The Tiffen 4x4" 1/8 Coral Graduated Filterhelps to specifically add a warm, pale orange coloration to skies and other bright areas of an image while allowing a portion of the image to remain neutrally colored. The filter's coloring is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged transition between the density and clear areas. The 1/8 color density provides less coral coloration than the 1/4 density filter.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. It measures 4 x 4" / 101.6 x 101.6mm.

Provides a natural-looking warming effect to select areas of the image.

Graduated filter design keeps a portion of the image neutral, resulting in a more realistic look while allowing for the sky or other bright areas to take on the color of the density.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hello,I am looking to use this with my 18-55mm ED II Nikkor lens and I have never used a screw-on GND filter before, so will this attach easily and will it be easy to adjust the GND horizon line? I am reading some reviews that say it's difficult to locate which is top and bottom for this filter...I am looking to use it mainly for sunrise/sunset shots on the coast and in the mountains. Will this be a good choice? The price is what's attractive me the most here...Thank you for your feedback!

A: Attaching the Tiffen 52mm Graduated 0.6 ND Filter is as easy as screwing the filter onto the filter threads on the front of the lens. As the horizon line is built into the filter, it is not adjustable. You would have to frame your image to correspond with the horizon line on the filter. A graduated neutral density filter will have some effect for sunrise/sunset, especially when the sun is higher in the sky. However, when the sun is close to the horizon, a reverse graduated filter is usually recommended to better even out the brightness in the center of the frame from the sun as opposed to a standard graduated filter when the sun is higher in the sky.

Q: 2. I am not certain whether I should use a neutral density or polarizing filter for the photography I do.At present, I shoot a lot of landscape, nature, waterfalls, lakes, ponds and close up I wish to shoot photos that are well contrasted and have that jump off the page type of distinct quality. Well saturated photos, vibrant colors, no wash outs are also my hope and objective. Is this level of neutrality serve my objectives. Should the ND and polarizer be graduated?. If so, why? I own a Nikon D90, 3000 and 7000What do you suggest?

A: I would suggest getting a polarizer for the type of image you want. A circular polarizer will saturate blues and enrich color. A circular polarizer is essentially 3 stops of a ND filter as it is, but it is rotate-able. A neutral density filter is more useful in applications where you would want to blur water or shoot wide open for long exposures. Take a look at the B+W 77mm Kaesemann XS-Pro Circular Polarizer MRC Nano Filter, which is one of the highest quality circular polarizers available: http://bhpho.to/1ke87X9

Q: 3. Does this filter have a rotating filter ring to allow more control over placement of density in the image?

A: Yes it does. Turns easily and is well constructed. Used it successfully in Hawaii taking sunsets. It has a nice soft graduation. I've had good luck with Tiffen filters. Has the quality that I desire and meets my price point. I use my 58mm filters on a Canon GX1. Hope that helps.

Q: 4. Does this filter have any tags or other properties that allow you to align the gradient axis precisely with the camera axis?

A: No, the Tiffen 72mm Graduated Neutral Density Attenuator/Blender 1.2 Filter (4-Stop) does not have tags or any markings indicating the gradient axis.

Q: 5. Does this filter have IR Cut. Have you noticed any IR pollution affecting your image quality?

A: As per the manufacturer, this filter has no IR cut nor IR pollution when using it.

Q: 6. Thank you!I suppose you meant 5mm to 10mm of thikness/height of the ring, right?

A: The thickness of the filter ring is .265 inch

Q: 7. will this screw onto my Canon Rebel T100 with the standard 55mm lens without an adaptor ring or filter holder?

A: The Tiffen 58mm Graduated Neutral Density Attenuator/Blender 1.2 Filter (4-Stop) will mount directly on the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Lens (B&H # CA1855EFS), because of the compatible filter thread size.

Q: 8. Is this a hard edge or a soft edge?

A: soft edge

Q: 9. Tiffen 62mm Graduated 0.6 ND Filter - will it work with the Panasonic Lumix FZ1000?

A: Yes. The Tiffen 62mm Graduated 0.6 ND Filter, will work screwed onto the front of the lens on the Panasonic Lumix FZ1000.

Q: 10. Is there a 1.2 ND model of this filter?

A: Tiffen does not have a four-stop (1.2) Digital HT Filter version of the Tiffen Graduated ND Digital HT Filter in 72mm. The only four-stop (1.2) 72mm circular graduated neutral density filter we carry from Tiffen would be the Tiffen 72mm Graduated Neutral Density Attenuator/Blender 1.2 Filter (4-Stop), B&H # TIABND1.272.

[0.4 lb] I saw a review of this filter and loved it. After having it on my wish list for months I finally decided to give it a try and it is great! I love the colors on it and the look that it gives is subtle and not overbearing. I had better results with it using it on a well lit day versus and overcast day but it looked good both ways. Just better on a well lit day or with lighting nearby what you're shooting.

[Glass] I have been shooting film for over 30 years and can appreciate what these filters were intended for. I know there are ways to use Photoshop for achieving similar results in digital, but Tiffen is famous for supplying high-quality special effect filters for the Film Industry. Great filter to have in your film arsenal as well as digital.
