Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens compatible with a D5000 Camera?

A: Yes it is, any AF-S DX lens is compatible with a D5000

Q: 2. If a fellow photographer was shooting next to, taking great care of mount lenses/cleaning his equipment and asked you if he could try your lens out on his camera for a few seconds standing next to you-would you be a good sport or tell him no?

A: Actually, I do this quite often. If I am somewhere shooting and there are other Nikon shooters there, once I have gotten quite a few shots and am ready for a short break I will offer to put someones body on the lens and let them get a few shots in with the lens. They aren't taking the lens anywhere or moving the tripod around(other than shifting aim) so what the heck. I enjoy their shots and am glad to help a fellow shooter out. Just don't expect me to do this when there are shots to be had as I will be getting them.

Q: 3. Is this the imported version or the american version?

A: In situations where B&H offers both a USA and an imported version of a product, we label each version clearly and explicitly. If a product does not have an indication either way, it is understood to be by default a USA product. In situations where only a USA version is offered it will not be labeled USA.

Q: 4. I guess my question is very hard to answer( keep the 500mm or purchase the 600mm if price did not matter) Lets talk about birding @ 500ft or so, now both lenses provide quality images but as owners personal point of view would you stay with the lighter 500mm tripod mounted or move up to the heavier 600mm also tripod mounted? Do you feel that in your opinion the 500mm has an edge over the 600mm or not?

A: As I had said in a previous answer: I feel no need to buy to 600. It is very heavy, eliminating any possibility of hand-held shots. I get good IQ with the 500 with 1.4x and 1.7x teleconverters. The cost of the 600 would be very extravagant when added to the cost of the 500.I went through this process in December of last year, I chose the 500 over the 600.

Q: 5. Can you any lens in Pakistan?

A: While I do not understand the above inquiry the way it is typed/phrased, if you are asking if the Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED Lens, unfortunately, no, the lens cannot be shipped internationally to Pakistan. Nikon items may only be shipped within the United States or purchased in our NYC Superstore. For an option that may be shipped internationally, I would instead recommend the Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF, B&H # TA70300MNAF, for your needs.

Q: 6. Compatible with Nikon D5500 camera?

A: It works great on mine

Q: 7. If I have never used this large of a lens is it very difficult to learn?

A: I shoot wildlife with this lens and it is tack sharp. That being said, you have to learn and use long lens technique . With any lens of this focal length you need a good heavy tripod to reduce shake. Use a higher shutter speed to help freeze the image and reduce the effect of shake. I will often use a release so that I can frame the photo and then get my hands off of the camera/lens and wait for it to settle down before firing. If the subject is moving this isn't possible so keep that shutter speed up. If you are in high winds try to get beside something so it acts as a wind break for you. The best head for a lens this size is a gimbal type head such as the Wimberly and a Arca Swiss style foot on the lens such as Really Right Stuff. Set up like this it is so perfectly balanced you move it around with one finger and it stays put when you stop moving it. To get this to where the critters are I use a Lowepro backpack designed for up to the 600/4 and a body. Tripod on the side of the bag and a large rear pocket for flash, remote cord, and bracket to put the flash over the lens attached to the gimbal mount not the camera. That way you can rotate from vertical to horizontal and back with out moving the flash.Turn the power on the flash down and use it to just barely kiss the subject and bring out color and detail. I use flash mainly on birds or small animals. I shoot with the D810 but if I need more reach I can mount my D300 as it is a dx sensor with a 1.5x crop factor and I get an effective 900mm with it and still maintain the f4 wide open.

Q: 8. Does it come with Nikon USA 5 year warranty? Does it include drop/spill?Compatible with D80?

A: Yes, this lens comes with the one year limited Nikon warranty as well as the four year Nikon USA warranty extension, and will be compatible with the Nikon D80. The warranty does not offer protection against drops and spills, however, you have the option to purchase additional drops and spills coverage through a third party company called Square Trade. More information regarding the coverage, terms and conditions of the Square Trade protection plans can be found at the following link: http://bhpho.to/1fMHaTB

Q: 9. Hi, Is this lens still being manufactured or has Nikon dropped it?

A: A high quality lens like this can be hard to find. You may find one in the used lens department.

Q: 10. Is this lens compatible with my Nikon D5200?

A: yes absolutely works fine.have no problem with it.works quite well with the d7000 and d5100.Patrick

I've been looking for something that's an improvement on standard leg wraps, this is MUCH better IMO. Also FT!

First thing I did when I bought my lens was buy LensCoat covers for it. Easy to put on, protection for the investment, worth every penny.

Bought this for my heavy duty Gitzo 4 series tripod. I use it with a Canon 600mm and it makes it very easy and comfy to carry the tripod with the lens/camera on it from location to location.

Works as intended -- I don't carry a super heavy rig (Gitzo Series 2, Canon 5D Mark IV with battery grip, Canon 100-400 mm II zoom) but this pad does the job and even fits my smaller tripod legs (recommended for Gitzo Series 3,4,5) without coming off. Won't use it often but is great when you need it.

This is the best fitting Lens Coat lens cover I've had, and I'm now on my third 400mm f/2.8. Last one I used this on was as spotless, clean and ding-free as the day I purchased it. Others' milage may vary since much depends upon how a person treats their photo gear. Small cost to add an additional insurance policy for when the lens is in use. Easy to put on and stays where its placed.

Nice product. Installation much easier with foot removed. When replacing original foot install lenscoat before installing 3rd party foot.
