. And you can also download TP-Link's Omada Software Controller to manage the switch.

Q: 2. Does this unit support Layer 3 functions such as inter-VLAN routing, static routing?

A: Yes, the Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Switch Enterprise 8 8-Port 2.5Gb PoE+ Compliant Managed Network Switch with SFP+ is a layer 3 switch.

Q: 3. Does it have a warranty from the manufacture or B&H?

A: B&H is not a warranty company. The Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Switch Pro Aggregation 28-Port 10G SFP+ Managed Switch with SFP28 does come with a Limited 1 Year Manufacturer's Warranty.

Q: 4. How's the fan noise? Looking for a 10G switch, but it'll be in a room where noise is a problem.

A: The fan on the Ubiquiti Networks Switch Enterprise XG 24 24-Port 10G Managed Network Switch with 25G SFP28 is very silent.

Q: 5. Do you know if the AV Line M4250-10G2XF-PoE+ (GSM4212PX) will connect to my laptop at 2.5gbps using the SFP+ Port? Thanks!

A: Most laptops do not have SFP+ ports, but if you have a means to connect to the SFP+ port then you will be able to achieve speeds up to 10 gbps.

Q: 6. Is secondary power supply available?

A: No, the Ubiquiti Networks Switch Enterprise XG 24 24-Port 10G Managed Network Switch with 25G SFP28 does not support the option for a secondary internal power supply.

Q: 7. Does this switch come with the parts to rack mount?

A: Yes. Included in the box with this Netgear M4250 12M2XF AV Line Managed Switch , would be Rack-mounting standard brackets Longer brackets for recessed mounting.

Q: 8. Can this be mounted with the network connections facing the front of the cabinet as opposed to the back?

A: Yes, you could mount the Netgear AV Line M4250 GSM4212PX 8-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed AV Switch with SFP (240W) so that the network ports are facing the front of the cabinet if you'd like, however you will then be putting the LEDs and the USB port on the back side.

Q: 9. What is the difference between the us-16-xg and the es-16-xg? I've read that the hardware is the same, just different software (unifi controller?)? If that is case and I'm running a UDM Pro, the software is already there, right? Which in that case, this switch would be the better bang for buck of the ES model?

A: The ES model is the EdgeSwitch, which does not come with Unifi software built in.

Q: 10. Can anyone tell me if this is universal voltage or is it 120 only?

A: The Netgear AV Line M4250 GSM4212UX 8-Port Gigabit PoE++ Compliant Managed AV Switch with SFP+ (720W) is multi-voltage (100-240V, 50-60 Hz).

[357 Mpps] All or our traffice will now traverse through this 10GB highway. This is our network migration to a 10GB backbone. Pretty awesome for a Catholic church.

[32 MB] Bought to aggregate between 10G and 1G switches. Used with the correct UniFi modules (DAC and SFP+ modules) the switch just works. I have not had to touch any of the negotiated speeds between 10G and 1G UniFi switches.

[Yes 1 RU] This is one of very few fanless 10G switches, for barely more than a 1G switch. Seems to work fine so far. If you don't already have a running 10G network to connect it to, you will need to use a 1000Base-T SFP to connect it to your existing infrastructure so you can set it up, in my case to manually set the speed of the uplink to a SFP (not SFP+) switch down to 1G otherwise it would not negotiate.

[Fan] The QNAP does extremely well using auto negotiation on my mixed network. All 10 Gb network cards (OWCPCIE10Gb) from B&H run at rated speeds. Direct 10 Gb transfers between (2) computers with NVMe drives averages slightly over 1 GigaByte/s. Primarily purchased for large backup image and rendered file transfers between multiple computers and a backup server using CAT6a (10'-30') and CAT8 (95'-120') cables. No dropouts during multiple transfers taking place. Plays well with the 2.5 Gb cards and (1) ancient Intel 1.0 Gb card still in the network as well. Also will support up to (8) VLANs, link aggregation and Spanning Tree Protocol.

Management is web based, straightforward and easy to set up or change using either the MGMT RJ45 port or web browser connected via the RJ45 or SFP+ ports. Used an SFP+ module to test all SFP+ ports. All port properly negotiate to NIC rated speeds.

Switch is quiet even though the twin fans spin at 4k+ RPM. (3) fan curve options in setup. The front and top surfaces stay between 89° to 94°F (pyrometer checked). SFP+ module tops out at 95°F on the exposed faces under load. Rated maximum power is 48.6 watts. Internal DC power supply with a 120V AC cord instead of a clumsy 4+ amp power brick.

Have a few more 10Gb cards to purchase yet. Only had it for a few weeks, but it's certainly been doing the job. About the same price as a Netgear 10 port 10Gb managed switch, 4 ports of which are only 2.5Gb. Only about $50 more than a Buffalo 8 port 10 Gb unmanaged switch.

A switch that you can grow into instead of out of for a SOHO network. It's a keeper fer shur.

[9000 Bytes] I have primarily used HPE/Aruba switches for the last 20 years but they are becoming more and more expensive and more difficult to recommend to small clients. I tested out a Netgear M4300 3 years ago and it had all of the features I needed for a much better price.
This is actually the 4th Netgear M4300 model I have purchased and its a great device. It has a large feature set similar to the HPE/Aruba switches I have used before. The web and command-line interface are both fairly intuitive. The manuals are very detailed.

[37.0 dB] It works great. Bear in mind that while you can use 10GBASE-T copper adapters, the switch can only handle up to 4 of them due to power and heat. Same with DAC cables. You can mix and match DAC and 10GBASE-T up to 4 total. Ports support 802.3ad/LAG/LACP so you can aggregate uplinks from the older G1 Unifi switches as well.

All in all, it does what it says, it's passively cooled and pairs well with a Dream Machine Pro/SE.
