Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this provide an anti-twist feature?

A: Yes, the Leofoto LPN-Z30 Custom L-Bracket for Nikon Z30, B&H # LELPNZ30, has an anti-rotation lip. The plate is precisely contoured for a perfect fit that prevents twisting between the camera and plate.

Q: 2. does this eyecup can also be fold back, so that the rubber piece does not protrude, and stay close to the viewfinder?

A: Yes, the Japan Hobby Tool JHTDK-33 Camera Eyecup for Nikon Z9, Z8 & Zf Models, BH #JAJHTDK33 can fold back and stay close to the viewfinder.

Q: 3. Does the vertical part of the RRS l bracket allow mounting of the Nikon MC 36 remote in the 10 pin socket?

A: Being that the 10 Pin remote socket on Z9 is seated in front of the vertical portion of this RRS Modular L-Plate Set, you would still have access to the port in order to use a Nikon MC-36 remote.

Q: 4. Will this also work with the z6 II and z7 II, with the mbn11 grip accessory?

A: No, it only fits the Nikon Z9. Its physically designed to fit the shape of the Z9.

Q: 5. Why do I need a base plate for my Z9?

A: The Really Right Stuff Base Plate for Nikon Z9 would allow to mount the Nikon Z9 Mirrorless Camera (B&H # NIZ9) directly on a compatible Arca-Type tripod.

Q: 6. Does it fit Z6II? How heavy is it?

A: Yes, it fits on the Z6II and the Z7II. According to the manufacturer, it weights 220 grams.

Q: 7. Will this also fit the Nikon Z8 w/o blocking the battery door?

A: No, the Kirk Camera Plate for Nikon Z9 Mirrorless Camera would not be a good fit for the Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera, as it is designed for the Z9. A better option would be the Kirk Base Plate for Nikon Z8, BH #KIPZ189 (https://bhpho.to/3tEe3Ty).

Q: 8. Is this the original version of the Kirk L Bracket, or is it the V2 that they've released with better access to the AF button?

A: No, this is the original version. The Kirk L-Bracket for Nikon Z9 V2, BH # KIBLZ9V2 is also available. http://bit.ly/3EvhezH

Q: 9. Can the cup be rotated for left-eye shooting?

A: Yes, the Hoodman HoodEYE Eyecup for Nikon Z8 and Z9 Models can be rotated for left-eye shooting.

Q: 10. Does monitor fully articulate without removing L-component from base plate?

A: According to the manufacturer, when using the Really Right Stuff Modular L-Plate Set for Nikon Z9, if you were to unscrew and move the L component away from the camera, then the screen would be able to go out and angle itself. However, there is not a hole in the L component that most of their modular plates have. This means you would not be able to lay the LCD screen completely horizontal.

[Yes] Have used the sunway brand of L brackets on all my cameras, they are reasonably priced and they work.

[Yes] I was suspect on the low price but was pleasantly surprised with the quality. Solid with no flexing and easy access to the battery. The camera strap eye is easily accessible.

[Aluminum] First bought a Kirk Camera plate for the Z9 since at the time I was not planning on much vertical shooting. Doing more panos led me to look at L-plate options. Kirk would not sell me the side part that attached to their camera plate to make the full l-bracket, and I was not going to pay $249 for Kirks full l-bracket (RRS overcharges also). Finally decided on the Sunwayfoto bracket and I'm not disappointed. It fits snuggly on the z9 and allows complete access to all buttons and cable ports. I only wish it had the QD socket that I love on the Kirk plate. One minor criticism is one of the two bottom mounting screws mount proud and causes the camera to be slightly unstable when placed on a surface. There also appears to be a little play (takes a good tug to see it) when the bracket is mounted vertically, although I have not noticed any issues with quality of images.

[Arca-Type] Simple, reasonably-priced L-Bracket for the Z9 and with plenty of room for adjustments.

[Yes] I found the original version of this to be perfectly usable and excellent for the price, back when the Z9 first came out. I just bought another of these L-brackets, based on that experience. I was surprised to discover that there is a new version, and it is better. First, for those who didn't like the original because of the tight fit with the strap lug, the new version has more clearance. Both versions offer the option of sliding the whole unit left, creating nearly an inch of clearance, but doing so does mean that the L is not quite centered in one axis. The new version also includes a handy magnetized way to store the hex key, which seems quite effective. A nice touch. The bottom foot now also has a nice kind of lining not seen in the product pictures. Presumably it is less likely to scratch the camera body. I've never had any L-bracket do that to any of my cameras in the past 30 years, but this one is even less likely to do so. The bracket itself is also very slightly beefier, not that it was a problem to begin with. There is absolutely no issue using the left-side ports with the camera mounted on the bracket.

All in all, several minor improvements over an already good product. The revised version gets a full five stars.

NB: I have used RRS and Kirk L-brackets for most of my career, but there's no reason whatsoever to spend more than this Leofoto.

[Arca-Type] Clean, simple, well made, perfect fit and weighs substantially less than the offering of their closest competitor (I own that one too). Kirk products have the best finishing and anodizing of any company. There are no sharp edges or burrs. Some folks have expressed disappointment that the vertical dovetail restricts access to the AF mode button, but I don't find this to be a deal breaker. I usually change AF mode via the i-Menu and besides, Kirk has a newer version V2 which allow more access if you prefer. I like how they eliminated the cross bar from the vertical dovetail to allow better access to the accessory ports on the Z9. Well done, Kirk!

[Arca-Type] I do mostly people photography and often get irritated repositioning my camera on the tripod for vertical shots. The sheer bulk of my Nikon Z9 makes this more of an issue, so after researching, I now own the Sunwayfoto L-Bracket and I LOVE IT.
It fits the camera like a perfectly and the contoured base prevents twist that could occur with a flat base. The setscrew aligns perfectly with the opening on the bottom of the Z9, further eliminating possible misalignment.
The contour of the device allows access to the battery compartment, buttons and camera openings, although I may need something to help opening the weather seal over the HDMI or other ports.
I have only used it once, so I am anxious to see how it works when I shoot tomorrow. I expect the horizontal to vertical switch to be a snap.
One other thing. I changed out the heads on my Manfrotto tripods to standardize all to the Arca-type connection which is integral to this bracket, but that's another review.
