Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I want to verify that this lens is compatible with my canon 5D Mark III

A: The Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 lens is only compatible with the APS-C size sensor Canon DSLRs released since 2003. It is not compatible with Canon full frame cameras such as the 5D III. The Canon full frame cameras are only compatible with the EF lenses.

Q: 2. Is this compatible with a 1DC?

A: This lens is not compatible with the Canon EOS 1DC.

Q: 3. I'm wanting a lens for my granddaughter's wedding and other future events is this the lens for my Canon 80d?

A: Yes, works with my 80d. I love the lens!

Q: 4. Is this lens compatible with a Canon 70D?

A: Yes. It has become my go to utility lens.

Q: 5. Will this lens work on a Sony A7sii with a fotodiox adapter? If so, will the image quality suffer because the Canon 17 - 55 is designed for APS-C sensors? I'm more concerned with image quality than auto focusing performance.

A: You would need to shoot in the APS-C/crop size senor mode when using this lens on the a7S II as this lens does not have an image circle large enough to cover a full frame sensor. This will cut down significantly on the resolution of the files you will get from the camera.

Q: 6. Would this lens work with a Canon EOS Rebel XTi?

A: It works perfectly with XTi - I used to have it and liked much better even than Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L. In my opinion EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 is the best Canon zoom lens for the cropped bodies. Enjoy!

Q: 7. Is this compatable with Canon 60D?

A: Yes, the Canon EF-S 17-55mm lens is compatible with the Canon 60D.

Q: 8. Water resistant

A: As far as we are aware, this lens has no weather-sealing.

Q: 9. does this have a lock?

A: No, it doesn't.

Q: 10. Is this lens good for high school basketball

A: If it is your only lens, you'll find it too short overall, BUT this focal length pairs nicely with a 70-200mm lens for wider angle images under the basket.

[Canon White] I bought the lens to get a pro optics, versatile lens to take on a hiking trip to Montana with family. The lens is solid, easy to manual focus, allows low light shots as well as extended f stops using image stabilization. The only downside is a bit of size and heavy weight which I quickly became comfortable with. Using the lens hood the lens sticks out quite a bit but it was worth it for the color, sharpness and versatility. I did extensive research against all other Canon lens before buying this one

[Canon White] Don't let the lack of an L designation fool you. The lens might not be water tight but it is sharp as a tack and super fast. The lens is being used on the 7D, between the two, they can almost see in the dark. The images are sharp at f/2.8 and barely change by f/5.6. The bokeh is excellent. The lens sits on the 7D 90% of the time and the focal range covers the meat and potatoes of shooting. The IS works and you can shoot at 1/15 without issue. I believe Canon will not give EF-S lenses an L designation for marketing/money making reasons. Canon wants to sell Mark 1's at a much higher price than 7D's and by restricting L they can control the market to some degree. This is a professional quality lens that can get any professional job or personal project done with excellence.

[Canon White] PROS - You can not ask for a better lens in its class. The IQ is amazing throughout all f stops , and 100% crops are very impressive. The auto focus is fast, and reliable every time. you get perfect circle bokeh witch is very dreamy. CONS - Very upsetting to spend so much money on a non L series lens. You don't even get a Lens Case or lens hood, theirs another $75! but all in all. you can not get a better lens for your crop sensor body. If your double triple thinking yourself as to if you should get this lens. take my advice.... You will not regret your purchase

[Canon White] I primarily use this lens in low light/street photography settings so the f2.8 is really something that I need. I'm very happy with the sharpness, color saturation/representation and the focusing speed of this lens. Yes, it is a bit pricy - but it is also quite a valuable addition to my kit.
