Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens totaly compatible with nikon D7000? And the autofocus works perfect?

A: I use mine on my D7000 and it works great -- and it is sharp as a tack! For airshows, I use the lens on my D750. With the DX setting, that changes the focal length from 200-500 to 300 to 750mm -- and it the images are awesome -- still sharp and crisp. And I hand-hold the lens most of the time.

Q: 2. How to choose between the Nikon AF-S 200-500 f/5.6 ED VR and the Sigma 150-600?

A: I am probably not the best guy to answer this question for you. But I will tell you that I have bought other brand lenses in the best and have regretted it. I will never buy any other lenses other than Nikkor. I believe in their quality and commitment to excellence in optics and technology. I have never had no issues with their product line and will continue to purchase nothing but Nikon cameras and Nikkor lenses. I believe in Nikon. I am too bias to answer your question fairly, sorry.

Q: 3. I assume the dovetail is compatible with RRS clamps, correct?

A: The Kirk Lens Collar uses the Arca Swiss standard so it is compatible with RRS clamps and tripod heads.

Q: 4. Is this lens compatible with the new D500?

A: Yes, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens is fully compatible for use with the Nikon D500 DSLR camera. Nikon states on their website that the electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism used in this lens is compatible with the following cameras: Nikon D5, D4 series, D3 series, Df, D810, D810A, D800 series, D750, D700, D610, D600, D500, D300 series, D7200, D7100, D7000, D5500, D5300, D5200, D5100, D5000, D3300, D3200, D3100, Nikon 1 J1, J2, J3, J4 with FT-1, Nikon 1 V1, V2, V3 with FT-1, Nikon 1 S1, S2 with FT-1, and newer cameras. Older cameras not on this list are not recommended as the aperture of the lens cannot be controlled by the camera, and as such, only the maximum aperture would be accessible on older cameras.

Q: 5. can the collar be attached to any tripod head?

A: The foot itself is built with arca-swiss dovetails, so it will fit those tripod heads without any other attachments. If you don't have an arca-swiss tripod head, you can attach the head's compatible quick release plate and it should work without issue.

Q: 6. Does the Neoprene cover interfere with the operation of the zoom lens?

A: The neoprene cover does not interfere with the operation of the zoom lens.

Q: 7. How is this collar, Version 3 (NC-200-500V3) different from version 2 (NC-200-500V2) ?

A: Kirk added a QD socket so you could attach a strap to the version 3 Kirk Lens Collar for Nikon AF-S 200-500mm f/5.6 E Lens. They also improved the locking knob. It now has smoother rotation and a more positive lock The inner liner is now made with delrin. .

Q: 8. Is this lens fully compatible with the Nikon D7000?

A: Yes

Q: 9. How do the safety stops work?

A: When used, the safety stops (also known as safety screws) prevent the foot from sliding out of the head accidentally if not correctly tightened. See gimbal heads/ball heads with safety stop grooves on their clamps, such as Wimberley, ProMediaGear, Acra-tech, Really Right Stuff, Kirk, etc.

Q: 10. Is this lens compatible with Nikon 800E?

[0.38 lb] I decided to protect my new lens with a Lenscoat tree pattern cover. Well, if you have strong hands, installation would be easy. Hands with arthritis is another story. I did get it put on lens but it took some time. I left the last piece off as I often use the polarizing filter. All in all it serves a good purpose and looks pretty good out in the Everglades.

[0.38 lb] I'm using this on a Canon 50D with an extended (Canon) battery pack and right hand grip strap. The cover installs and removes easily and offers great scratch and dent protection, (though I don't think it would help allot with a high drop accident).

[0.38 lb] I usually have a lens coat on my super-tele lenses, however I went with this and the XX Large hoodie instead for my new 500mm f4E VR FL. I got tired of the way the lens cost fit on the lens, you either have to remove pieces or deal with it. Lenscoats, especially the new ones cover up too much of the lens, such as function buttons, the five main switches, the drop-in filter holder, the manual focus ring. So I slowly started removing pieces until I had barely any left. So I decided to buy this instead and I really like it, it’s thicker and offers more protection than the regular lens coat. It’s on the lens when the lens is in the bag, either my thinktank Airport Accelerator or long lens bag. It’s easy to remove and put on and it protects the lens from getting banged up or scratched, etc. Once I bring the lens out of the bag and out of this, I put it directly onto my monopod or tripod and I’m careful. So far so good, my lens looks like new almost a year later and I’m no longer messing with the lens coat being in my way. For me this is the best option. Maybe someday they will make lenscoats for actually using your lens, but for now I’ll just use this to protect the lens when it’s not on top of my tripod.

[0.38 lb] It is a little bit tight for my Canon 1Dx, but it will do the trick just fine. I bought it to protect my LCD screen while on safari and traveling. I have seen too many LCD screens get cracked when the safari vehicle goes over a bump that you aren't expecting. These body guards are a great proactive solution.
