With its compact build and 1.6 ounce weight, the M1 Pro allows you to step up to better audio than your in-camera mic is capable of producing without adding a lot of heavy bulk to your rig.

Whereas most built-in camera microphones pick up sound from all directions, this microphone utilizes a supercardioid polar pattern that narrowly focuses audio capture directly in front of the mic while attenuating sound entering from the sides and rear.

The 3.5mm input jack lets you plug in a second audio source, such as a lavalier microphone, and record both sources to your camera or smartphone at the same time on separate audio channels—making it easy to adjust in post.

A coiled 3.5mm TRS cable is supplied for fast hookup to your camera. A coiled 3.5mm TRRS cable for use with your smartphone is also supplied.

No batteries are required to operate the M1 Pro. Just connect the microphone to your camera or recorder, enable plug-in power on the device, and forget about swapping or charging batteries.

A rugged suspension-style shockmount is included that inhibits the transfer of vibrations and features a cold shoe mount for quick and easy attachment to your camera.

The M1 Pro includes a foam windshield to minimize air noise during indoor shoots and a furry windscreen for outdoor use.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this mic work with Leica q2 ? How to setup it ? Thanks

A: No, the Sennheiser MKE 440 Compact Stereo Shotgun Microphone is not compatible for use with the Leica Q2 Digital Camera. The Q2 does not have an input connection for an external microphone.

Q: 2. Does this product come with a deadcat

A: The Andycine M1 comes with a Foam Windscreen and a Furry Windscreen.

Q: 3. Is the Sennheiser MKE 440 Stereo Shotgun compatible with JVC's ProHD GY HMZ camcorder line?

A: Yes. This mic will connect to the stereo 3.5mm input of the camcorder.

Q: 4. I saw a user photo on the Canon C70 listing with this microphone attached. Will it work on the C70?

A: Yes, the Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera has the necessary phantom-powered Mini XLR microphone inputs to work with the Azden SGM-250MX Mini-XLR Shotgun Microphone with Windshield Kit for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema (Shockmount, Phantom Only).

Q: 5. What is the lowest profile / minimal shoe mount that will work with this mic? I want to attach it to the FX3 for Vlog'ing and want something small.

A: A mount such as BH #ROSM3R Rode SM3-R Camera Shoe Shockmount is a quality option that marries the desired characteristics of low profile, built-in shoe adapter, and shock absorption for use with the Sanken CS-M1 Moisture-Resistant Ultracompact Shotgun Microphone: https://bhpho.to/3K2vXlW

Q: 6. Is there a way to convert this 1/8 stereo plug to (2) XLR plugs to run into a Zoom f3?

A: BH #AL130 can be used to adapt the Sennheiser MKE 440's output to dual XLR.

Q: 7. can the MKE 440 be used to improve recording input quality of a smart phone recorder?

A: Since stereo microphones are not supported by smartphones via their headphone jacks, this mic would not be recommended. There are several mics designed specifically for smartphone use. https://bhpho.to/2hSzRRK

Q: 8. can I record sound only, by connecting the MKE 440 to my iPhone?

A: Since the iPhone and similar smartphones only support a single channel (mono) mic input, using a stereo mic connected to the headset jack is not recommended and will not operate correctly. In addition an adapter is required for compatibility. Standard mics are not able to be directly connected. A solution would be a mono mic such as the Sennheiser MKE 400 along with the Rode SC4 adapter for connection. There are also several mics designed for smartphone use such as the Rode VideoMic Me.

Q: 9. I'm very fond of Sanken mics personally. Thus I wanted to ask how is the reach on this mic. Is there anything you guys could tell in that regards? I know it's not a shotgun mic, however it's Super Card.

A: It very similar to most of other shotgun mics (and it's a shotgun mic). Not as directional as Sennheiser 416, so I wouldn't recommend if you need to capture sounds outdoors very far away.

Q: 10. Messrs, is the Sennheiser MKE 440 Compact compatible with the Sony FDR-AX33 4K Ultra HD Handycam Camcorder?

A: It is possible to venture outside of the Sony microphone lineup provided you use a couple of adapters; #SOVCTCSM1 and # VECS20.

