[Black] I've had problems in the past with f/1.4 lenses having accurate and consistent focusing. This lens has proven to be razor sharp and extremely consistent in grabbing accurate focus. I use this lens not only as a 28mm, but also as my replacement for a 35mm and even a 50mm. I realize the E lenses are named for their electronic shutters, but Nikon has really improved the optical formulas as well. My 70-200mm f/2.8 and 105 f/1.4 E lenses both exhibit the same characteristics. Not scientific I know, but to me all three of these lenses are exceptional. 5
