Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have just hooked on a 50mm EF 1:1.4 lens to the bellows and will not come off. Is there a special way to take the lens of?

A: The small metal button should be pushed towards the bellows and the camera, not towards the center of the circle.

Q: 2. What other parts do I need to use the bellows on my Nikon D5300 camera?

A: The FotodioX Macro Bellows for Nikon F Mount Camera Systems, B&H # FOMBNFMCS, would connect directly to the Nikon D5300 DSLR camera, and the lens would connect directly to the front of the bellows. The only other item you would need would be a tripod to mount the setup on the tripod for usage. Do note that you will have to use the camera in full manual mode when using the bellows system on your camera.

Q: 3. The person who left a review for this product said he could not connect his 105mm macro, what is the reason for this ?

A: This is old school macro. I would not use this with a macro (micro in Nikon terms) lens. It is intended to be used with a fixed focus standard lens such as 50mm for example. Nikon used to make these before they started making dedicated micro lenses. The bellows allows for the standard lens to be run further out from the film (sic) plane and thus magnify the image. All coupling to the body will be lost thus electronic diaphragms are disconnected. All lenses that precede the G series should be OK because you can manually set the aperture. I suspect setting exposure entails some Kentucky windage along with trial and error. G series lenses would have to be set based on a wide open aperture and just live with the reduced depth of field.

Q: 4. Can these bellows be mounted to a tripod head?

A: Yes the FotodioX Macro Bellows has a standard 1/4-20 tripod socket for mounting on a tripod.

Q: 5. How will the Macro-Bellows work with an old Nikkor 28mm and my Nikon D7200?

A: For best results you should use 45-60mm lens , 28mm you might vignette

Q: 6. Is this compatible with the pentax K1

A: As the K1 has the standard Pentax K-Mount, it should be compatible. It will, however, only work in Manual mode.

Q: 7. Is there any provision for setting the f/stop if this is used with current lenses without f/stop ring?

A: Unfortunately, a Pentax K mount lens would need to have an aperture ring in order to use the Fotodiox Macro Bellows properly.

Q: 8. I am hoping to attach my 1 Nikkor 10 - 30 lens to the macro bellows; is there an adapter for that lens that fits?

A: The FotodioX Macro Bellows for Nikon F will connect Nikon F mount for full frame, and APSC sensor DSLR cameras. Unfortunately, there are no adapters to connect your 1 NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 PD-ZOOM to and F mount camera body.

Q: 9. Can I use the z mount 105 micro lens with this bellows?

A: Yes, you can use the FotodioX Macro Bellows for Nikon Z with the Nikon NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S.

Q: 10. camera won't recognize lens?

A: It might be you need to set the camera to take a photo without a lens in the menu. With many cameras you need to do that in order to use adapters like this bellows.

[1.06 lb] Works better than I thought it would for the price. I am using it for insects and flowers and it is amazing!

[Aluminum] For the price it is an excellent way for beginners and people on a budget to get into macro photography.

[Black] Works very well with Fuji X mount. The construction is a mixed bag of very cheap plastic knobs, decent bellows material and good quality metal rails. Be very gentle with it and it will last long. i bought two thanks to B&H for their support and vast catalogue.

[Black] A lot of bang for the buck. It will not work with the lenses from DSLR camera systems unless they have an ability that allows you to manually adjust aperture, otherwise with a regular SLR lens, they work well . Best results are with a 45 to 60mm focal length lens, or longer. At about 50mm focal length, you are focusing at about an inch from the lens, as the image reflects. With the bellows retracted a bit, the third image was the result. With a 135mm focal length lens, you are focusing at about 5 to 6 inches with bellows at full extension with a field of view of about 1?? inches to 2 inches. As with all Close up schemas, you lose depth of field, but if you shoot coins, rings/ jewelry, or smale scale models, this is a perfect combination. Once set up, it is pretty much a WYSIWYG with an ISO of 125 or 100. Since the camera is unable to hold the iris open while you are composing, if you stop the lens down after composing, then you can adjust your ISO accordingly to improve depth of field, but you will need to resort to a tripod. The only down side is the measuring scale is that it is glued on rather than etched in the rail. A minor detail unless you require compious complete notes to save time on reproducing results as you are more likely to be advancing or reversing the bellows with the left hand knob rather than analyzing a measuring scale. If the right knob set screw is allowed to drag slightly on the rail, you right hand to operate the camer and the bellows will hold position. If you take this into the field, it is not indestructable, however if the camera and bellows are mounted to a rail and the rail then mounted to a tripod, you should do okay if you are careful and mindful of the physics of levers. Also decent lighting of the subject is essential. Relying on the light you can constantly throw on the stage will give you the most predictable results without undue shadows or nasty surprises.

[1.06 lb] It works as intended without any problems. Others have commented on lenses fitting too tightly, or the bellows fitting the camera lens mount too tightly, but I have no issues with mine. It does what it's supposed to do.

[Aluminum] I am coming from large format film (4x5) and so a bellows is a sensible accessory for me. I was unsure of what to expect for quality, given the price, but I am impressed. I wish I could get tilts and shifts for this price, but the extensions are worth it to me. I already had a slider for stereophotography, which makes fine adjustments easier. I am glad that I was to get this versatile accessory for my first DSLR.

[1.06 lb] I use this Bellows with a 50mmm nikon Manual lens. i fell that it is a great value for the money. Especially with the added diopters package from vivator. i also own a 40mm macro and a 85mm macro. They are good in the field but I still love the bellows for home studio use.

[Aluminum] Had an older bellows that we used with our F2 for extreme close-up work but it would not fit our D series camera because the camera hand hold prevented the bellows housing from rotating to engage the mount. This one worked fine and we are again taking very close up macro catalog shots. Just like the older model, this is 100% manual and some lenses just will not work because there in no aperture ring on the lens. Make sure the lens you want to use has a ring for manual use otherwise it will revert to the smallest aperture the lens has available.