[Supercardioid] Using a Canon C100 MkII for travel and hand held video. The built-in mic works well, but wanted something with more stereo separation. The MKE 440 with the fur windscreen works very well. Stereo separation is surprisingly good, and the pickup pattern is effective at suppressing out of picture sound. The fur windscreen and LF rolloff filter are quite effective at suppressing wind noise. The mic is very sensitive, so it picks up mechanical focus noise from some of the L Series lenses, but not from an 18-135 f?3.5-5.6 STM. Turns out this little lens is as sharp as the L Series 24-105 f/4.0 except at the outermost edges of the image in FHD that this camera produces. The MKE 440 is very well made with high quality materials. Very happy with it.

[End Address] Can’t beat it for the price. It sounds good, it’s built well, compact, and comes with everything. No idea how much abuse it could take, ... but it’s so cheap you should grab 2 or 3 to easily replace and keep it going.

[Supercardioid] I film often near a busy interstate, and my current stereo mic; the Azden SMX-30 picks up too much of that noise. The directional stereo helped reduce that noise by isolating my stereo to noises in front of my camera.

I also think the stereo sounds a bit better here than with the Azden mic, although the pure shotgun mic of the Azden isolates noise better at the cost of stereo.

The dead cat for the MKE 440 is just ok. I was still getting wind noise even with moderate wind. The dead cat for the Azden works much better. This might have more to do with the mic design of the MKE 440 than with the dead cat for it. Either way, wind reduction is much better on the Azden SMX-30.

[Black] As a doc filmmaker, I'm always looking to keep a low profile and small footprint. This mic is tiny, but captures excellent audio !!

[Plug-In Power] I researched for weeks looking for a small diaphragm condenser that would work well indoors as well as outdoors. Our primary use is for indoor dialogue (interviews, etc.). Wound up renting this Sanken mic for a day to test it out and immediately loved it. Bought it that day. The room we do most of our recordings in has some sound treatment and is fairly dead acoustically. The CS-M1 has a beautiful off-axis roll-off and tone and sounds very natural. Very little EQ needs to be done for our purposes. Has a little more top-end presence and no heavy bottom end. Great RF rejection and reportedly works well in high humidity settings. Super small and light. Very little handling noise. I love the supercardioid pattern which is perfect for our needs. Super quiet mic. Sounds beautiful. I will definitely be buying a second one when I get the $. No regrets.

[Supercardioid] I have been trying for a long time to find a good on-camera mic that suits my needs. This one is excellent. Most of what I do is filming live music. That means I need a good sounding mic, in this case stereo, with a high SPL level that allows for the loud impact of drums without distortion. This, with the mic level on the MKE 440 set to its lowest setting works great. I did have to buy an adapter cable (about $11), since my camera only has XLR inputs, but that was a very small added expense. The mic uses two AAA batteries, and has a very long life before requiring new ones. The mic attaches very securely via the cold shoe mount. I havent had occasion to use the fur windshield, but I can say that it fits very securely over the microphones.

[Supercardioid] This thing is so cute, and incredibly useful. I bought it as an on-camera mic for the Canon R5C, running into the Tascam CA-XLR2d preamp. It works great for that, on camera.

But recently, I’ve been taking it off the camera, with a longer XLR, and using it as a narration mic for recording myself in various locations around the studio for YouTube videos. It’s on a tiny little tripod, and the whole thing is so small and lightweight you can stick it anywhere without hassle.

It sounds “present” and “live” without any low-end mud whatsoever, and really comes alive when you get the room placement right. Especially be sure to take off that included foam windscreen when in a controlled studio environment for much more detailed top end.

[Supercardioid] I feel stupid for not having this mic much sooner. It sounds fantastic. Really full, clear and balanced. The overall rejection is amazing, you can shoot in a room with a busy street outside or construction and not hear it at all. Extremely happy and impressed.

I initially bought it because I want a shorter mic for my on camera shotgun; but now using this as our main microphone period.

[Mono] I echo everything that Patrik said about this mic. I have used many shotgun and cardioid mics over the past 20 years for all the work I’ve done as a sound mixer. Having transitioned into the documentary filmmaking realm, this is now my go to mic for not only boom pole use, but especially for on-camera use. The size and weight are perfect, and the sound quality is excellent. At this point, I can’t imagine using anything else.

[Supercardioid] This microphone is amazing and was a huge upgrade from what I had. I am using it to record our high school marching band and the recordings are so accurate and detailed, it’s near perfect. I record on top of press boxes in the open air most of the time where I have to deal with wind and, with the wind muff, it does a great job even without turning on the wind reduction. If there was one thing I wish it did better, it would be in the reproduction of the lower frequencies but that’s getting really picky.

I am using it on a Sony ZV-E10.
